Love my Volvo

I bought the car because of Volvo's reputation for safety. I ordered stick shift to get on the highway faster. Little did I know that it would perform so well and be so much fun to drive. I have maintained it with the dealer in Westport who has been nothing short of exceptional. The only recurrent problem I ever had was with the turn indicators. This was resolved through the replacement of a switch as part of a recall. At 50,000 miles it still drives like new. The only down side is that it has taken away the pleasure of getting to buy a new car after 4 years.

Everytime I have turned around in the last few years this car has needed something and it is always expensive. The joy of owning the car is constantly diminished by its time either in the shop or with something expensive wrong with it. No wait - everything is expensive from little lights to big lights. Surprisingly low quality leather means that a car that is 8 years old has tacky tearing on its seats. I can't wait to get rid of this thing. There are things I love about it, but usually I just regret the purchase.

Haven driven 2-door, manual, turbo for more than 11 years just before buying a 4-door sedan is a big change that I surprise myself and others that know me. But my Volvo never disappoint me - the quick pickup, power and comfortable seats that one can't get a sore back from a straight 10 hour drive, whatelse can you ask for more! OK, maybe the retain value, that's about it. If used the car long enough, this doesn't even matter.

Too many recalls, some not notified of. Numerous electrical problems which are unsettling for a car of this reputation. At 40,000, had to replace steering gear box and all 4 bearings on wheels. Lack of "neat to have items". Purchased for safety of vehicle and got disappointing reliability.
