A year later
I can't help but notice we are in February, 2020 and Toyota is still advertising the 2019 model. So, I'm 13 months into this vehicle and discovered the tires designed for/with it wont stop in snow, so I had to buy (for $1k) a whole new [Michelin] set - which work great, BTW. My single most common complaint still surround the electronics. The Nav system is for crap and, to connect my Iphone's Gooogle Maps app [sound only] and its phone function to the car's speakers, I have to quickly double tap the START button followed by the brake/press start function. So, for long trips, I just reconnect my Garmin. Of course the car's clock is still disengaged from the infotainment systems clock app, et al. After 13k miles, my mpg performance still falls short of posted EPA data by 20%. My service manager still just shakes his head and tells me there may be a software update in the future.

Good car but...
As many others have commented the navigation and voice recognition from Toyota is almost useless. On some occasions it has taken us on detours which added 45 minutes to our trip. Looking on a map afterward it was totally absurd. If you carry any small cargo in the rear, be aware that the third row seats do NOT fold down flat. The net result of this is that small things constantly fall over as they don't sit flat. May not seem like a big deal but it is a real nuisance for me being in sales. My samples are ALWAYS scattered all over the cargo area. This is my third Toyota and I'm still unhappy with their transmissions. I was told this year's transmission was computerized and solved all of the previous lagging acceleration after shifting. It has NOT. ALL still true. Voice recognition is still amateurishly annoying.

Can Not Recommend
We are a Toyota family with never a problem except for this vehicle. Pros: ride, interior comfort (except passenger seat), styling. Cons: * Bad transmission... slight (momentary) hesitation when accelerating. Dealer says this is "normal". Taking car in for fuel pump recall. If this fixes acceleration problem I will amend my review. * Passenger seat (leather) slopes down in front causing passenger to constantly have to reposition themselves. Power is only for front/back and seat back. Our 2013 Highlander has cloth seats & they are much more comfortable over extended driving distances. It is frustrating when taking a new car in with an obvious problem (transmission). They drove the car, admitted the hesitation, and all they can say is "that's normal". Or, as a second comment: "This is a learning transmission."

The comfy Toyota Towncar, or taller Siena
Just got my for about 2 weeks. Love it! PRO: Drove a Lincoln Towncar many years ago for a long time, this Highlander reminded of that, but with much better handling in tight parking lot as well as open highway. It's quiet, comfy, bright inside. You can acutally enjoy the music on highway. Feels like in my living room most of the time while driving. Have to keep myself alert so I don't doze off. The BlindSpotMonitor (BSM) is a vital feature for me, so I no longer need to turn my head back in busy traffic for lane changes. The smart cruise control works most of the time, best on open straight highway without many exits and merging traffic. The dashboard controls are mostly straightforward. The info system touch screen are usable when not driving. Entrance stepping height is just right. Sitting position is great and the driver's power seat works great. Heated seat is very helpful in the morning. The slipt open lift gate glass is another very useful feature that I love. Lots of USB sockets! Multi-zone AC works great and extremely quiet. Lots of cargo space behind the 2rd row and tons more if they are folded. CON: Navigation is useless especially now I can use Google Map! Never like voice control of any type. The smart cruise control works but with limitations: it's pretty harsh when speeding up or slowing down. It has problem on curves and ramps and split sections, especially the off ramp straight side is on the left while I am following a car along the curve to continue on. The smart cruise control will stop and think I should follow the car straight ahead stopped at the off ramp. The Headroom is surprisingly, quite limited. I am only 5'9". Only got 22.x mpg on mostly hgihway driving, quite far from the sticker's 27 mpg highway. The weather and road condition are very nice around here, so it can't be for those reasons. It's bland look makes very hard to find in a crowded parking lot: it just looks like so many other cars and SUVs, big and small. Bottom Line: Quiet, and easy family town and country mover with grace and style. I think Toyota is not about love at first sight, but more a happy long term relationship.
