  • Clattering sound

I have a 1996 Nissan Sentra GLE; I've owned this car for 6 years now and I have never had any engine problems which I am very fortunate for!! However, for the past several years, I've noticed a "clattering" sound everytime I make a long swooping corner. It almost sounds like something is loose and "clattering". Also, I've noticed when driving down uneven roads or hitting small holes or potholes, the ... Read More

Nissan Sentra vs Honda Civic

If you floor the gas pedal after stopping at every red light (if no other car before you) in a Civic, the mpg will probably be below 30. Well that's a no-brainer right there. I'm not sure why anyone would need to floor it, though. I've never "had" to floor my Accord from a redlight to get the lead on traffic, say, if I needed to change lanes and found it ... Read More

I have a 1996 sentra that stopped running while I was turning left. It shuddered and shook and then the warning lights all came on (brake, oil, check engine, etc ... ). To get it to the mechanic, whenever we were stopped, we put the car in neutral and stepped on the accelerator to keep the engine running. The mechanic ran diagnostics. It turns out it was the EGR valve. He ... Read More

My 1996 Nissan Sentra will start but dies. If I keep my foot on the accelerator then the engine will run take my foot off and the engine dies. If I keep my foot on the accelerator long enough the engine will remain on. The engine will also remain on if I let the car sit for a few hours. The last time my Sentra would not start I had it ... • Re: 1996 Sentra Engine Oil leak

First, you should really get underneath the vehicle and check for oil from the bottom side of the engine. The typical leak generator on a Nissan GA16 motor is the timing chain cover. I have also seen three Sentras that had a lot of oil all over the rear of the engines. This was later traced to the wrong oil filters being installed allowing oil to leak around the filter gasket. ... Read More

I recently picked up my 2001 Nissan Sentra SE and it has a gas cap holder which seemed a little odd to me since the gas cap also has a permanent attachment so that it just hangs there when filling with gas. Quick question I traded in a 1996 Sentra for this one. When I got my 1996 Sentra I was told only to use 89 octane gas, the manual for ... Read More
