I bought my 2006 Civic LX coupe new. After nearly 9 years and 85,000 miles this car has been just about problem free... averaging over 30 mpg consistently. The ride is bouncy and it can be loud but I knew that going in... it is... after all... an economy car. Update: Now have had car 10 1/2 years and 97.000 miles.. and still drives like a new car. Mechanically no issues Went thru a recall regarding the paint which was dealt with thru my local dealer. Mileage now averages around 32 mpg mostly around town. Had an accident (not my fault) car suffered moderate damage but kept me safe and was very controllable throughout. Really the only other bit of advice I would give about this particular model would be two things: one: This car was designed for a smaller person... Please test drive thoroughly before considering an 8th Gen Civic. Specifically the Coupe. two: The design/specifically the C Pillars can make parking a challenge. Another Update: 12 years old, 104,000 miles, and a long road trip. Continues to be mostly issue free. Averaged just under 40 mpg on road trip and around 30 overall. Only issue mechanically is a leaking power steering pump. Doesn't effect drivability right now but will eventually need to be dealt with. Otherwise Trouble Free. Thanks Honda! Coming up on 13 years and now 110,500 miles. Only issue besides power steering pump slow leak is paint getting thin on one bumper. That’s it! 03/21 Coming up on 15 years and 123K. Paint (clearcoat?) is really starting to go bad on the hood and driver's side fender. Little things like the cover of center console randomly popping up over bumps; minor annoyances. Mechanically it drives like new getting around 30mpg. So far so good!

Definitely the fastest base model civic, and a real charm to drive. I put over 90,000 miles on the car in less than four years, from NYC at Friday commute to the length of Highway 1, and hour upon hour in Chicago rush hour. I had no regrets, and am not convinced that my new car will be as reliable over the next year as this car would be. The cabin is spacious and ergonomic. The speedometer is well placed and sufficiently easy to read that it becomes second nature. Visibility is certainly good enough. There are a lot of things that annoy me about this car, but it took a lot of thought and substantially more money to replace the car after years of hard use.

Some thoughts about my 06 civic LX coupe (manual)

Got this car "newish" as a dealer demo from Richmond Hill Honda with +- 12,000 km on it. I had the HPF skirt package installed before I bought it. Today, (Dec 2012) I have over 210k kms on it. I sometimes tow a 700lb trailer with it for camping, I lug a car full of DJ gear with it too. This car's been a delight - a REAL PERFORMER. Muffler went at 100k, front rotors at 150k, battery after 4 yrs; all typical stuff if you ask me. I do the plugs myself and do all the other stuff on schedule. "This car doesn't owe me nothin' :) " and has been 100% reliable ALWAYS. Clearcoat on the hood has failed (cracked/split) and others have experienced same (on forums); I'm living with it.

Defective engine. Dealers hid underlying problem when water pump had to be replaced 3 times for broken bolts. Bolts holding engine to chassis just dropped out. When I said there was something wrong, bolts don't just break. I was told there was nothing wrong with the bolts. They thought 130,000 miles was good for the Consumers car of the year.
