2020 Toyota Camry
I am a Mechanical Engineering project manager and owned several Toyota Camry's, starting with a 2003 when I was in college at 21. I also previously drove a 2019 and currently own a 2015 Camry LE with only 60,000 miles. As a Navy Veteran a rep from Toyota, in their US branch, let me test drive for six months the TRD model and write a review. Since I can't write the full report I will … write what i like and what I dislike the pro's and con's.
The first pro that is noticeable is the 2.5 L engine comes with TRD-Tuned Suspension, like in other models. The mid sized sedan, in the TRD has a nice sportier look. The Cons
Compared to the Camry LE-the gas mileage is good but not great. I like the upgraded 3.5 L engine, seems like it has more power than the previous generations however, I still will put it in the good but not great category. I average the speed limit in Las Vegas and in So Cal and you get 21/31 city highway, compared to the more gas friendly LE model, which will get you an improved 28/39 MPG city highway.
The price tag is also alarming, without any upgrades, it will set you back $31,000, compared to the LE, which is reasonably priced at $25,000, a $6,000 jump in the price tag is significant. Caveat, keep in mind this is without any upgrades or paying for registration in your state. At that price, I can get a good used Luxury Lexus ES 350, the luxury model of this car, and put in the same 87 gas. With a price tag of over $35,000, one can easily purchase a luxury mid sized sedan, slightly used say 2-3 years at 30-45000 miles max, for the same price. If Lexus/Toyota is not your cup of tea, other luxury model sedans to consider, for American Lincoln MKZ/Contenital, Cadillac CTS/XTS. Believe it or not, you can find a nice lexus ES 350 or a BMW 5 series only a few years used for the same price as a new Camry TRD. With a few of their upgrades, such as rims, protective paint, Toyota Camry floor mats, and a few more, the price tag can bump up to to over $35,000. For $31,000 as is, even with a few discounts, if you are a vet they give $1500, which will almost take care of registration, one can find a luxury mid sized or sports sedan for that price tag.
Design-I will say that this is neural, for once Camry has a passing design but again for more luxury and upgraded features in the interior, you are going to feel the pinch in your wallet and that $31,000 price tag will creep to +35,000. For $35,000 you can find a very good slightly used, luxury mid sized sedan, SUV, diesel truck etc.
