Overview
The Roma is a quintessential grand-touring machine and Ferrari's entry-level model. But don't let the entry-level label fool you: This Ferrari's combination of performance, comfort and style is fully worthy of the brand's legendary heritage. It will rack up nearly endless touring miles with ease and grace and you'll attract looks of envy as you drive by. The Roma is a compelling alternative to the more expensive Portofino M and the brand's top performance models.
Like a true grand tourer, the Roma has a front-mounted engine that directs power to the rear wheels. It's motivated by a twin-turbocharged 3.9-liter V8 that's good for 611 horsepower and 561 lb-ft of torque. The engine is backed by an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Getting to your favorite destination on time won't be a problem in the Roma — Ferrari says the grand-touring coupe will hit 62 mph (100 kph) from a stop in 3.4 seconds.
The Ferrari Roma Spider, or the convertible model, will likely grace us with its presence for the 2023 model year. The Spider should keep the same powertrain, but we don't know if it will have a hardtop or cloth top like the Portofino M. Either way, you'll be able to hear the beautiful sound of its V8 soundtrack better than ever with the top down.
If you check out the Roma's website, you'll see that Ferrari calls it "La Nuova Dolce Vita," or the New Sweet Life. That's not just marketing. The Roma will delight even the most seasoned supercar owner. Yes, it's expensive, but for what it offers, the Roma is quite the bargain. But of course it's not the only impressive grand tourer out there. The Porsche 911 Turbo S, Bentley Continental GT and Aston Martin DB11 are alluring alternatives to the Roma. None of them can claim the best or latest technology, but that's not what these grand-touring coupes are about.
