Watch Out!

Within the first month, the first window track broke, the EPA emissions light came on, and the trunk latch stopped working. Within the next year, an engine coil had to be replaced along with a clutch, two wheel wells, and 6 more window tracks. Be careful if you decide to own a 2000 Jetta because if you park too closely to the cement parking blocks, you’re bound to lose the front paneling. I’m going on my second year of new-car ownership, and I cannot open the driver-side door from the inside and have to turn of the radio manually upon exiting my vechile. If I don’t the radio will continue to play even though everyone has gotten out of the car.

Great car, annoying problems

Great driving experience, great handling (w/17" wheels). Fuel economy is great as well. There a are NUMEROUS small problems and quality details, and most dealers as well as VW do little to back them up. Anything plastic on the inside you can count on deteriorating, or breaking at some point. Not enough to make me sorry for owning, but VW and their dealers should do more in the way of good will for their customers. Despite being a great car, their sales numbers are sliding because of the issues, although they are small.

nightmare in the form of a car

This car is very unreliable. It's one bad thing after another. First, maintenance. Once one thing falls off, something else will, like an endless cycle. (i.e. plastic paneling, glove box handle, cup holder, and even door cover). then, the light indicators on my dashboard always pop up. like for the airbags, brake switch, and even the wind shield fluid. The epc light comes on constantly, and locks the car in park for hours, even days. It gets really really bad gas mileage. You can only drive about 200 miles until you need to fill up again. I think this car was put together with Elmer's glue and chewing gum. not even sturdy enough to consider super glue. Don't waste your money and life.

I have had my Jetta for a little over four years now, and have been fairly satisfied with the car. The 2.0 engine is pretty weak and goes through more gas than I expected. I believe VW has made a huge improvement in both of these areas in recent years. The car handles pretty well, but it doesn't take long various rattles and noises to present themselves after use on rough Midwest roads.

I have owned my VR6 w/ A/T since July 1999.This car is designed to be DRIVEN!! and believe me I have pushed it to the limits. I love the power and the performance. I enjoy the sound system and the interior lighting. During the first five years, I replaced the battery, a couple of sensors and rear brake pads. My window parts were replaced under warranty and my cup holder is broken. No other problems after 50,000 HARD miles. Now my check engine light comes on more frequently and I have more wind noise. I just had to have a coolant leak fixed and the engine cooling fan motors replaced. So far, the fun and performance of the car has outweighed the upkeep expenses but I doubt it lasts to 100,000.
