If you are looking for a sedan look no further, this is by far the best sedan you can buy for the money. Just a word of advise, if you are in the Northeastern Ohio area, check out Dave Walter VW in Akron. This is the best VW dealer in the area. I have never had such a pleasant car buying experience.

When we first test drove this vehicle, i couldn't believe it was a four cylinder. After that, I couldn,t justify the extra $2300 for the six. The car has been fantastic. Why would anyone pay all the extra money for the Audi? The build quality is absolutely first-rate; it gives my CLK cause for alarm. ( just kidding MB )

I've purchased my 2002 Passat in Nov. 2001. I loved the car "So i thought". the first week i had the car, one of the Headlights went out, 2 weeks later the fog lights went too, and more surprizes every month until last week when the ENG, EPC, and ASR light would all come on at the same time and the car would spuders, chokes, and stalls in the middle of traffic and had to restart it. The car has been at the Dealer ship's garage for four and still have no answer on what's causing the problem and how to go about repairing it. - suggestion to everyone -- Stay away if you can and buy the real thing, Audi, BMW, or Mercedes if you're in the market for a German car.

We bought this car in March and we love it. We have had no problems at all with it. It does tend to burn a lot of fuel for the power you get, but that is the only complaint I can come up with.

My Passat has been sent back to the dealer 5 times now. Twice for ignition coil failures and the other three times for various other "Check Engine Light" problems. The fact that the car can and does break down anywhere for no apparant reason makes it feel very unsafe to drive. I can't think of anything else than driving a car you do not feel safe in.

i have this passat for more than 3 years so far replaced windshield wipers motor, front cv joints with axle, just got whole cd/radio player broken, some emission sensors and have been driving with "check engine" light on for 2 years (due some stupid emission sensors!) and battery replaced! so you should really consider this-this car is bad on electronics! otherwise just keep up with maintenance and you'll be good!

Bought new (3/02), have approx 72K miles, no major problems. Several recalls, but dealership tended to quickly/efficiently. Had the Timing Belt job completed at 65K, did not want to risk going to 95-105K as VW suggests in manual. Very fun car to drive. Based on some posts, I guess I have been lucky. But I do follow the maintenance schedule religiously and use Synthetic oil!

I purchased my 2002 GLS Passat about a month and a half ago. It is a very solid capable automobile. I love the body style. I love the solid feel of the car. It is terrific on the highway. Around town the 1.8T is terribly anemic with the automatic transmission.

We were looking for a mid size wagon- not too many options in our american market. We both loved the way it drove and looked. The manual is short, precise, and has short throws. The steering is very accurate and gives good feedback. Disc brakes are very good, handling and acceleration too. We opted for the turbo. It provides good gas mileage, better than adequate acceleration and one of the best 4 cyl. Size was perfect for us. Seating is comfortable for 5 - not as big as the new camry/altima/accord. Luggage room is amazing on the wagon. After 11,000 miles we are extremely happy that we purchase this car and keep getting compliments from people.

1st new car ever bought, came from a Chevy Nova with 280K miles, Mazda Protege with over 225K miles, my VW has died at 142,000 miles from the dreaded oil sludge issue. Didn't have any other major problems, car stills looks good, all the interior parts work well, but not willing to spend $5K plus to fix it, admit to now being disappointed in the car. I will not buy another VW.

I bought this car new and I still love it. The driving dynamics and the general build quality are commendable. The fuel economy of the 1.8T is terrific (25 around town, 29-31 on the hwy) yet V6-like acceleration is there when I want it. The Monsoon sound system is great. It's great in the snow (with snow tires). The interior comfort and lighting are super. I have two complaints: a couple things have gone wrong that should not go wrong (clogged heater core) and it is expensive to maintain.

We bought our Fresco Green 1.8T in June and fight over who drives it every weekend--love it! Only glitch is Monsoon radio decided to die today, and according to the B5 website it's a common problem. Regardless, the styling and driving feel of our Passat is second to none. Looked at 02 Altima, Sebring, 300M, Galant (our old car). No contest.

I investigated and found that the Passat was rated #1 in its class and I can see why. I was worried about the horsepower with the four cylinder turbo, but I am not disappointed. The appearance of the car looks as if I spent a fortune and the inside is as comfortable and stylish as any other car on the road. I will never buy anything but VW again!! This car is perfect for a small family or a single person. Dah, Dah, Dah...

I've only had this car 3 weeks, and I am enjoying the heck out of it! I wanted Ink Blue, which the dealer told me was being discontinued, and as a result was a little difficult to find, but the dealer located one for me in NC (I live near DC). I wanted the grey interior with the luxury package and monsoon stereo, which I got. I also ended up with homelink (guess I'll get a garage door opener now). The car rides great and handles well. I have received alot of compliments on the look of the car. It has chrome trim, and with the bright blue, it looks sweet! My only complaint is I'm short, and have to have the seat up all the way, so the arm rest is useless.

I bought my '02 Passat about 3 months ago and I am loving every minute of it. I have owned several cars in the last decade, but nothing even comes close to the ride and build quality of this amazing car. After I bought those cars in the past, I would grow melancholy with my purchase in just a few months, but not with this one, I still get out and look back as I am walking away. My only regret is that I did not get the leather (please do yourself a favor and get it). My suggestion to Toyota and Honda is to take a trip to Germany and see how these guys do it.

This is, hands down, the best car I have ever owned. Fun to drive, tasteful styling, and more features than you can shake a stick at. Definitely get the GLX model if you like creature comforts. The Tiptronic system works like a dream, and is excellent for driving in mountainous areas, like I do (Colorado). I typically get 20/25 MPG, which is better than quoted, but still could be better.

Purchased mid-Sept '02. Very nice handling sedan with adequate power (Tip makes it sluggish from a stop, unless you boot it) and good brakes. I'm hoping that VW will soon resolve the issue of the failing ignition coil packs....don't like the thought that one or more could fail while doing highway speeds with an 18 wheeler on my tail!

I'm a convert from Japanese cars and hope it'll be as reliable as my Toyota and Nissans! I don't understand criticisms of this car's pricing. For what you pay, it's real value.

Originally, we weren't too interested in buying VW even though we enjoyed 4 different VWs over the years. I checked out BMW and Volvo and finally put some money down on a new Nissan Altima SE (260HP Manual) which would be a month wait when I decided to do keep looking around. I heard that VW doubled their warranty and decided to check out the Passat merely for it's size and look. As soon as my wife and I climbed into the car we looked at each other and smiled. Needless to say, we bought it almost on the spot and haven't looked back!

This is the most comfortable car I've owned yet! I commute between Huntsville, AL and Atlanta, GA twice weekly. My Passat has the tiptronic (it's both an automatic and a stick shift) and it provides a TRULY ENJOYABLE DRIVING EXPERIENCE! I would strongly encourage anyone who's looking for a great car to look at the Passat. It has more room in the back seat than it's luxury equivalent, the Audi A4. It's a great soccer car too!

Pros: "Laser-track" drive; quiet cabin; rich interior; fine finish even in hidden areas; 48mo/50K warranty; VALUE compared to all below $34K! Toyota/Honda, look! Can't touch it! Cons:"Turbo lag" takes getting used to. Passat is IT! Study the $24-34K market. Only 325i is close... so keep that extra $10K! You'll get much the same for a price below sticker. Turbo lag? Just punch through it. You'll always turn to look when you park. And Monsoon is superb - Better than in our Lexus.

I bought the 2002 Passat 1.8T after having my heart set on the new Nissan Altima. After putting both to the test, I am very pleased with my decision. I've driven Japanese cars all my life, so this was somewhat of a leap for me. The Passat was far superior at control and cornering...both of which far outweighed slightly less power, in my opinion. Other positives for the Passat include construction quality, standard features (including ABS) and interior design.

Got my Passat 4 weeks ago and already have put 2000 miles on it. I took the following options: Monsoon, Leather and Luxury pakages. Really a great car to drive. Two thirds of my driving is done on Expressways at an average of 85 MPH (140 Kmh here, in Canada). Even if performance are good, I'm now looking to have it chip tuned to improve highway performance. Very powerful in first 3 gears. Good thing the Anti-Slip is standard! In conclusion, this car is really worth a serious test drive.

This is such a beautiful car, it makes me sad to sell it. I love the luxury, the comfort, the smooth drive. I bought it in 4/06 at 94k mileage. It's now at 124k and i've made many many expensive repairs. I just can't afford to take it to the mechanic every other month anymore. And my mechanic, quite frankly, is fed up with working on it. It's a manual and so fun to drive, especially when the Turbo kicks in. i get roughly 28- 32 mpg.

After seeing all the new vehicles in the auto show in Philly and test driving the picks, VW Passat is the best choice. The interior and build quality is much better than all the Japanese. Tiptronic and trip computer are such fun. Now I understand why Ward's Auto World has chosen this engine in between the best 10, Edmunds has chosen Passat as "the best premium sedan" and a "best buy" by Consumer Guide. I used to have a VW Golf which is a great car also, but this car is better. The only problem now I have is I will not be able to buy any other brand. VW AG makes the best cars...

First, only 28 days after I take the car home, its radio/stereo/cd suddenly stop working, it won't even power up, will have to bring it back for repair. And with a 180Hp engine, I thought its acceleration would be much better; this baby can't even compete with my 2001 Civic LX (115hp); and the acceleration pedal is too close to the side wall, so if you have a fair size feet, you have to squeeze it in there.

I bought this car in November of 2001 and am still in love with it. I always back away from it after I lock it up! Very good pickup with some initial lag due to the ASR (just turn it off if you want to squeal the wheels). Incredible acceleration even at highway speeds, but a bit more sluggish with a car full of adults. Outstanding fit and finish. No mechanical problems whatsoever. Only thing that broke was the tape player, which VW fixed for free. Can't get over how comfortable the ride is, and I think all the interior controls are perfectly set up. Bottom line: I highly recommend this car.

We compared the Camry, Accord, and Passat. The VW had it all. Safety, performance, comfort, fit and finish, great looks, and in more recent years reliability. Keep the options to a minimum to maximize value. Couple the 1.8 turbo with the manual tranny for real fun. I feel like Im driving a luxury car-with the others I didnt. one negative-wind and road noise above 80mph.
