2015 Volvo S60 Cross Country To Bow at 2015 Detroit Auto Show

ROCKLEIGH, New Jersey — The 2015 Volvo S60 Cross Country, a new sedan version of the brand's popular Cross Country station wagons, will debut next week at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show.

The S60 Cross Country will arrive at Volvo dealerships in the summer, targeting such German wagons as the Audi Allroad and BMW 3 Series Sports Wagon. Pricing will be announced closer to he S60 Cross Country's on-sale date.

The S60 Cross Country joins the 2015 Volvo V60 Cross Country wagon in the lineup.

Volvo calls it "the first premium sedan with the same level of capability and rugged design cues" as the Cross Country wagons.

The all-wheel-drive S60 Cross Country has an increased ride height of 2.5 inches compared to the S60 sedan. It will launch in the U.S. with a 250-horsepower 2.5-liter inline five-cylinder gasoline engine linked to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Buyers have a choice of 18- or 19-inch wheels with high-profile tires.

"We have identified a clear niche in the market for a more capable sedan with rugged styling cues and a higher stance," said Alain Visser, Volvo senior vice president of sales, marketing and customer service, in a statement. "The S60 Cross Country will appeal to people that are searching for an exciting and capable sedan, while enjoying the clear benefits that a crossover offers."

Edmunds says: The Volvo S60 gets a little SUV swagger, thanks to the new Cross Country version, something that should drive more buyers into Volvo showrooms.
