Awesome Car
I have never owned a VW Passat before now.....what an amazing car! The Turbo engine is deceptively quick and fun to drive. Definitely not a boring ride.
Falling Apart
I have enjoyed owning this vehicle yet a local auto repairman told be to beware when I hit 30,000 miles. I am now at 32,000 miles and things are falling apart. The windows won't stay up and rain gets in the car. Also, my horn sounds for no reason, which is embarrassing. The pick up is markedly delayed when the air-conditioning is on. I am looking for a new car.

LUNAR'S PASSAT REVIEW
I FEEL YOU GET MORE THAN EXPECTED FROM THIS MID-SIZE GERMAN SEDAN. I BELIEVE THIS VEHICLE DRIVE MUCH BETTER THAN THE BMW 3 SERIES, THE VOLVO S60, AND JUST AS GOOD AS THE AUDI A6. WHICH, FOR THOSE WHO DID NOT KNOW IT'S BUILD ON THE SAME PLATFORM AS THE PASSAT. IN MY OPINION, WHY BUY THE AUDI A6 FOR ABOUT $6500.00 MORE WHEN YOU CAN GET THE SAME CAR WITH THE SAME FEATURES FOR LESS.
But Can You Get One?
Test drove the 2004 Passat TDI Wagon and thought 'Wow, nice car!' GLS Full- boat. Thought that the wagon drove better than the sedan!? Interior was Plain-Jane...Fake-wood trim looked just that, FAKE. Putrid interior, tan leather was already scuffed and dirty! But a nice driving car...If they can ever get more options...why no GLX version?!!!! I hate the blue-lit dash, cannot see the contrast of the numerals vs the background blue...wiper speed stink, give me a variable speed dial!
A drivers car
It's a great car. Much more fun to drive than the Accord or Camry (I test drove both). The engine is more powerful than the 4-cyl in either of those cars (horsepower does not tell the whole story), and the car is more solid and has better build quality as well. I have about 10K on the car and have had no reliability problems whatsoever. It's a car you can feel good about owning- more than just trasportation, more fun to own than a Japanese car.
Passat Diesel wagon 2004
GREAT car, avg 42mpg hwy, 35-36mpg city. Fun to drive, lots of poweer. The only thing I don't like is it doesn't have power seats. This is my first VW and it won't be the last.
would not buy another one
would not buy another one, problem with computer keys, leather covered material, leather comes off,had to pay 75.00 for two windshild wippers, mind you just the wippers, seems like everything cost you more on this car.
A blend of comfort, performance, economy
A friend raved about his Jetta TDI, and I drove it and was impressed. At first I thought the Passat might be more car than I needed, but I love the way it performs and it exudes engineering savvy. Lots of details have been carefully thought through. The selectronic transmission allows it to be shifted like a standard or driven as conventional automatic. Way cool! The moon roof is a nice feature and the trunk space is phenomenal. I've owned the car for two months and am still discovering nice features. So far I can recommend only two changes: lighted switches on the visor mounted progammable remote control buttons so you can see them at night .
