This is a good car. It could be a great car. Location Location! Placement of buttons on the dash are inconceivable. EV, sport and Eco get blocked if you have a drink cup int the holder! + Small Cup Holders: Good luck finding a thermos that will last you a good 4 hours that will fit in these cup holders. They don't exist. With only 2 cup holders and a bad design to boot. Gas cap: The lever is located in such a strange area - the drivers door has to be open to pop it open. Cargo Space: WHY WOULD Place an enclosed pocket all along the width of the entire area? Not only does this block loading anything flat, but it pushes anything such as boxes etc towards the back door. Housed changing tools right in the middle of the car! So you literally have to climb half way into the cargo space to grab them. The side worked fine inside the wall of the older models. Reclining Seats: They don't go all the way flat on this model. Windshield Wiper Speeds: Fast mode not sufficient for heavy rainfall. During hot humid days, the defroster doesn’t work at all. The last thing I want to do is turn the heat on. Yet, this is the only way to clear the windows. Hybrid in ECO helps in a pinch to make it to the station if you’re running low on gas. Comfortable ride: Just wish the bucket seats were made for big American butts and not Japanese butts. Don’t get me wrong I love my RAV4 but these small design fixes would make a big difference in comfort, especially for long drives. Updates: 10/2/19 they listened and redesigned the newer models! more cup holders, better placement for eco,ev,sport buttons and removed the tire tool kit storage completely so now the back seats lay flat and loading boxes is a breeze. My next suv will be a Lexus.

The only down side of the electronics are the Entune system, is not updated and you cannot give a command asking about your address book because it ask you to repeat and not do it,called Toyota and they told me to give this command: "get destinations" didn't work, it understands other commands but not for an address book, frustrating after I spend a lot time imputing all the info, another thing is when it takes you to a destination it tells you that there is a road construction, which is not; was in construction 14 months ago,so be careful don't trust the directions it may take you for a different road and you will waste your time, anyhow if you are away from where you live and not familiar with the area you won't know,in a week I am going to Canada I will use my Garmin 2589 that it will tell me name of streets to turn, and is updated with new roads and constructions,to end this for sure I won't buy a Toyota with the Entune system,Gas mileage is very good at 70 miles in highway give 36.2mpg and if You go 55 miles it will give 37.1mpg which I am a very happy camper,SUV feels solid and very quiet inside the cargo space is ok because is not the same level when you fold the seats because of the hybrid battery, not a big thing I can live with that dash functions very easy to understand and reachable,no light in the glove compartment ????,when you lock it with the remote key NO HORN beep , a buzzer sound but very low so if you are 50 feet away you won't hear the lock sound,to finish this review,I am very happy my RAV4 XLE HYBRID 2016, will trade it again in the future without the Entune system or first I will test it if is updated because you don't want to be distracted looking for an address in your address book. Update1-25-17 Center console doesn't have the spring when you close it, so it slam real bad be careful when kids are around, that could break your fingers, first time that I see that and I owned more than 20 cars, the XLE version DOES NOT have the spring to hold the console when you close it, the limited version has it, dealer can not do anything because that is the way they did it, why toyota did it that way, to save money? when somebody can start a class A suit if a kid break or lose one of the fingers, that should be a recall...The navigation center screen is in a position that you can not see any information during bright days is washout by the sun, that is a big thing since you can not see any info when you are driving so if you are relying to use the screen to see directions for any destination be careful you won't be able to see anything , the navigation application is very low at its maximum so if there is any conversation inside car the volume alert to exit is very low, so you might miss your exit is you are not paying attention. When you go over a pothole the rear suspension is weak because you could feel a heavy bump in the rear maybe the battery. The best part of all is the gas mileage for this SUV,after a year and 1 month we are happy.I check another one to update my vehicle to a new one(used to change every 15 months) but the same issues that I mentioned before still there the important is the navigation center position and the washout information needs to be corrected in order for me to trade cars,so far I am looking to see if another vehicle from a different company fill its shoes Update 1-25-18 Still almost everything the same as above, with the news , that when you use a car wash the roof rubber mold ,get loose and pulls up,be careful not lose it after a wash, took it to the dealer and they say most of the rav4 do that, they pushed it back ,no recall to fix the problem???? Update 7-26-18 Mostly no changes, only that battery in the back it sounds really bad,I am still saying suspension is too weak for small potholes ,my friend has a non hybrid rav4 and that does not happen the ride over small potholes are smooth

My First Hybrid

Easy to drive, easy to get in and out, quieter than previous RAV 4 models. It gets roughly 32 mpg driving in the metro San Diego, California area. I did a round trip from San Diego to Houston and got about 31.5 mpg overall. It's a comfortable, dependable and secure vehicle with a lot of great interior comforts. My biggest issue with the vehicle is the lousy GPS system. There are no free updates to maps. To update the maps (that are usually already two years old when you get them new) you have to pay Toyota the price of a high-end Garmin GPS that has free maps, traffic updates and up to date weather. Why put low-end GPS systems in a high-end Hybrid when you could put a Garmin GPS into the car that would last a lifetime with FREE updated maps, real-time traffic and weather reports. Toyota for some odd reason refuses to put GOOGLE Auto app into their Entune Infotainment software. This might mitigate the crappy entune navigational system. The voice recognition is useless also with their system. It cannot understand the commands and is about 20% accurate if it does think it understands what you are asking. I am always confused why Japan, with their high tech innovations, put the worse performing infotainment and GPS products in their cars. It boggles my mind. Another problem with the infotainment system is the angle of the infotainment system screen. It's angled so that light from the front and side windows reflects onto the screen basically making it difficult to see the GPS or camera systems when the sun is out. A very poor design feature in an otherwise almost perfect SUV hybrid. I tried anti-glare glass screens and it doesn't help. Also, there should be an audible beep for the blind spot monitoring when you signal and there is a car in your blind spot. Most all other cars have this, but Toyota decided not to put that feature in for some odd, unknown reason.

I'm loving this car so far. I agree with the article's review. A few nitpicks that could make this car so much more awesome... (1) You can pre-program the seats for 2 drivers. It would be nice if you could also pre-program the side and rear view mirrors with those same buttons. (2) I love the birds-eye view but it is not to-scale. The car on the monitor is about 1/4 smaller than it actually is. If you're looking at the lane markings in relation to the car, it looks like you have more space on each side but it's less than that in reality. (3) The all-weather liner for the cargo is not available for hybrids because the battery pack is raised at an angle. But I bought the cargo liner anyway. These are all "nice to have" maybe on the next version of this car. I've been getting about 35-36 mpg per tank (freeway driving 5 days a week, city-driving 2 days a week). I love it and recommend this car to anyone. Update after 14 months of driving: We recently took the car on an 1800-mile roadtrip. The car was very comfortable. My only complaint is the arm rest on the driver's door is too low for me (I'm 5'9). So I either have to rest my left arm on the window sill at a 90 degree angle or not have any arm support. It doesn't sound like a big deal but when you travel 40 miles/day for work, you notice it. The breaking is not as strong as I would like, it's probably due to it being a hybrid. Other than these two, I'm still very happy with it.

First time in years that I actually enjoy driving. Compared to the 2016 RAV4 that I owned, this car seems to come from another dimension. It is incredibly solid, comfortable, smooth, fuel efficient, and has great technology. This is the hybrid model and my only complaint is that the batteries steal too much of the Storage room in back.
