The Y.A.W. rate sensor went out on my family and I while on a road trip. Very dangerous. This is a recall item. This really put a dent in opinion of Toyota. Fuel economy 12.3 avg. this vehicle will break you if you use it as a daily driver and need to drive more than 100mile per day. The 2wd model is basically a big gas guzzling car with out any capability off the smooth paved road. I got mine cheap at $10,200 and 96k miles and only one owner so I guess I am going to keep it for awhile since it is such a big car and we all can pile in, but as soon as I can I am going to look for an FJ cruiser and not look back at the sequoia.

We've loved the room and comfort of the Sequoia but we are spending a fortune on gas! It has been a very reliable vehicle for us but we've had a few problems. Air conditioning in 2nd row stopped working, VSC went out, front brake rotors warped, back latch broke. Spending 2K/year on maintenance.

First of all, I am an experienced mechanic. My wife wanted this car for the kids, she likes it. When I drive this truck here are the things I find wrong with it: right rear blind spot, you have to fold down the right rear seat to see your blind spot and to reverse, brakes issues (2 sets of pads & rotors in 1 year) suspensions is very poor, interior is cheap, as far as engine and transmission goes Toyota's quality is there. Other than that I would rather buy the Yukon or Tahoe, it's a much better quality truck thank the Sequoia any day. If you have the money to spare, then buy the Landcruiser of which Toyota put a lot of quality and it's day and night compare to this piece of junk Sequoia

I purchased my 2001 Sequoia in Feb 2001 and currently have just over 127k miles. During my ownership i have never had any mechanical problems (thank God) and have had only a few cosmetic issues( had to replace a/c adjustment knob, rear hatch door latch, driver's side seat adj knob, and currently rear window not working/not sure if i will fix)Overall, it has been very reliable vehicle and still attracts plenty looks and complimentary comments to this day(20 in. chrome rims/ silver vehicle). Getting ready to invest a lil money in areas that are beginning to show some wear(exterior window moulding & seats .

Sequioas have had some A/C compressor issues, Tranny issues, iterior issues. All of which have come and gone. I just wanted to say that the VSC kicking in when pulling out in traffic when one of the rear wheels slips a little bit is the biggest complaint. It can't be turned off without being in 4WD The Gas Mileage: 16.5 average city/hwy Brakes: 3mm left after 54k miles so about 25% left. Also what no one has said that I can find is that it really excels in 4wd on windy gravel roads - that is when the vsc really does help - and it is a WHOLE lot of fun. I could not go half that speed with my miata without spinning out.
