I purchased the 2013 Prius C 4 with 15k miles for 13k in 2018. I drive 850 miles nonstop twice per week at about 85 MPH up and down I-10 and I-99 from Sacramento CA to Phoenix AZ. Sometimes in 120 degree heat through the Palm Springs to Phoenix AZ leg. AC usual at 68 degrees and I am cool as can be. Measure MPG in 120 degree heat with AC at 68 degrees with cruise control at 85 MPH, I get consistently 40-43 MPG which is excellent. When I'm in CA cruising at 70 MPH with a lot cooler 80 degrees I get the rated 50+ MPG consistently. The drives take on average 13 hours non stop and the Prius C-4 handles well at speed and on the rough CA freeways. Great acceleration, passing, and braking. At 60 MPH I get 60 MPG. Before my Prius I was a hard core old school V-8 guy, the Toyota Prius is an engineering marvel! I am a Ph.D. Physicist who designs rockets for a living and I think the Prius is a rocket scientists dream car.

2013 Prius C two - 100K miles & going...

I bought my 2013 Prius C two new over 3 years ago. So far it's not been to the dealership for anything than oil changes/tire rotations/scheduled maintenance. Although I did wear out one set of tires & just had 100K mile service completed (drain/fill coolants). It gets great gas mileage 52-54 mpg summer - high 40's in winter. I don't baby it too much... & I drive 50+ miles to work each way on a state hwy (60 MPH posted speed limit) thru lots of rural villages (slow down or stop in them). I love the fold down rear seats, because I can haul quite a lot. It holds four adults reasonably comfortably (maybe 200 miles tops). The interior finishes aren't made from top end materials, but its a commuter vehicle, not a luxury car. I'll likely buy another in a few years when this ones tops 200K+. It might not be an exciting or overly fun/sporty car to drive - but it has plenty of electronics that make you more conscious of your energy usage & engages to want to play the energy savings game as you drive.

A Fun Little Car

I was a Prius sedan owner for 10+ years and was waiting for an AWD version (still waiting). A few nonessential systems started to fail that would have been $1500+ to replace, and there was this adorable little C on the lot with 19,000 miles on it. The interior feels a little plasticky compared to the full-size, but it has a better sound system and a fun, sporty ride. I'd compare it to that of a Mini Cooper: low-riding, road-hugging, but getting an average of 49mpg with a fair amount of highway driving. The price was great and I like the car more every day.

People shy away from the Prius C because they like the bigger, normal Prius better. But you save almost $10k on the C brand new! It really does get 48-50 mpg combined street/highway driving, for us. It has great acceleration for such awesome gas mileage. The engine doesn't whine and scream like many cars in its class. This car is a joy to drive. It has the reliability you would expect from a Toyota (awesome!). And it holds more than we'd expect, both in passengers and cargo. Our only disappointment so far is the low resale value after just a few years. We'll just keep it, gladly.

The C gets great gas mileage! It can seem like you don’t hit the city mileage, but if you are driving short 5-10 minute trips, you won’t. The car uses gas to warm up. I routinely beat 46 mpg in the summer on the highway. You will see a dip in the winter, but i still clear 40 mpg routinely. I live in northern Indiana and the car is also pretty solid in snow. You have to realize you can’t go through deep snow, but in almost 4 years of ownership I have never gotten stuck. I have never needed anything but oil changes and new tires at 44000 miles. The only thing I don’t like about the car is the slow pickup when pulling out on an interstate, but besides that this car is reliable and fun to drive. I am about 6-3 and the driver side is a little cramped on long trips, i fixed that problem by getting some seat extenders. Update: Car is still going strong! Moved to the west coast and drove cross country with my dog and loaded the car down with a storage bag on the roof. Probably maxed or exceeded the recommended weight on the car, but it performed well. It lagged some on the inclines through the Rockies, but still made it. I don’t drive as much as I did before and let the car sit, killing the 12V battery, but after jumping it with AAA, it is performing perfectly again. I recommend driving it once a week to avoid that. These are fantastic cars, hopefully my luck continues with the C!
