I have a 1997 Bonneville - was running fine. Went to bank, came out and it would not start. The dash lights come on, but nothing when the key is turned. You can jump it from the starter, and will run 2-3 seconds and just die. Suggestions??
I had a 97 Pontiac Bonneville and got involved in a serious car accident two weeks ago. The insurance company is offering me very litle money, what I've contested. They"re now asking me to provide them with proof of the car value. Any idea about the value and how to get proofs. Thanks.
Before going to a large expense on fuel pumps and the like, have the GD burgler alarm system checked. It is the most worthless system that GM ever put on a car. My 97 bonneville does the same thing and it is in the key and ignition switch. When it is warm the switch does not recognize the key and it disables the fuel system. It just cranks and cranks. It even ... Read More
Is the fuel gauge sender also called a float assembly? Is it the sensor that shows you how much gas you have? If so, I had a new one installed 3 years ago. When I turn my ignition, before I start the car, I can hear a humm from the rear, is that the fuel pump? Can anything else be causing low fuel pressure? Is it difficult to replace the pump ... My car doesn't start after it's been running awhile, but it starts great when it's cold. I know when the engine is going to run ok when it goes up to 3 or 4 rpms and it idles fine for awhile. When I go to start it, after it's been running it wants to stall, but if I tap the gas pedal (lightly) it will surge and not stall. Sometimes it ... Read More
Phillifrank: The bolts around the UIM develope seeps which wick up oil and in some cases coolant which pools in the low spots such as around the bolt in the middle of the picture. The UIM is dry in that area so it's not going to seep them. The coolant goes through the UIM at the throttle body seals between it and the throttle body and about an inch to the ... Read More
The date arrow points to 00 on top of the manifold. Below is a photo of the leak, at the bottom of the manifold, under the nut. I also thing there's another leak. In the 2nd pic there's something on the hoses at the bottom of the engine which looks like dex-cool. I'm bringing it to get inspected any day. I unhooked the battery to see if I could get the ... It doesn't have a date on it like this? this one is from 1999, notice the arrow pointing to one of the four years.
I have a 1997 Pontiac Bonneville SE with 115,000 miles and a 3800 engine. After long drives my check engine light comes on, it usually goes off after a few days. This week I drove over 150 miles straight and the light is on. It hasn't gone off in 3 days. Why does this happen? I was told I can't get my car inspected if the light is on. I have ... Read More
I dried the liquid and I'm waiting to see if it reappears. The manifold doesn't have a date on it. I'll be taking my car to get fixed and inspected, and I hope it doesn't cost much. I'll let you know what happens. Thank You for all of your help.
Dry up the current liquid around the manifold and heads by soaking up with paper towels. See how soon it reappears. What was the date on one of the circles for the upper intake? If it was original to the car, it may have had a partial fix applied. I believe during 1999 is when GM changed the size of the metal EGR pipe. DexCool develops a gooop if regular antifreeze ... I bought the car in 05 with 95,798.miles on it. As you suggested, I took the beauty cover off and looked at the manifold, which has (2 half dollar circles and 2 small) I noticed some thick liquid at the bottom of the upper manifold, which looks and smells like the dex cool. My radiator and reserve have thick brown goop, which I had flushed 3 years ago, but it's returned ... Read More
>1997 Bonneville with 115,300 miles and I have to put Dex cool in my radiator every week. There's no leak that I can see but the radiator's very low after a week Before panicking about the antifreeze let's ask some questions. Have you owned the car since new? If so has the upper intake manifold been replaced? How many miles ago? If you bought the car used, how many miles on ... Read More
Hi Frank, If you read through the numerous post on the subject of intake manifold problems with this car, you'll soon learn that this most likely is your problem with the disappearing antifreeze. Antifreeze is leaking through the intake manifold gasket into a cylinder and blown out the tailpipe. Make sure your engine oil show no signs of antifreeze/water in it, if it does, don't run car again untill fixed or ... Read More
Do you hear the turn signal flasher click when you turn in on or off? I believe it's up under the left side of the dash to the left of the steering column. It might be on the fuse block that's off to the left. The turn signal is different than the 4-way flasher. I can hear mine clicking on the 98 and can't tell where it is up under there. ... Read More
I have a 1997 Bonneville with 115,300 miles and I have to put Dex cool in my radiator every week. There's no leak that I can see but the radiator's very low after a week. Thanks for your help. It does it whether it is hot or cold. Have you changed your starter yet? Did that help?
Well, you can try the starter. It could need replaced. Or just have the shims realigned on the bolts. I'm having the same problem right now with my 1994 Bonneville. Does it seem to only happen when it's cold out?
I have a 1997 Bonneville that just won't start sometimes. It won't crank at all. Lights, radio, everything works. I wait about 10 minutes and it will start. Now I have been having to wait even longer. I can get it jumped and it will start. It started out just doing it every few months, then every few weeks, then every few days, to now many times a day. In response to message #1218, the noise I have occurs in each gear and increases with rpm. It cycles up, then down, as each gear is engaged. It is somewhat "high-pitched", so I would not describe it as a "humming" noise. This is very disturbing to me, as I have owned a number of new and used Pontiacs - but have never had to replace a transmission. This car has been ... Read More

I've recently purchased a 1997 bonneville ssei. The Pontiac dealer told me there was not any type of oil check for the supercharger. Is this true? Also the hemp. gage fluctuates between 190 and 220-240 on a regular basis. Is this normal? Thanks in advance.
I paid $49.99 plus tax for the filter from a local performance shop. I did not figure I needed the cleaner because the box says that it will only need cleaning every 50,000-100,000 miles except under extremely dusty conditions. I plan to keep the car for 90,000 miles max. and generally drive mostly highway. The paper work in the box says it fits 1994-1997 Pontiac Bonneville V6-3.8L(1). I'm not sure what ... Read More
