No More HelenaPrius!

Wife's car, she traded in her Prius. I'm a big guy and had major problems getting in and out and riding for any distance in that car. Took it to Helena, MT to a family wedding, and I could barely walk for two days after we got there and after we got back. Hence the Title to this review. Other than the size, the Prius was a great car for my wife and she loved it. Very economical. She traded for the '19 Rav4 hybrid. This is a great car IMHO! Much more comfortable to get in and out of and to ride in. Haven't taken a long trip yet but I am looking forward to one. Hybrid has great acceleration and handles well. If the reliability is as good as the Prius we had, and I have no reason to doubt that it won't be, I will be extremely happy about this purchase. The engine and road noise is much quieter than our Prius, and even though I have to bend my head down to get in and out, once I'm seated the passenger and driver's seats are comfortable for me. We have a steep driveway and had problems getting up it in the winter after a snow with our Prius. The AWD of the hybrid Rav4 should take care of that problem we had with the Prius. So far, ( just over a week) we are very happy with our Rav4. And the overall mileage so far is 38- 40 mpg!

$13,300 mile update..... on Limited

Yes hoping to have this vehicle for a long time!! Purchased a 2019 Hybrid Limited with Tech package. I've owned the vehicle now for several weeks and have 1200 miles including a current long road trip. So far happy! I did my research before buying as I test drove the RAV4 Gas model (before the Hybrid came out), the CX-5: sporty but too small inside the cabin for my requirements and a CR-V: I liked the CR-V but stayed away due to the gas dilution issues I heard about on forums. I finally test drove the Rav4 Hybrid and knew this was the vehicle. I main deciding factor was the MPG as living in S. California and commuting with high gas prices. Also the SUV was a plus for the outdoors. It hit all the requirements on that end. I have to say it was quite a process buying one as the demand has been absolutely unheard of before from multiple dealers not having any in stock or available on order for weeks/months. I bought through USAA True Car and was able to find a dealer in Oregon to do this but only one in the Portland area. I had been searching for the "unicorn" with a Limited fully loaded and the weather package with blue print but no dealer was able to secure one in the time line I needed so eventually went with the Silver Sky Limited that was on the lot. It had that the tech package but I still wish I had the weather package for the ventilated seats (hot weather in California) and the heated steering wheel if heading into the Mountains. Vehicle drives smooth and has great acceleration in traffic or going up hills in the Mountains. I was averaging close to 38-40 combination of city and highway and about 33-35 hauling a lot of luggage and with a Thule cargo box (with about 120 lbs) so satisfied with the MPG. Ride is comfortable inside with good visibility along with all of the tech that is offered. I really like the Radar Cruise control, blind spot warning, and the Apple Car Play with the Entune Plus is great. The JBL upgraded sound system sounds just "ok". Seats are comfortable with plenty of room. I will say on the long road trip after about 8 hours it is uncomfortable but I think any car would be. Climate control works great. Cargo area in back is also roomy. We packed plenty of luggage and gear on a drive from Portland to San Diego and had lots of room. I also had a hitch installed and did some local towing of a 5x8 Uhaul and had no problems in town with power. I made the right choice for this vehicle. I highly recommend it for a small family needing the MPG and the ability to do some adventure/road trips. I will say one negative is the gas filling shutting off early that has been noted on some forums. My vehicle does shut off early on filling up but only with a gallon or two gallons to go. Toyota has not released any recall on this. So watch forums and updates on this but I think Toyota has a winner so far on this vehicle. **** UPDATE AT 13,300**** As others have mentioned on this review the gas tank is weird. Ever since I purchased the vehicle I was only able to get in at the most (on empty 10 gallons) and a range of 400 miles. Well short of the advertised 14.5 and 500+ miles. Overall I do like it. Drives fantastic on S. California Freeways and mileage has been 40 MPG overall since I started filling the vehicle with mostly highway driving. I've been logging in fuelly. I will say I'm now looking at a 2020 Hybrid Highlander, only because of space. I have a family of 4 and have found it a challenge if picking up the grandparents or friends etc. If it weren't for the gas tank issue (which is an issue that Toyota needs to address) I would give it 5 stars. Due to that issue only 4 stars. Comfort in the passenger seat is also an issue on long road trips and I would give 1/2 point off for that but can't here. ***** 10-31-20***** I decided to trade in our RAV4 at 14000 miles. Went with a bigger Highlander Hybrid and much happier with the room and size!!

Cannot Fill Gas Tank 2019 Hybrid

Good fuel economy but I cannot fill my gas tank beyond what seems to be about 3/4 of a tank. The gauge needle goes to "E" but drops very quickly (after a couple of short trips) to the 3/4 mark. Very frustrating. Why isn't Toyota all over this? Just bought the thing. So much for Toyota reliability! Not happy, to say the least. Headed back to the dealer to waste time on my day off....UGH.

Overall I love the MPG 43 average, nicely designed, handling is great. Now the bad news, can not fill the fuel tank to full, only will go to above 3/4 mark. So a tank will give you a 420 mile range. Toyota dealer replaced the sending unit and the kept the vehicle for 3 days for further testing. We got the Rav4 back, same issue unresolved, dealer clueless. Searched the web, found a lot of 2019 rav hybrid owners with same problem, their dealers are clueless too. Have contacted Toyota corporate, got a case number, suggested by other frustrated hybrid owners. FYI there is a recall coming September 6th, possible power brake booster failure on the hybrids only, which according to the NHTSA can cause the VSC to malfunction. I should have waited until the bugs were already fixed by Toyota. Update: unable to fill the tank past 7/8ths. I think I was one of the first to post this issue in late August. Toyota has agreed to repurchase my RAV4 Hybrid full price less mileage I drove the vehicle new until I first brought it to the dealer to look at the fuel problem. Read Rav4 world regarding this on going issue. Everything about the RAV4 Hybrid is awesome except lower mileage range per tank than advertised.

GREAT CAR, BUT GAS TANK DOES NOT WORK RIGHT

This is a good car, but Toyota has a gas tank issue with this car that they have not fix for. Please wait to purchase until they can get the gas tank fixed. Gauge does not work and it is hard to fill. No idea when there will be a fix - as Toyota told me. Please do not purchase until this is fixed. The ability to put gas in a car and know the level is pretty important. They will not tell you this at the dealer.
