Signed up for 2010 Kia Sportage LX 4x4 A/T (46K ml), but decided to sleep on it before finalizing the deal. Feel jittery...I had VW and Audi's (sedans) all my life before and while those are most fun to drive, I *always* had problems with needing constant repairs -- big and small, from getting a peach 1999 "New" Jetta to needing to replace a whole auto tranny on 1999 VW Passat ... I went out to drive my 1999 kia sportage 5 speed this morning, when i depressed the clutch it was hard to depress. Ordinarily the clutch is very easy to depress. Any idea what the problem may be? mfant
I have had my battery changed 3 separate times and the car keeps ruining them. I took the car to the shop and had the battery and alternator tested. Both test good at the time if testing. I recently fixed a bad headlight ground and was assured by the garage that it is not the cause of the issue. Please help me!!! What other reason could cause the battery to go ... Read More
Hello I read what problems you were having and want to see if you had resolved that issue? I am having the same issue with my 1999. can't figure it out. if possible can you let me know. very much in need of HELP. Thanks
I am working on a 99 kia sportage. it has poor acceration. Has anyone came across the same Problem? Presently has no codes.
hi their, i own a 1999 kia sportage. it had been running verry well but then it started having a misfire. i thought it was something simple like a plug or plug lead so changed them both. no joy. then it was suggested i change the coil packs so i changed them both. again no joy. then it was suggested that i should may have a vaccume pipe problem, so they ... 2 questions, one reply: Overheating: this looks very much like a blown head gasket....a rather frequent issue; you can open radiator cap, fill to top, run engine an d look for bubbles...bubbles are an almost certain sign of blown gasket. More sophisticated tset is to go for a CO2 test from radiator cap.......specialty shops have that. YOu can also have a compression test , a little awkward because of all the ... Read More
Ok my last question for now and this one is really for two reasons. I need to know how to remove the interior door panels (I have a two door) for two reasons. 1) I need to replace the speakers that are in the door 2) The passenger side won't open from the inside and needs the handle repaired thanks for any help....much appreciated!
This question pertains to when we ran the AC on the way to Florida in December the passenger floor board was saturated with water. I need to know what can cause this and possibly how to inexpensively fix it! Thank you!
Hi everyone! I'm new and I have three questions and will post them separately. First, the reserve tank on my radiator empties very quickly and when it's empty it causes smoke to come out from under the hood. I really don't know what is causing it to empty so quickly which causes it to over heat. I'm heading to Florida Thursday and need to resolve it quickly and cheaply! Thanks for ... Read More
I have a 1999 kia sportage 4WD with the exact same problem and circumstances. It won't start cold unless I hook up a battery charger, and crank it for 8 minutes with the gas pedal nailed to the floor. After sputtering, it begins to run...then runs perfect. It will start again for the rest of the day, and run well. The next day....same problem!! I replaced the timing belt, and water ... Read More
Don't know if this will help you but I had a similar problem with my 1999 kia sportage. I would find my passenger floor board with a puddle of water on it. My problem was the heater vent tube was clogged. I cleaned out tube and it no longer leaks. Good Luck
the trip the temp guage started to go up. turned on the heat it dropped back below half. then ..the guage shot all the way down below cold then started dancing around when i would come to a stop it would just drop again.. any ideas That was one of symptoms I already described as associated with exhaust invasion of cooling system due to a blown head gasket. THis is what ... Read More
Ok so now i have anotgher problem I drove to cleveland today which is aboutu 3 hours away and at about 90 miles into the trip the temp guage started to go up. So i turned on the heat it dropped back below half. then when i got off at my exit the guage shot all the way down below cold then started dancing around as i would accelerate and when ... Read More
Ok sorry for the delay in letting you know what i found out. I have yet to get a meter to test the amps. However, I ended up taking the car in and and apparently my clutch was gone in the fan i thought because it was moving it waws ok. But i am guessing it wasn't. But then i still had the over-heating problem so they kept the car for ... Read More
Ok i went and looked at the oil cap and there was a little bit of a milky whit substance there so i wiped it clean and i will look again after i drive the car to see of more appears.
in previous post I wrote: If the coolant spill invades the oil pan, the inside of oil cap I'm talking of the oil filler cap....
i noticed that when i turned the blower motor on the guage did move up a little bit with thuring it on then dropped down a little once i shut it off That is almost "normal" as the return grounds for dash and blower are common and slight variation is expected. WHen the ground connection goes awry, the variation worsens. is there anything else i would notice if the head gasket ... Read More
It is belt driven. now i guess i have another question, is there anything else i would notice if the head gasket was blown. and i also noticed that when i tirned the blower motor on the guage did move up a little bit with thuring it on then dropped down a little once i shut it off.
..yes, the fan between radiator and engine. Is it electrical or belt driven? factory is belt, but some owners replaced it with an electric fan. ANyway Ohio is not that warm at this time of the year, I suppose...
do you just mean the white fan behind the radiator? if so it starts when i turn the car on. so that would mean it would continue to run once the car was on correct?
...but you did not tell me about the fan....you are sure it has a belt driving it? My son had a similar problem with his NIVA..overheating and alternator failure........just to discover the fan belt was simply gone.....and with all those things around there, it needed to peek intentionally to notice something was missing....
I was questioning the pump , just trying to find a thread where I remember someone said the blades from the water pump had all broken out..but I don't thnk that was in a KIA forum...probably a GM 3.1 or 3.4....so I'd rather dowplay this option. WHen you say "take all that off to give it a tune"...I suppose y0u mean the valve cover...hey?...well just to change the spark plugs, no. ... Read More
Yeah actually the only thing i have replaced was the thermostat. And i took another listen once i sent last post and there was a hissing noise and the water was just rushing back into the overfill tank.. Could the water pump be causing this problem possibly? And do i have to take all that off just to give it a tune up??
Well that sounds more severe indeed.....you cannot fake boiling...ha! I'd find an air compressor and test as I said. It is just so annoying the plugs are out of easy reach...but it is not such a tedious job anyway. You will have to remove the valve cover. engine THose complaining of fan clutch failure were mostly living in very warm environment and used A/C ; in cool temperatures, highway speed is ... Read More
Haha so i decided to just drive the car with the heat off until the temp guage went to the top (i also filled up the reseviour) and when i pulled in the drive way it was spewing out the over fill hose and what sounded like it was boiling.. I also added one wire from the negative battery terminal to the frame. and i noticed that both the pos and ... Read More
Your problem with dash lights might be linked with the high temp indicator. IN fact try one thing: run the car, then run the heater blower at different speeds. Does the temp needle change position instantaneously when you switch the blower on? THis problem was reported several times and seems to be linked with ground problems. SO several have run new ground wires from the battery negative to engine block, firewall, ... Read More
Ok i also had another question about the lights in my car i noticed tonight that half of my dash lights (the side where the fuel gauge and temp guage are) and the radio buttons will go off and come back on once in a blue moon. Would this be caused by a bad ground? and if so do you have a wiring diagram for the vehicle? cause i would really ... Read More
Hi yes i actually have steady heat i have never noticed a time when it gets cold at all. And it has never steamed or overheated just the guage goes up. But there is no circulation of the fluids. that is what confuses me. Now by compressed air do you mean canned air or the air i would use to blo up a tirer on the car?
No bubbles is a good sign...and while a few isolate cases were reported, this engine type really does not have a bad history of blown gasket . I understand you have changed the thermostat.... ANd yes, exhaust invasion will impair coolant circulation but I'm still not committed to that explanation without further signs. WHen you use the heater DO you have a steady heat flow coming from the heater or are ... Read More
Ok i have another quick question there are not really bubbles coming out but it looks like there is something coming to the top. And i actually only have alittel coolant in the reserve tank. Would a blown head gasket cause the ater not to circulate threw the engine? I am just getting really frustrated with this car as i have never had so many problems with a car. It seems ... Read More
It actually shoots up real quick then just goes back to the original resting place I'm afraid it generates a gaz bubble taht escapes at start up then additional gaz can escape without showing bubbles as the level is down. Do that again but once it "goes back to original resting place", keep it running and top off to the rim with coolant to see if gas bubbles escape. DO you ... Read More
Hi i have one more question i replaced the thermostat today and i noticed that there was coolant leaking from the casing before i actually replaced it. Now my question would be when i start the car with the radiator cap off the water does not get sucked down. It actually shoots up real quick then just goes back to the original resting place. Also after driving the guage once again ... Read More
THe positive probe on center of lighter plug, the negative to any metal part of the body, including the outside ring of the lighter plug. Of course, you can test direct on the battery posts . BLown gasket will show other signs: heater will provide sporadic heat, temp needle will fluctuate, steaming, having to top off the radiator and coolant tank from time to time.... THere is one electric fan ahead of the radiator, and the clutch fan between engine and rad. THe electric fan is turned on with the A/C....I have not checked if it would kick ON at a given coolant temperature even without the A/C. Several owners have replaced the clutch fan with an electric fan when they figured out the clutch was shot.. THe "pulsating" headlights let me think the alternator belt ... Read More
Ok i have another quick question how many fans are supposed to be infront of the radiator. as i am looking and i only have one, and when i turn the air conditioner on it works fine (is that the same fan that would be cooling my car off?) I am so confused as i know with teh civics it was usually just the thermostat and it was an easy fix. ... Read More
Depends in which environment you are driving. Failure of fan clutch has been reported a number of times ...that would have more impact in hot weather, if A/C is used but much less on the open road as windstream is generally enough to control temperature. Remember that DEF and HEAT/DEF positions on the heater trig the A/C ON without asking you for the permission. Thermostat is here:
Hi i drive my 1999 kia sportage around town all the time and i have never had a problem with the temp gage going above half way. Ok funny thing the buzzing has just came to a halt. Why i do not know. but if it starts up again i will try switching the two relays around. If that fixes the problem what should i do then? Thanks
Negative. If as you say the relay "buzzes" when the key is off, something must be wrong elsewhere. IN any case, just to be sure, just swap the fuel pump relay and the EGI relay one for the other and see if the same occurs. By hte way this is not the first time this oddity occurs...but the issue was not solved or the solution not reported... Anyway, if this "buzz" ... Read More
Ok i had the battery checked and it was good. where do i go from here do i replace the relay?
Obviously the car cannot run without this relay diagram THis relay is turned ON by the computer. THe ECU is fed all the time with 12v and a low voltage can have weird effects.Have the battery fully recharged before anything else.
Hi, The one that vibrates And makes the noise is the ECI Main (the big one on the left). then once i pull igt out there is a slight noise coming from the box but does not last long. Can you identify which relay you are talking about? Will the car run without it?
OK i figured out what the problem was, it was the oil cooler. so i took it in to get it fixed and now i have another problem. I mean i just got the car ... Read More
The oil filter adapter (as well as filter) has been a culprit in the past. THese are the only external oil passages...Check all bolts for tightness. Blown pressure switch have happened. Can't locate the drainage plug for the radiator. I have a 1999 kia sportage ex. Anyone know where it is?
1999 kia sportage started fine this morning, however after running for a few minutes it made a hissing noise and started pouring smoke out. The smoke wasn't from the radiator, it started from the driver's side up by the window. Any ideas what this may be and how to fix it?
