Engine Issues
It is embarassing to drive this car on cold mornings. When it is below 40 degrees out, the motor sounds like there is no oil in it. It taps so loud that people look to see what the clatter is. Toyota corporate claims that this is normal but they will not put it in writing. This vehicle drives like a luxury car. The motor is peppy. The handling is responsive. The moon roof squeaks a lot. the dealer allegedly replaced something but the visible components still had wear marks after the alleged replacement. I think they greased it. it was quiet for about five months. There is also a loud cracking sound from the front end that the dealer has not been able to find (under warranty)
2003 sequoia, perfect for the family
We had a 2000 durango and traded up to this. It's a different class of vehicle. Leather, sunroof, full-time 4wd. This truck has the same displacement v8 as our durango (4.7) but it's gutsier AND gets better mileage. We're at 20k, averaging 17+ MPG in mixed driving. Can keep it in 4wd full-time and not worry 'bout it. We live in "rural" Mass. where we get a fair amount of snow, and need a truck.

I love my Sequoia.
I have enjoyed owning my Sequoia. I have had it for six years. The only problem I have ever had with it is the rear window not going down. I really don't use it much so to me it is no big deal. It is not great on gas, yet I like everything else about it. It handles like no other vehicle. It hugs the road if you really drive it and respect it like it is big and heavy nothing compares to it.
Best car for road trips
This car is a strait up beast. An SUV with a 4.7L v8 and 3 rows and 4WD center diff lock with 4 low. If you think this is a mom car, then yes, but its also a beast. When you go on a road trip with this car its ready for what ever is coming, nice and spacious with leather seats on the inside but ready for any snow and mud. OR be able to pull a heavy trailer!

Solid Rig
July 2019 Update: Still going strong. Have had to get exhaust leaks patched but otherwise that's it since first review. I bought my 2003 Sequoia in 2013 and still have it. In that time I've only had to replace two o2 sensors and some minor front-end suspension component. Great, reliable vehicle. Quiet, too. 3rd row seat not horrible and accommodates two adults or three kids okay. Crummy gas mileage, though.
