Eco-Turbo-Fun
"one year pre-owned". Good mileage and a better price than new. The economy and fun-factor are very high! My two main concerns are the seat is too short- (seats could also use better lumbar and side bolster support), and the service cost. The service cost is TOO EXPENSIVE. I found a good german-auto mechanic to change the timing belt at 50,000 miles after two dealers told me it would be 500+ for the work. It still cost me 300+. The MAS just went bad at 75000. The part was 300+. Incredible!! If this keeps up, my savings on driving expenses will be quickly overcome by service costs. Overall, a good choice after one year of ownership.
Great Car!!!
We have 121,000 miles on 2000 TDI automatic. The car has truly held up well for us and we plan to continue driving at this pace for years to come. Only a few complaints. Front door windows fell inside doors (replaced under warranty). Was surprised about the need to change timing belt so often (40,000 miles w/auto trans). Front bumper cover too low-will pull off if you park too close to curb. Also a little crowded in back seat. Will buy another one!!!
unreliable dream car
I bought my TDI used with 20,000 miles on it. It now has 120,000 miles. The car is fun to drive and gets great gas mileage but that's all I can say good about it. I have had trouble with A/C 3 times, pwr windows, hardware falling off, engine immobilizer, light bulbs, radio reception, and ... The worst part is the quality of service. I have tried 3 different dealers. I've had 8 VW's over the years but this is the last one!!
VW - Service is Horrid
Fun car to drive, 5 spd, Diesel - real miser on the fuel - HOWEVER, once your warranties expire, nobody will help you. You become a leper. Electric window broke twice to $300 a pop. Electric trunk lock $180, Glove compartment $180. Cheap Mexican trash. I bought a Santa Fe - It Rules.
VERY BAD EXPERIENCE
I raved about my Volkwagen Jetta TDI for the first 50,000 miles, but have been very disappointed since then. The list of repairs is numbing: glow plug relay, glow plug, air flow sensor, passenger window motor, and dash lights. All of these problems have cropped up in the last 20,000 miles. Ready to push it off a cliff.
