We bought this Lucerne brand new in May 2006. First problems, driver side door handle came off in my hand - not once, but twice - dealer said it was a design flaw. Then problem with brake lights, turning signals, etc. - Dealer took care of that. Now that we are out of warranty, the battery is giving us a headache. If I don't drive the car for a couple of ... I appreciate everyone taking the time to share their experiences with this problem. I bought my 2006 Lucerne (brand new) in 2007. Does anyone know about the fog lamps? Is it the same difficult procedure of removing the bumper cover first to change one?
IMO, it is just not right for it to be so difficult to change a bulb. Bad engineering on a fine car.
To replace the drivers side headlamp you do not need to remove the bumper as the dealer instructions call for. Take off the front shield that goes across the front of the engine. On the drivers side take of the air box and filter cover-there should be 3 metal clips on the lower motor side of the box. When open, slide out the engine electronics module and put it on top ... Try $1200 or less to replace a 4 speed transmission in a Buick(or other GM with one). Yes, the new GM 5-6 speed models are also similarly pricey, so the smart money is on the older 4 speed design. Buick has a fix for the darkness of the instrument cluster, I had it done on my 2006 Lucerne. They completely replace the instrument cluster with a cluster that has bigger and brighter numbers. The cluster still does not light up during daytime but, the bigger cluster is definately easier to see. It takes about 1 hr to make the change. Hope this helps. Roger

I have a V6 2006 Buick Lucerne with 24000 miles. I have recently noticed a vibrating noise from the engine compartment that sounds like a hollow plastic box, when the engine is under torque. I am having the same exact problem with my 2006 Lucerne -purchased new. I have complained to Buick several times, by emails, telephone, letter to President of Buick, my dealership but no results. From reading your message are you saying the 3800 engine provides more than adequate power in the current base Buick Lucerne? Sincerely.
The torque is of primary importance when it comes to performance. The horsepower only tells you how much torque is left once you get the engine near the redline. These gears are all spaced far apart. A six speed transmission will add a lower first gear, and a higher overdrive and will space the gears closer together. A ... Read More
A 5 speed would add several things, bunky36... First, it would fulfill the "expectation" that a car in this sedan category today has 5 forward gears (even if 5th is overdrive). Latest FWD Northstar, as used in the Lucerne, is rated at 275 \ 295 = HP \ TQ [[ Designation: LD8 ]]. The published ratings from GM for the A6 FWD (6T70) are 315 \ 280 = HP \ TQ. The RWD platform will be new. By 2010 the Lucerne/DTS platform may be replaced by the RWD platform. The VVT northstar is a RWD northstar. To what extent the VVT requires major changes to the engine is not clear to me, my guess is that it is not a simple matter of bolting something on.
The Lucerne will get a 6 speed automatic either 2007 or 2008 from what I'm hearing. GM has plans to produce over 3 million 6 speed autos by 2010 ;) As far as VVT, I'm not sure why it didn't make it to the Lucerne. Perhaps this will be done in the next few years. I don't think that the Buick Lucerne is aimed at the sports sedan market. In Motor Trend's car of the year testing only 7 of the 28 contenders (all new for model year 2006) were quicker than 6 seconds in the 0-60 race. I will agree that a car with more power will permit the drive to be less attentive when merging as the extra power will save him from his ... Read More
“My opinion is that the car magazines complain too much about 4 speeds now that 5's are more common. A 4 can be made to work well. I'm so happy with my STS that my first choice would be to buy another one new if I could. By the way, the FWD STS is great in snow. I went to look at the Lucerne which seemed on paper mechanically very similar. ... Read More
well i too own a Maxima, 1996, with 195,000 and still going strong. i dont require such a car, but i want one. i had a review way back and if you may have caught it, you will see i am only 24 but am loving this car. Buick is a name associated with Grandpa and Grandma to me. the Lucerne name is not my favoirte name, however i love this ... Read More
I think GM used this engine because they have to produce it and it must go into something. I don't think Buick wanted this engine at all. The 3800 is going to be in cars bought by rental agencies and people more concerned about mileage than acceleration. If you want fast 0-60 times this isnt the car for you, even the V8 isnt all that fast. This car isnt about smoking ... Read More
If GM can If put a 3.9 Liter engine in the 2006 Impala (3LT/LTZ) with 240 HP they certainly can put the same or similar engine in the 2006 Base Lucerne. I thought Buick was more upscale than Chey, with more powerful engines in their large sedans, whether base or luxury models. For us old timers, remember back in the 1970s, early 1980s when Buick had the Riviera, Lesabre and the ... Read More
"Missing features aside, the 2006 Buick Lucerne is far and away the best car in Buick's lineup. It's roomy, quiet, comfortable and surprisingly entertaining to drive. It's also ready to take on the Avalon." sounds pretty positive to me :)
This was posted in early November, but here's the link for anyone who missed it: First Drive: 2006 Buick Lucerne
"Can Somebody please explain to me why GM did not add more HP(Maybe at least 230 HP)to the old 3.8 Liter engine currently in the Base 2006 Lucerne. For 2006 the HP in the base Lucerne is 197. Or why didn't GM put the 3.9 Liter engine with 240 HP (Currently in the 2006 Chevy Impala)in the base 2006 Lucerne. For me the V8 engine in the 2006 Lucerne waste a ... Read More

The "Beyond precision" campaign is being created by McCann Erickson Worldwide, the agency that dreamt up the "Dream up" and Earl campaigns along with all other Buick campaigns since 1958. Although the budget for the campaign is not being disclosed, General Motors spends about $150 million to $200 million each year to advertise Buick models in major media. The campaign is to begin on Monday with television commercials for the 2006 ... Read More

Edmunds review? That's Autoweek. What Edmunds has said so far is at this link: 2006 Buick Lucerne. :)
I've been looking at the 2006 Buick Lucerne too.....guess what I'm 26' so the new style has reached out to a little younger generation.....I like the Lucerne for it's big, bold, Quality appearance, and since I have a wife and 2 kids I need a sedan. The 4 yr. 50k Bumper to Bumper is attractive too....The reliability of Buick is a factor also in my purchase decision.....This may seem weird, but ... Read More
This is from a GM press release dated 9/22/2005: Lucerne will be available in four models: CX, CXL V6, CXL V8, and CXS. Each MSRP listed includes a $725 destination charge. Buick Lucerne CX – $26,990 The most aggressively-priced model in the lineup, Lucerne CX is powered by GM’s 3800 Series III V-6. Lucerne ’s starting MSRP is $460 below the current LeSabre and comes with significantly more content – including ... Read More
I don't think the 3800 will matter a bit to the "typical" LeSabre buyer. They want quiet, smooth, dependable, and the 3800 has that written all over it. Your average Buick owner isn't into the latest technology, IMO. Other factors rank higher (again - quiet, smooth, reliable....). The Lucerne won't win any major converts who are more focsued about what's under hood...and I think that, at least in 2006, the ... Read More
The RWD Buick is going to happen, but I wouldnt expect it before 2006. The Lucerne and the RWD large car will exist at the same time. The Lucerne will probably be aimed at traditional Lesabre and Park Ave owners while the RWD car will be aiming for the 300C.
