I bought my 2016 Jetta back in Oct 2020. I found it for sale thru the Auto trader for a decent price and certified with two year warranty. It had 28500 miles on it and looked great. I was kinda leary on a car with only a 1.4L engine in it but after I took it for a test drive I was very impressed with it. Great pick up and very responsive handling. Now this is the S model but I must say Its nicely equipped and very roomie. I do drive for Uber part time and this car is excellent for just that. IM getting 28 mpg locally and hits about 35 on hwy. to any of you considering this car my main advice is to get the all black interior. which is what I got. For those of you in the Pittsburgh area I recommend Moon township Volkswagon. Very friendly staff all around. even when I called a few weeks after my purchase with a concern and the manager took care of it right away without hesitation. If you're a Volkswagon fan like me look them up for great deals on new and used cars. I've put my first ten thousand miles on it and still loving it every day. hopefully this helps any of you who are trying to decide on your next purchase?

Best car for just about anything and everything

I’ve had my Jetta for a long time. I’m the second owner and I just flipped 123,500 miles. This car is just as reliable and fun as it was when I first bought it. Gets up to speed super easy and incredible gas mileage (I average about 34 city and 42 highway). Being only FWD I was nervous for the winter since I live in northern Utah but it handled the snow and ice like a champ. Taken it on dirt roads and long drives without a single issue, only oil changes every 5K miles. Plus the front seats are very comfortable on long rides. Stereo and speakers sound great! I would 110% recommend this car to anyone who is looking for something with a low price tag, incredible reliability, and fun to drive!

I echo everyone else's review of this car. It is a tremendous value and you'd be hard pressed to find any other car in this class that can offer you the drive, tech, looks and sheer German performance. I came from an Audi A4 and was about to lease another but then I test drove the Jetta 1.8T Sport. It was fantastic. It is fully loaded with tech (including Android Auto) and the dual-tone leatherette seats, 17" wheels, push button start, navigation, Bluetooth, a backup camera, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, piano-black trim, a rear spoiler, fog lights and the bi-xenon headlight push it over the edge. And all for $23K. Not to mention the speed-proportional power steering. Go test drive one. You won't be disappointed.

I recently just purchased my first VW Jetta with Patrick at Volkswagen on Orange Blossom Trail. He gave the up-most professional service and was friendly! Very accommodating in getting the perfect car. I am in love with it! The technology is great and it is SO smooth to drive. The mileage is awesome as well, 40 MPG, it only takes less than $25 to fill up. The perks you recieve as well are great, the customer service at this dealership really know how to help you out!

cheap and unreliable car

car broke twice in 1 year to end up on the tow track on the way to the dealer. one time some heating element burned out, second time some cabling from the turbo burned out. I have owned a Jetta MKV for 5 years and i do regret giving that away for the 1.8T sport. I find it unreliable especially going for long distances. wife had hyundai that never broke once in 6 years. interior is indeed cheap and everything squeaks and rattles after few thousands miles. no more air conditioning in the back although the interior is larger. The windshield is always foggy unless you put the climate on windshield on speed 3. I cannot even say Jetta is the new hyundai b/c is not ever as reliable as a hyundai. update: since the problem with the turbo, car seems to get longer time to crank at cold, and this worsens with every day, so i will be back to the dealer. VW warranty is also a joke b/c they do not reimburse you for rental if your break point is less than 30 miles away from home. I mostly use the car to commute to work.

Good If You Don't Like Driving Much

R.D., 10/10/2016
2016 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8T Sport PZEV 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl Turbo 5M)

First of all, Sport has nothing to do with it. "Sport" is an overstatement. If you performance and an engaging car to drive, get a GTI or GLI. I bought my 2016 Jetta Sport last January to replace my 2000 Audi A6 2.7t and boy do I regret it. The "Sport" model includes the same suspension setup featured in the GLI, fog lights, a lip spoiler and sport seats with more bolstering than your standard Jetta. All good things, but unfortunately the rest of the car doesn't match the persona that Volkswagen tried to get with the "Sport" trim. The 1.8t is a bit of a dog. Not much torque, average pickup and bad gearing. If you care, even in the slightest about performance the Jetta Sport is not the car for you. The five speed gearbox features nice, smooth, short throws. But that's about all it's got going for it. The clutch has an excessively long travel, the engagement is bad and it's feather light and feels like it's pushing away from you. It's also worth nothing that the reverse gear of this car does not have a syncro. What this means is that it sometimes won't engage into reverse properly and will grind occasionally when being put in reverse. This also means that the car can't be put into reverse while moving at all. Something that most cars nowadays have. Throttle application is uneven and not smooth and the turbo lag is annoying. The interior build quality is pretty sub-par, expect plenty of squeaks, rattles and badly pieced together trim. Everything is hard, hollow plastic and everything from the speakers to the headliner will rattle at some point. One of the few redeeming features this car has is that you can get up to 45 miles per gallon highway. That's pretty damn good.

45 mpg nightmare

Chris, 05/03/2017

The engine is a magical 1.4 liter torque monster that seemed to never eat or drink. I regularly got 44 miles per gallon. That was good. 44 could be had at 70 with the Air conditioning on. 50mpg wasn't unreasonable at 60. The trunk is a colossal cavern. I got a grandfather clock into my car. A sedan. (the trunk was closed) Everything that isn't mentioned above ranges from sub-par at best to unforgivable at worst. The 5 speed is great as a means to send the car's fuel mileage into the stratosphere. The shifter linkage may have been found in a box in wolfsburg marked "1975 rejects". The throw to fifth is within a knuckle of the distance to the passenger's knee. The release for reverse sometimes failed to activate reverse. This caused a great deal of unpleasantness. Camera on, clutch out, car goes.. forward. Sometimes the camera didn't come on. The backup camera came on a couple times in 1st. That was amusing. And there's all that torque but nowhere to go, because the traction control cannot be turned off. This causes problems when the car can smoke its wheels easily. If it was raining, the car was sketchy. Traction control would have a meltdown. If it was snowing, there was a good chance that traction control and skid protection's constant freakouts made you and your vehicle a danger to the public. Let's see, App-Connect hardly ever worked. Only the misfortune of driving a 2016 base model made me thankful for the former plymouth designer (I presume) who designed the cheap, monotonous interior of the SE trim - it's black plastic. The dashboard is harder than the bumpers. And it's cheap. the inner door reflectors fall out. often. The mirror control button is counterintuitive, Seat heat was great, and the heater was great. The glovebox was huge. That's good. The dashboard had old school gauges. I like that. Unlike many vehicles in its segment, it looks like a car. The problem is that it's a lousy one. It was a riot to drive in the dry and a nightmare in the wet. they could have spent two hundred dollars more per unit to have a great car. The problem was that VW didn't, and the car is lousy. If fuel mileage is your only concern, this is a winner. If you're going to lease - don't. VW might delete your payment history and report all kinds of strange things to the credit bureau. VW credit has an ongoing computer glitch that is affecting several hundred people, but they won't fix it. Also, the car's mediocre at best. If you're basic, it's perfect. Its failings will be lost on you. If you need a cheap, newer vehicle, don't do it. It's german. It's turbocharged. The parts are expensive. It's not made well. And neither the dealer, VW Credit, nor VW itself were willing to stand behind its product.

Leasing my new Jetta was one of the best decision I've made when it comes to choosing a vehicle. I purchased a 2016 Toyota Corolla back in November of 2015. After a few months of being an owner I realized I made a huge mistake. ( CVT transmission was intrusive, quality was terrible ( many different rattles inside the cabin, sounded like a tin can when closing the doors. etc). The Jetta has the Corolla beat in every category (technology, performance, comfort and last but not least QUALITY! Needles to say, I am very happy with Volkswagen. I would highly recommend the Jetta to anyone who is looking to purchase or lease a new car.

I regret buying a VW

VOLKSWAGEN BUYERS BEWARE: I am going to post this in as many review sites as possible to help out other buyers who are considering purchasing a new VW. I am a 22 year old college student that does not make a lot of money. I used to have an older vehicle that was giving me a lot of problems that I could not afford to repair and keep it on the road, so I decided to chalk up a little bit of extra money and purchase a brand new VW. I was ECSTATIC on my first brand new car! Three months after my purchase, I took it to the dealer for a check up and was told that I have low oil, I asked “how could that be possible when it’s a brand new car?” The response that I was given (by the service writer at Cook VW in Fallston, MD) was “it is normal for a 1.8T VW/Audi to burn 1 quart of oil per 1000 miles. I was extremely aggravated with that answer as that pretty much defeated the purpose of me purchasing a brand new car. I was under the impression that purchasing a brand new car would help solve the problem of me needing to come out of pocket to fix my car and keep it on the road. I didn’t know what else to do except just continue to pay for a quart of oil every month. Every year that I took my vehicle back to the service department I was told the same thing. I felt hopeless. Now, I am up to adding a quart of oil per week on a VW that is only three years old. So, searching for answers, I called VW of America and spoke to Kristen and was told that since I’m just out of warranty, there is nothing they can do. I asked her why they didn’t do anything before I was out of warranty and her response was, “I don’t know, but it’s too late now.” She put me on hold and did some research and acknowledged that there were several of other VW and Audi drivers who experienced the same problem with their new vehicles and even cane across lawsuits that were settled because of the same issue. I then asked, “Well, will VW be able to take care of me also?” She said, “no.” Just a little background... I come from a family who only drives Volkswagens, we have owned dozens of Volkswagens in the last 20 years. Currently, my mom, dad, both of my brothers, and my sister-in-law drive one and I also have several friends that also have them. We have only ever purchased brand new Volkswagens (my dad drives a 2015 VW, my mom has a 2014 CC, one of my brothers has a 2015 GTI, my other brother has a 2018 Jetta, and my sister-in-law has a 2017 Jetta). I am appalled by the customer service and the response that I was given by Volkswagen of America. I feel embarrassed that I was duped by Volkswagen and my entire family stands behind me. I cannot believe that with being the loyal VW family that we have been for so many years, that they could not help a first time new car buyer out on their purchase of a Volkswagen. PLEASE, learn from me, and do your research before purchasing a brand new Volkswagen. $25000 is a lot of money and I am being promised by other manufacturers that it won’t happen with them. Please feel free to re-share this in order to protect future new car buyers from wasting their money on a BRAND SPANKING NEW LEMON!

VW never again!

Transmission is jerky (not CVT) which you won't know after/during your test drive because all you want it to accelerate, right? In slow traffic transmission makes kick down (with the appropriate "boo-m" sound). But I don't care about anything because I'm leasing it. After VW "fixed" recalls my gas mileage went down by 5-8 miles (from 42 mpg down to 33-35 mpg)... Thank you, VW! Comparing to previous versions and years, this 1.4 Turbo engine is too weak. Cars feels very heavy like 4,000 pounds and with no brakes. I think the best acceleration was on 2.5L 5 cyl. (non-turbo) models. Interior is cheap and feel like Chevy Avero (I've rented one before). Design has not changed since 2010. You can't differentiate your car from 2010-2015 unless you are following them and you're reading "TSI". Dealer is not helpful (I love Toyota and going back!!!). Part are not expensive but the service is! Oil changes are $80 and if you do it yourself, VW will void the warranty! If you are iPhone user you need to prepare to connect your phone every time you are in the car. When you connect the phone to the USB charge port, it will reset the connection: phone (music/maps/etc) goes to silent... you need to "find the phone"... it takes about 20-25 sec which is driving you crazy ONLY after 6-month. Bottom line is: At the end of the lease I am going to turn this car in and never get another VW.

POOR RELIABILITY

I can admit that I've made big mistake with this car. Jetta 2016 has problems with Automatic transmission which is performing poorly in traffic (feels like it skips 2-nd gear). It's like you don't need all these 6 speeds in the city! The actual horsepower is 120 Hp. After first oil change its gas mileage dropped by 5-7 mpg (I'm using the same gas station and same route to work). I am assuming that a car comes with different oil type from the factory, with different viscosity: sort of your oil-starter. I've addressed all these issues to the Kings VW in Rockville MD and the service manager told me that "this is normal... we'll get you a new car at the end of your lease". I used to think that reviews with "car spent X days in the shop" or "dealer told me to contact VW" are written by people with no life. I am very busy with mine. Leasing VW was big mistake. I had 2 (two) Toyota (Camry and Prius) and crossed the US a couple of times but no dealer told me to "go and call...". I think all positive reviews here are from VW to keep the brand up which is dead already because of their cheating with many things (this time they just got caught). And handling is not that great.

I have had my 2013 Jetta for 6 months and I have experienced more problems than ever... The air goes from hot to cold to hot... this past weekend with the icing on the cake... I went to turn my car off and the key would not turn.. the key was stuck in the ignition. Took car to the dealer and was told this is not our problem and advised to disconnect the battery to turn the engine off, not true. Car ran for over 6 hours until someone figured out there was a fuse to shut the engine off This car is [non-permissible content removed]!!!!

Do not get the Jetta sport if you just want basic transportation, if you like diving than GO GET THE JETTA SPORT, or at least take it for a test drive and you will be hooked, the 1.8 turbo is amazing, very fast off the line and cruises effortlessly on the highways, I'm getting a combined 30 mpg. This car will out run a Honda Accord sport!! And with more standard features. It really is a poor man's BMW.

Radio looks nice but it won't connect and re-connect to iPhone 6S: connection drops if you connect it with USB cable. If you played music it will stop. Why? Dealer confirmed: you need to re-connect/connect every time you're using charging cable. Ohh... Another complaint is gas mileage: I drive to work on highways but car doesn't get 40 mpg. I am easy on gas in D-mode (not in Sport mode) and RPMs are less than 2,000 (!). (I took a picture this morning with 33.2 mpg after my trip). If you used to drive Ford F250 , this number will make you happy.

Volkswagen rips off consumers, they refuse fixing new cars in worranty and refuse replacement. Car has been in service 4 times and no one did anything to fix it , they only claim they fix it, in the other hand warranty refuse to cover anything even if the car it's still in warranty only 6 months old 10k mil. Stay away , Volkswagen it's a rip off and they also discriminate woman, everyone should know about this before buying a car from them.

Jetta not SAFE - incorrect Digital Fuel Guide

Mildred, 07/29/2016

The fuel gage is always way off. Dangerous distraction in car causing tons of anxiety. The digital gage will say that you have 30 miles in the tank and you will drive 4 miles and it will say you have 15 miles left. Then it gets worse as you drive another mile and it says you have 5 left.......even though you had 30 and only went 5 miles (should have 25 left). This creates the driver to always be looking at the digital gas gage distracted and panicked because the math is so pathetic in these Jettas. There cars are horrible at technology to the point of dangerous, distracting, and misleading. I spoke with two employees at Jetta who actually changed the gage because it was so dangerous and incorrect. Honestly, how did this car pass safety inspections with such a blatant and ridiculous technology problem inside the car (that even employees at Jetta agree is dangerous and misleading)???????

My MPG Intensive 1.4L Jetta at 42,000 miles.......

I have the base (S) Jetta and the reliability I've noted since purchase is just like Consumer Reports shows in their 2016 Annual Auto Issue. My fuel economy - per Fuelly.Com over the 41,000+ miles of ownership is exactly 40.7. This is based upon 60% City 40% Highway driving. The 5M manual transmission and light clutch make for easy driving. Steering no problem either.

I have had this car since February 2016 brand new. I have never had any issues, in fact my brake pads lasted 90,000 miles and probably could have lasted longer but I changed them myself just cause it was years old. I have had very small issues with car since 2016 and these small issues started at 90,000 or after … I have 113,000 on car and I have had these issues since having it. O2 sensor downstream go bad and PCV go bad on top of engine… I have only done all the maintenance myself or had dealer do belts and some other basic maintenance… overall I’m happy with car and would buy another.. only thing that bothers me is dealer charges a hefty tab for labor on doing parts… I love the car and will drive it till it completely doesn’t run … I am waiting for the turbo to be replaced cause that is only part really that is next to go 😬

I loved my Jetta. Had to downsize for financial reasons (previously had a Toyota Highlander) and bought a base model Jetta w/technology. I frequently got 40 mpg out of it. It was peppy and was inexpensive to maintain. I put 165k miles on mine and in 7 years of ownership, only changed the water pump and timing belt as PM. The headlights are a pain in the butt to change but not impossible. Huge amount of trunk space! It was comfortable as well. It now has more than 180k miles on it and still runs like a top (my daughter has since inherited it).

I purchased this car for a work vehicle to save on gas, and I have to say I got a great buy.

This is the 5th car that I've purchased and it's by far the best! I think that the price should be higher especially for everything you get. Literally, the only thing that could make it better is a 10 yr/100k warranty.
