Tacoma Tuff
I have a 2001 SR5 with a 5 speed and 2.4 liter motor. I have used it for work everyday I have had it. I have routinely overloaded it to the point it has sat almost to the floor and yet it takes it day in and day out. I actually blew the transmission at 59,900 because of excessive loading and drove the truck to the dealership. The dealership said you don't have any gears left they are gone where is the tow truck? I told them I drove it here and they simply didn't believe me. Once that one major repair was done the new trans has taken even more abuse and the clutch only has 195,000 on it for day to day hauling and the occasional red line shift just for fun. What a great truck!
227,000 Miles And ZERO Repairs
I have owned this truck for 5 years now. I bought it from the original owner with 204,000 miles and it has been flawless. It took me a long time to find a Tacoma because of the rust issues with the frame, but I found mine with absolutely no rust on it. If you can find one in good shape it will last forever! It still runs and shifts great; I just drove it 5 hours nonstop with no hiccups an got 23 mpg on that trip! I would drive this truck across the country tomorrow! All you have to do is keep up on the maintenance. I just did the brakes all around, tires, and I will be replacing the struts and shocks soon. My Tacoma even has the original timing belt. It is a non-interference engine, so if the belt snaps nothing happens, it just can't be driven. I have free towing, so if it ever breaks I'll just have it towed to my mechanic. After 227,000 miles the seats still are in excellent condition. The seat foam is still in it's shape and the fabric super sturdy. The crazy thing is after 5 years of ownership I can sell my truck for about the same price I paid.

I love this truck
I have used this truck extensively offroad, mostly desert driving. Swapped stock shocks (I ruined them very quickly) for Bilsteins, huge difference. This truck performs extremely well offroad if not driven beyond its limits, yet still maintains a quality ride on-road for a 4x4. The only problem I've had is the cruise control stopped working around 40,000 miles. I have also used it since new as a tow vehicle for a desert race car and even though beyond capacity, am still impressed with how well it tows. The rear leaves are starting to sag, but only because of overloading. I plan to keep this truck forever. Toyota fan for life!
Good little truck
It's a great truck for the work commute. About 22mpg. Then, when I need it - hauling furniture, groceries, lumber, propane, gravel, yard work, etc. There's some room for stuff behind the seat, and while a full car seat would be tight, my 4 year old fits well in a booster seat behind the passenger seat. I was also surprised to find it can haul U-Haul's largest trailer straight on the bumper, just had to buy the ball and lights. I've kept up with the maintenance schedule and have only had to replace things I've actually physically broken (advice: don't drop a tree near your truck, it may hurt the paint job.)
Love it
Bought it used but with transferable warranty, great right? Never had to use the warranty. Bought a fully loaded Tacoma, off road package, tow package. I put duel exhaust on, cold air intake, throttle body spacer. This truck has more power and better fuel mileage now. Don't do much off roading but the times I have I was very impressed. One time I was looking at a piece of remote property in the winter on a small single car dirt road with nowhere to turn around, I literlly slid down a hill hoping there was another way out, nope. The 4x4 shot me back up the hill with ease. I really love this truck. I have never had a single problem with it in 5 years.
