Mine is a 2003 GTI 1.8turbo. I hope I have the new metal window regulators, and the new "j" type coil packs. For people reading this if I have the two items listed above I would give this car a 10!. GTI 2002 and earlier have had so many issues with these two problems. Infact I believe VW is doing what they call "a silent recall" regarding these issues. But the good news is....even if it does break your still under warranty right ! Bad news is...will they have the part ? So my overall score would be a 8.5 . Fun to drive, good looks, handles good for stock, fast even un-chipped, and a new better longer warranty from vw starting for the 2002 and up modles.

I have had the car for about a month and have liked it more and more with each passing day. Really has a lot of get up and go, leaves Civics, Minis and RSX's in the dust, which I drove. No question, this has the most responsive engine. The excellent fit and trim of the interior also sold me. The GTI interior looks like an expensive car. The hatchback design allowsevery day use flexibility. everyday use. It is fun to drive yet is versatile - the right size and weight for both fun and work.

This vehicle is awesome, I have driven it almost 60,000 miles and have had very few problems. I have had gas mileage up to 30 mpg, but average 20 mpg. I now live in Germany and this car is a blast to drive on the Autobahn. The only problem I have had was recent and that was the water pump going out. It wasn't bad to replace.

VR6 engine is this cars best asset. Ugly looking from the outside. Just tell yourself its a Jetta when you're in it driving.

This car has given me more headaches than it is worth. My problems with it to date are as follows: 1-radio knob broke and fell off, headrests were missing upon delivery. 2-breaklights stopped working (dealer fixed) 3-front right wheel well fell out! 4-driver side seat was defective and replace 5-passenger seat was defective and replaced 6-on board computer display issues...dealer would not fix unless they saw it happening. 7-battery defective and replace at year two, 20,000 miles 8-dealer gave on computer display, replaced cluster with another yet another defective one 9-back for another gauge cluster... If you buy one, live close to the dealer, you'll be there a lot.
