I might be able to help you. I have an 06 Lucerne CXS with the V8 and 17" chrome wheels. Right from the get go, there was the same vibration that you are experiencing. After many alignments and road force balances, I bit the bullet and bought a set of Michelins. This helped a lot but did not get rid of the vibration completely. Will the dealer transfer a set of Michelins from another Lucerne for a temporary test drive on your car? Just bolt the other wheels on. I thought there was a TPS for this problem after it surfaced in a few cars and seemed untreatable by the usual methods. Has the car been perfectly aligned front and REAR wheels? Have the tires been Road Force balanced on the _perfect_ high sensitivity setting ... Read More

Four service visits and three sets of B/S Turanza El 400's later, I still have the vibration. The tires have been road force balanced and the dealer will not upgrade me to different rubber to completely rule out the (they ... Read More

The GM Hydramatic 2nd is good to over 70 in hard acceleration, and even though it will be a lot better when Buick puts in the new 6spd GM-Ford transmission, the 4 spd provides plenty with the v-8. With the 3800 and a more relaxed axle ratio, the car feels a bit lethargic under some conditions. I am contemplating getting a Ming Blue CXL with V-8. It is the best deal ... Read More

Perhaps we should return to the days of the powerglide with one planetary gearset. The question of failure rates depend on how well the transmission is engineered and built. I see no reason to expect it to have more problems. The northstar automatic has a 2.96:1 first gear, and a 0.68 overdrive. The overall ratio is 2.96/.68 = 4.35:1. The gear ratio averages about 1.63 from higher to lower gears. The ... Read More

The 4 speed automatic you have gives you 4 basic gears: a low gear to start off in; a passing gear; and two driving gears, 3rd gear is good for up to say 50 MPH, while overdrive is better for highway cruising. These gears are all spaced far apart. A six speed transmission will add a lower first gear, and a higher overdrive and will space the gears closer together. A ... Read More

A 5 speed would add several things, bunky36... First, it would fulfill the "expectation" that a car in this sedan category today has 5 forward gears (even if 5th is overdrive). Second, the 0 to 70 times (approx) would improve slightly and be closer to the competition. This is meaningful to some potential buyers. Third, the gas mileage would probably go up a little. Fourth, the transmission would probably last longer ... Read More

The other possibility (I suppose) is a revised (a.k.a. Torque limited) version of the Northstar – retuned to match the 6T70’s limits. Did this with the supercharged Regal GS thru the powertrain computer-easy to do.

Latest FWD Northstar, as used in the Lucerne, is rated at 275 \ 295 = HP \ TQ [[ Designation: LD8 ]]. The published ratings from GM for the A6 FWD (6T70) are 315 \ 280 = HP \ TQ. Thus, based on the Torque of this V8, this version of the trans. would not appear compatible with the Lucerne. So – the real question (I think) is whether or not ... Read More

I don't think the 3800 will matter a bit to the "typical" LeSabre buyer. They want quiet, smooth, dependable, and the 3800 has that written all over it. Your average Buick owner isn't into the latest technology, IMO. Other factors rank higher (again - quiet, smooth, reliable....). The RWD Buick is going to happen, but I wouldnt expect it before 2006. The Lucerne and the RWD large car will exist at the same time. The Lucerne will probably be aimed at traditional Lesabre and Park Ave owners while the RWD car will be aiming for the 300C.
