I love my Atlas!
I looked at several 3rd row seating SUVs before purchasing the Atlas. None of them had the amount of cargo space with a third row seating up like the Atlas did. It had the whitest interior of all the SUVs and you can't beat the headspace of the Atlas.

I like it...a lot...
Okay, so I bought this at the end of October, I initially went in for and SEL 4Motion, but the dealership wouldn't or couldn't get the numbers where I wanted it...so the offered me a SE w/tech 4Motion and the RLine package...looked at what I was loosing, and decided that it was okay. Buying experience was pretty good. Had one issue about 3 weeks after picking up the car...the big silly sun roof cover got all caddywampus, brought it in for repair, turned out one of the doohickuses that kept the cover on track had broken, and caused it to get all wound up in the gears and what not...long story short, they replaced essentially the entire sun roof, except for the glass. They gave me a little Jetta thing to drive while they ordered all the parts and repaired it...that was fun to drive and great on gas...back to the Atlas...aside from the sun roof issue, everything else has been great. Already knew the gas mileage was not going to be great, but better than I was getting in my '15 Yukon XL. Acceleration is great, the adaptive cruise and other safety features are not as intrusive as others have indicated, at least in my experience. It decelerates reasonably, unless someone cuts me off, off course if that happens, I am also going for the break pedal. Lane departure can be a pain if I want to cut someone off, but it is manageable. Sound system is pretty nice, entertainment center is reasonable and easy to use. All seats are comfy, easy to get too...and the cargo area is huge with everything folded down. The "turn the car off when you stop" function takes a bit to get used to, sometimes if traffic is heavy I will turn it off, but once you get used to it, it is pretty nice. Good looking car with great lines, the RLine package helps in that regard. Only thing that raised a question mark over my head was every light on the vehicle is LED, with the exception of the fog lights. I have not taken a road trip with it yet to see what kind of mileage I can get out of it, just bombing back and forth to work or the store or whatever, but the mileage has been around 20 thus far, which I like...the only thing I miss about my Yukon is the size of the fuel tank, I am filling the Atlas up once a week.

Change name from Atlas to Worthless
Delivered new with multiple problems. Knocking front suspension. 2 days at dealership to reassemble front end. Chattering wiper blades. Replaced and still chatter. Delivered new with hanging driver’s door seal. Dealership had to remove whole door from body to replace. Radiator leak or hole at 3,672 miles. No sign of any object going through grill, headlights, bumper, inner fenders, transmission cooler or ac condenser. All those components completely shield the radiator. All had to be completely removed to access and change radiator. VW America would not cover under warranty even though many other complaints nationally of same problem. It cost us $802. Dealership stated they greatly underestimated amount of labor. In the future they would charge Atlas owners $1,600 for this job. We got Atlas back, drove 3 blocks and check engine light came on. Back to service department to remove air from system. Worst and most expensive vehicle I’ve ever owned.

Excitement...to Annoyance
With two young boys, I had been eyeing a three row SUV for quite some time as I wanted some more cargo room, and a third row that an adult could fit in. I had looked at the Pilot and Highlander previously, but the look and feel of the Atlas sold us when it came to purchasing a new car (at the end of our lease with a Hyundai Santa Fe Sport) in Feb of 2018. In the beginning, mostly all good things to say. Rode well, infotainment system was decent, and the cargo room was/is great. About 7 months in though, the issues started. First, we had an issue with the battery where it completely died on us after idling for (maybe??) 10 minutes in a parking lot. I thankfully had a mobile car jumper in the trunk that got us back on the road in a few minutes. But, the battery needed to be replaced - at about the 6k mile mark! Then, second, we had similar issues to what some have reported here, in regards to check engine lights going off. One of which, once you look up the meaning, says the engine could fail imminently, so take it in to service immediately. We did so, and were told everything was good. Just drive away, its a faulty sensor, YOU WILL BE FINE! Third, and this is the latest, the rear windshield wiper has been faulty on two occasions. The first it completely SNAPPED OFF the back of the car. There was a slight build up of ice on the rear windshield, and since the car is super smart, once the ignition when on, the wiper automatically tried to wipe, and SNAP. Got that fixed at the dealership "under warranty" but only on our second trip back (the plastic cap over the back hinge of the back wiper came off this morning) were we told that it was not covered, and that the dealer had to pay for it themselves. Well, they are paying for the second piece of broken plastic today too. Overall, its getting to the point where we want to dump the car and start over with something new. Unfortunately, I don't think we have that option right now (or else we would)!

Great size - TERRIBLE vehicle.
Purchased brand new 2018 off the dealer lot. 12 months in I had a coolant leak - no repairs or findings on this & was told this is 'normal' for the vehicle (head shake, not normal) - sensors keep going off. 16 months in the car stalled while in motion, dead battery. Had it towed to the dealer - sat in the lot for 2 weeks while they tried to 'locate a battery'. Battery has been replaced & car is now running again. When I asked what drained the battery or why it died ' we don't know' was the dealer response. The dealer/service techs also told me 'they're flooded with these vehicles, VW will have a mess on their hands & my dead Atlas was sitting next to 7 others with the same problem, in their lot'. Reassuring & comforting knowing I am not the only one with these problems (sarcasm) & when talking with VWCares (don't even waste your time with these people) they have no problem allowing their consumers to drive these faulty vehicles - with no explanation or solution to these seemingly endless problems. VW you SUCK at taking care of your consumers with fault vehicles that are brand new, run/get out while you can with this car.

Great value/great style/great vehicle
My wife and I bought our Atlas in Jan 2018. We’ve had it on several trips and gas mileage in hwy driving is 26-27 mpg, overall it gets about 23mpg. The interior is VERY spacious, comparable to some full size SUV’s. The interior is nicely laid out and very comfortable. I’ve read reviews that said it is underpowered, don’t believe it without driving it. Our vehicle has the V6 and it doesn’t seem underpowered at all. I’ll concede, it’s not going to win a NASCAR races but it has more than adequate power for us. We bought ours to have more room for our grandkids and it’s turned it to be the perfect choice!

Extremely Happy with this car
Came from a 2016 Explorer with too many issues at only 72k miles. The VW Atlas is way more roomy, has much more comfortable seats, looks better and was way more affordable.

6 months in, mostly happy.
For the price this car can’t be beat. And because it’s a lease I’m not too worried about the longevity— I wouldn’t haven’t purchased it because VW has such a bad rap. The Atlas is a great family car, and not too precious to beat it up a bit.

I love my Atlas!
Such a great suv! It handles like a car but has the room of a truck. It is stylish to boot! It is comfortable. I sat in third row and even felt comfortable there. Gas tank size and mpg not bad but I wish were better because I take a lot of trips. Bumper to Bumper warranty is awesome and piece of mind. Have 40k miles and no major issues. If you or someone in your family is shorter you might want to get step rails and/or the trunk assist feature. Overall, I love my Atlas!

One problem after another
We’ve had the Atlas for a year now. Here are the performance factors I don’t like. Car is very wide and seats are low, hard to see the passenger front when parking. The safety stop feature is probably the worst feature, when parking if there is a sign or tree in front of the spot the car slams on the brakes. The steering assist in lanes is annoying, I feel like I’m fighting the wheel from moving on it’s own. We’ve had quite a few problems... battery went bad, seat belt buckle light/chime wouldn’t go off even with belts buckled, window wash fluid holder leaked blue stuff all over our drive way, the rear passenger door wasn’t tight enough and we could hear air coming in while driving. Each one of these repairs took days to a week to repair. VW offered no rental car, very inconvenient as my wife drives our 2 boys around to all of their appointments. The dealership did at least pay for a Uber to take them home. The car is made out of tissue paper, every minor thing leaves a dent. We bought the car because we loved the interior comfort and room but regret it now. What we like about the car is the room inside, great stereo system and good infotainment system.

So close but you missed the mark!
My wife's 16 Kia Sorento was totaled though it looked better than any of the vehicles in the 5 car pileup. She loved the Sorento it had everything she wanted and more but we wanted something a little larger. She didn't like the style of he Traverse which I was hoping she'd get so I pointed her to the Atlas. The Atlas is bold and more truck looking than most SUV's in it's class. It's comfortable in all 3 rows and I'm 6'2" 275 it's not easy to pull that off. The convenience and tech is all there. It still turns heads a year later and they're everywhere. The acceleration isn't bad on the V6 model I think after a couple of software updates they did during service. Aside from mediocre highway and poor city fuel economy. The "flywheel" or something makes an annoying grinding sound when you turn the off Atlas. Worst yet most people don't realize it does it when you take off from 1st to about 3rd gear, you cannot hear it from inside especially listing to the radio. I've heard it with the radio off, when other Atlas drivers go past I've heard their's doing the same. They said it's a manufacture defect that doesn't affect the mechanics of the vehicle so it will not be recalled. The deal had the nerve to pull up another brand new Touareg to show me it's a known issue on that particular engine. They can reproduce the sound on most Atlas and Touareg models. It's embarrassing especially in a parking garage or any place where the sound can echo off the walls. We never valet my wife's Atlas and no way in hell I was going to give VW more money to get the Q7 when they won't fix her Atlas. On to the Kia Telluride SX it's basically a big Sorento and it looks fantastic. If you get one that doesn't make the grinding sound you've scored a good overall SUV, since the one with my name on it does make the sound and no one at VW is wiling to fix it they get a 2 star review.

This car loves the service department!
Be careful and consider other car manufactures. In less than 3000 miles its been in the shop 2 times for the same thing. I know it will be back for the 3rd time. I just traded back my Toyota Rav and the check engine light never came on in 3 years of ownership...the V Dub every other week and we know it will go in again

Having a great time
We are the second owners of this car. We purchased it with 13000 miles, and have added another thousand in the last month. Couldn’t be much happier, we are getting between 20-28 mpg. We have three boys just under six foot, and they fit just fine. Could have more power but it hasn’t been a problem. We live in CO and still don’t regret the power available. It could use more storage in the front. The seats are firm but no complaints after two 300 plus road trips.

2018 SE w/Tech & 4Motion
I was a bit hesitant to buy a first model year car but needed a new ride. Fortunately, I bought one that was built a bit later in the model year (Late May of 2018). 2 years and 23K miles later, I have not had any issues with the car. This thing is comfortable, spacious and looks great. The car is unique in that it is one of the 2 model years that has a 6 year/72K warranty so not too worried about issues if they do creep up.

Battery
VW Atlas 2018 ,SEL Drove to shopping center, after shopping started the engine the warning an my dashboard lite up with the Information that the battery was low. Trying to start the engine the only noise was a clicking noise. The battery was completely drained. Called the service manager about the battery a was told that this was normal for a battery being 3 years old. I told them that I read about problem with the stop and go features and batteries draining was the issue, I as informed that s few complaint on the web does matter and there is no problem with VW battery.
Decent Spacious SUV
HUGE space including 3rd row with good head and ample leg space. Decent luggage space with all three rows up. Comfort levels are comparable with other SUVs. The V6 is underpowered. I would rate mileage as fair. For the 2018 model back then it is loaded with technology. I would not rate it as sporty. With competitors offer more for less buck, it is definitely not value for money. If you need something HUGE then Atlas is the one for you!

Perfect for larger families
We have 4 kids, 3 large boys so needed something with a big enough third row to accommodate growing kids. A lot of 3 row mid size SUV’s do not have an adequate 3rd row but the Atlas is big enough for 7 adults with a decent trunk space. We came from a Honda Pilot which is the exact same dimensions but the Atlas feels roomier and the trunk is even a bit deeper.

Buyers beware not a safe vehicle Atlas 2018
The sales GM @ Volkswagen initially fed me all this crap. You can call me directly for any issues and we want to ensure that we take care of you and the car due to the issues you have faced especially after spending so much on the car. He no longer returns any of my calls. Words cannot describe the appalling customer service from this dealership as from Volkswagen corporate. I purchased this vehicle on 11/3/2018 and it has been at the dealership for a total of 4 weeks and a few days and still no resolution on the car. I picked up the car today after almost 2 weeks in their possession and was told that the car drives as designed. In addition they said that they drive several other cars and they all drive the same. Issues with the car is that is keeps drifting to the right when you hold the steering wheel straight they have done a wheel alignment and still does the same thing and we have been told it drives the why it was designed i also own a 2016 Ford SUV and it does not do that we also test drove a 2019 Atlas from another dealer and it did not do that so how can the dealer and VW engineer tell me it drives normal. They play games by not providing customers the necessary paperwork when you drop off the vehicle to them. My car has been dropped off 6 times now and they have only provided paperwork for 3 appointments. Take a look at the video and see if a $55,000 car is meant to drive like this. The only solution from Volkswagen is to disable the lane assist, seriously you gotta be kidding. Do yourself a favor and #donotbuyaVolkswagen .
