Very Reliable, 29 MPG Average, Great Performance!

1998 2.3CL 5-speed Manual. This is my 50 miles per day beater. What a great car! Is 26 years old and still runs like new. Gets an honest 29mpg with approximately 80/20 mix of highway/city. I did change to V6 brakes (11" rotors), a 19mm rear swaybar, urethane sway bushings and Koni struts. Now the braking and cornering are similar to a Honda Prelude, yet has plenty of room in the backseat for passengers. The engine is 138 cubic inches and outputs 150hp! That makes it fast, but not quick since it has a tiny motor and you need torque for quick. The 5-speed 2.3 is bullet-proof. I'd guess this car will go 400k+ miles with basic maintenance. Believe it or not, I change the oil every 12000 miles and by then, the oil is just nearing the add mark! That in itself is simply amazing!

The Perfect Car

This is my second Acura, and I am spoiled. In the four years that I have had the car, the only service has been an oil change. When I see the service problems and little things going wrong that people with GM and Ford and Chrysler cars put up with in the first couple years of ownership, I can only laugh at what they call "value" and reliability.

Bought the 1998 2.3 coupe in Jan 1998 and here in June 2004 I have never, ever spent one single cent on a repair bill. Maintenance yes, like tires, oil, air filter, belts, no hoses yet and it has 95500. Does not leak one drop of oil or burn it either. Gets 31mpg hwy.

I bought my 98 cl, 2.3, 5-speed with 130k four years ago. I did the reccomended top end service, brake pads all around, and a set of tires... Its got 208k on the odometer now and no doubt it will go at least another 200k ! ... Its been a while and zippy the coupe is still hangin tough, pushing 250,000 miles on the odometer its still zippy though its clearcoat is beginning to peel and it burns a little oil now...no doubt this coupe will go 1,000,000 miles

Great Car Great Value

Bought this car new and have had only one problem with it. The passenger-side windows attenuator went bad 2 times. One time it was covered under warranty. The 2nd time it cost $350 to replace at the dealer. This is a great car. Very reliable and dependable. Somewhat sporty and has great torque to blast you out of tight spots. Inexpensive to maintain (it really is a somewhat upgraded Accord Coupe).
