Satisfied with hybrid XLE with convenience pkg

1500 miles so far. Good mpg combined highway and city, about 37.5 mpg. Close to 45 mpg when driving mainly on highway. When driving below 15 mph and gas engine is off, vehicle emits a noise , which sounds like something is non quite right. Apparently this is a vehicle proximity notification system. For the user who is not aware of this, it seems like some thing is wrong. Slight vibration when gasolene engine comes on . Navigation seemed to freeze up on one trip on the highway. It did not respond to any of the controls until engine was turned off and started again. Apparently the entire entune system can be reset by holding down the power switch on the unit for a few seconds. Breaks feel a little spongy, but not a major issue. Best features are the safety sense package accident avoidance system. Lane departure with steering assist and automatic breaking and speed control with radar cruise control works well. Also detects if both hands are not on the steering wheel. Overall, like the vehicle.

Best Toyota I've owned so far

Have put on over 8000 miles on my RAV4 hybrid limited. Dash is simple layout and easy to use but has plenty of technology for my taste. With the Jbl sound it's one of the better if not best stock sound In its class. Back seat fits two car seats and small child but don't expect to fit three adults for a long ride. Do get road noise more than others but mainly just a humming. Power lift gate motor did go out but was replaced promptly. Have noticed slight vibration when gas motor kicks in. Have not been able to test in snow so unsure of how well the awd works in snow but have had it on low maintenance sand/dirt road that it did very well on.

2016 RAV4 Hybrid

Owned for 1 month. Drives good in normal mode. In economy mode too slow to respond to inputs. Have not tried sport mode enough to comment. Very quiet interior when driving normal, but floor it and rush of sound. Not unpleasant but engine noise. I had a CR-V and the RAV4 is much faster, you can feel the electric motors power on. Heating/cooling works great with minimal input to operate. Heated seats are nice, controls located under dash and hard to see on indicator. Lock/unlock is very good, you only need key on you. Open by grabbing handle, close by holding finger on handle. Safety controls are very good and they all work. Lights are excellent with automatic high beam feature. This is a very good SUV. Calculated MPG, 3 tanks of gas 36.6, 34.1, 34.6. Now the bad: Entune Radio with amp. and subwoofer does not have any power. Very little base sound, equalizer set base max. Equalizer balance front to back can not be set correctly, front speakers on or rear speakers on. Took in to Toyota because of no power and no base sound, they said this is normal ???? Navigation is not that good, I will use a Garmin. No glove compartment light.

I wanted to love the RAV4 LTD Hybrid

But I can't. We have owned the car since January and have already experienced a major malfunction to the front camera safety system (needed to be replaced over two days) and now something really grating on me (so much so that we are taking a loss and returning it given how much highway driving I do): the regenerative braking (motor?) SQUEAL that occurs ONLY between about 50 and 65 mph at low volumes when the brakes are not applied and high volume when brakes are applied. I complained and the dealer took me out in the ALE Hybrid and I heard the same noise but MUCH quieter. It is best likened to a loud squeal that I get is the regeneration braking in the electric motor but really should it be so noticeable that it feels like nails on a chalkboard? So, I want to love this car but I can't. This problem was acknowledged by the dealer but Toyota itself is telling me this is normal even though the head of the dealer's service department who has worked on hybrids for 20 years thinks it is too loud to be considered normal (he considers the ALE noise more reasonable). I have seen this mentioned in a few places as asides in the forums but while I get that it may be normal why do I NOT hear it in my friends' Prius? Or a Highlander or Camry hybrid? Since Toyota is considering this normal, I had no recourse but to live with it and hope some day they address it (I have case numbers all over the place) or sell it and move on from the RAVs and Toyota forever in disappointment. The bump of the battery and the fact that the seats do not fold back flat has also become a drain on cargo space, especially the dog crate which no longer fits. Mileage has been awesome. Comfort and road noise seem the SAME as my previous RAVs (but may also have to do with the Limited's 18" wheels). In general, if you can live with the noise, go for it but I would not say the car offers any value and personally wish I waited to see what they address if these issues if any in 2017.

I purchased a new 2016 Rav4 Hybrid in the XLE trim. I added factory remote start and all-weather floor mats. I was trying to choose between this more "responsible" car and my dream pickup truck. The adult in me decided that I need to grow up and get a practical car, so I got the Rav4. I must say, this car has been pretty fun and amazing to drive. They use a nice blend of new tech and old school stuff...I didnt get the tech package that has blind spot monitoring, but the XLE does come with the special side mirrors so you can see your blind spot just fine the old fashioned way! The way they handle the GPS is clever too, you actually run the app on your phone and just project it into the display screen. Since 90% of people probably would just use their phone anyway, this just makes it so much easier and cheaper! This car really changes how you drive too. Its like a fun game to try to hit that eco mode where the engine switches off and you are 100% battery power. I find it is optimized from 0 - 20 mph and right around 40 mph. I can cruse for long distances without using any gas at those speeds, if you are careful. You sorta have to drive like an old lady, but with practice you can really improve your MPG. Two complaints: 1. with the battery pack in the back of the car, going over a pothole or railroad tracks and make it sound like you are driving in downtown Baghdad. There are some very loud and rough rides if you dont go slow enough. 2. the breaks take getting used too. it seems that the car is either in go or no go mode...once you hit the breaks nothing really happens, but press just a little further and WOW its like you are slamming on the brakes. I have gotten used to it now (three months in) but it will take some getting used too. Update 10 Months in - the connected app that I liked before for navigation is now getting sorta annoying, so I don't use it. For the iPhone, in location settings that app is either on 100% of the time or off. That means that you have to enable your location services stuff on your phone and have it track your movements every day. I always have my location services set to off unless using, so I don't use the dedicated navigation app anymore. It would be possible to just turn on location settings whenever I get into the car and need navigation, so it isn't really a huge deal I suppose. Also, the navigation app doesn't report upcoming turns like google or apple maps does, where you see on a map when you are coming up to your turn. The app just reports 1,000 ft, 500 ft, 180 ft, etc...unless you are used to that it could be tough to know when you are coming up to a turn or an exit. Again, probably not a big deal but its worth knowing that there might be a bit of a learning curve if you are inexperienced or new to driving. Also, there have been one recall on the trunk latch - not a big deal as Toyota will replace it for free but its something to know. I'm sure that if you buy a new 2016 model off the lot they will already have it replaced. All in all I'm still loving this car. The sky blue really stands out and the sharp styling is pretty cool looking. Sure, I wanted a pickup but I find this 100x more useful and practical in everyday usage.
