You do know that the FJ fought in World War II also. Just on the other side! So that proves nothing. I have 3 Jeeps and love them all. A 2000 GC with 201K (No problems) A 1991 Cherokee with 225K no problems and a 1998 Wrangler Sport with 140K no problems. Two have the 4L and the GC has the 4.7 But the fact that they fought in WWII doesn't ... Read More
Ideas on how to unlock the transmission so I can get it to a shop? While it may be the transmission or the transfer case, it could also be the differential. To establish which it is, disconnect the rear driveshaft. If it then rolls easily it's a transmission problem, if it's still locked up it's the rear axle causing the problem.
This morning when I started to back up the jeep, it wouldn’t move as if the brakes were on! Checked the emergency brake, it was off. Set it on and off to be sure. Still won’t move. Won’t go forward or backwards. In neutral, I cannot move it even by pushing it by hand. I tried shifting to 4wd, same. Put transmission in N, same. Won’t move. I jacked up the ... Read More
UPDATE -- Installed new transmission, clutch and slave. WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR. Good pedal, etc. Lifelong Jeep / drive train specialists baffled as well as a my friend, CarMax master mechanic. I later thought the surfaces may just be mated together and needed a little loosening up. I revved the vehicle to 5K for about a second and it started shifting just fine. Reverse grinds occasionally but other than that ... Read More
On the weekend I was reading an article on the all new 2007 Jeep Wrangler. With the exception of the V-6 engine and the crappy plastic bumpers its a pretty impressive machine – especially with that electric sway bar disconnect. I did a little checking on Ramp Travel Indexes tests for various stock vehicles, here are just a few RTI numbers I found: 1991 Honda civic hatch back (factory stock): 319 ... Read More
I had a professor once who was extraordinarily dismayed when the CJs were discontinued in 1986, only to be replaced by the Wrangler. He called Wranglers comptuers on wheels, or something like that, and refused to buy new. So to him, even the 1991 would be a modern abomination. I guess it's all in the perspective (like each generation hating the music of the generation before). And while I don't subscribe ... Read More
I have a 1991 jeep YJ Wrangler with the steel half doors. Anybody know where you can get stainless steel replacement door handles for it?
I am a second time Wrangler owner. I would reccomend this vehicle to a certain crowd. If you have kids.....forget it. If you can't take a little wind, or road noise don't bother. If you enjoy a powerful agile vehicle, this is your best bet. My first Jeep was a 1991 sport. Red with black tops. A rough ride, but an absolute workhorse. It had 90,000 miles on it when I ...
