2019 Black LE Plus AWD

2019 Toyota Highlander LE Plus 4dr SUV AWD (3.5L 6cyl 8A)

This is my second Highlander LE Plus (other was a 2017). I have owned 8 Highlanders since 2004. I’m in sales and usually keep my vehicles for 3 years or so. My previous Highlanders included a 2014 XLE AWD and a couple of Limited models prior. I chose the LE Plus model in 2017 and saved $4k over an XLE. Yes, I lost a sunroof, Navi and keyless go, among the major features, however, no regrets. The Le Plus has many key features like a leather wrapped wheel, 3 zone auto climate, a great sounding HD audio system, power lift gate and power driver’s seat with power lumbar. I prefer the all day comfort of the LE Plus cloth and softex seats over the hard leather in the XLE. Options on my 2019 include body side moldings, rear bumper protector and all weather mats. The Highlander is an outstanding vehicle; comfortable, quiet, reliable, secure and safe. Plus, the resale value is unbeatable. I bought my 2019 in August and it now has close to 9k mi. It’s been flawless. As I write this, the 2020 model is out. The media raves that the 2020 is the best looking Highlander but I disagree. It looks like a Subaru B9 Tribeca. The interior is nice, though, there are some features engineered out in the 2020–no more rear hatch window (great feature for loading in tight garage), uninspired painted alloy wheels in base L and LE instead of sharp machine finished alloys on 2019 models. Power lumbar support is now only a feature of XLE and higher trim models. Also gone is the Mercedes-like notched shift gate. 2020 is value engineered in some respects. Also, knock on the front door sheet metal of the 2020 and 2019. Wow, the 2020 sheet metal seems much thinner- is that possible? There are several 2019 models on my dealers lot as of 2/25/20. If you’re looking at the 2019, be sure to shop and get a great deal—you won’t be disappointed. If you plan to keep your vehicle a long time- this vehicle is uber reliable and engineered for long reliability. My wife kept her last Limited for 11 years.

I have owned every type of vehicle and this by far is my favorite. I replaced a two year old 4 runner with the highlander and I love it. The ride is comfortable. The features are great. The height is easier to get in and out. The hands free system works well. I have no complaints. Seriously I love this suv.

Toyota Needs to Improve the 2019 Highlander!

2019 Toyota Highlander Limited 4dr SUV (3.5L 6cyl 8A)

Recently, purchased a '19 Highlander Limited. Some things I wished I had checked out, first. The Hood is VERY HEAVY to raise. Especially for many women and senior citizens. The better half could not even raise the hood to check under it, if smoke was pouring out, etc. TOYOTA COULD AND SHOULD HAVE INSTALLED LIFT SUPPORT STRUTS FOR THE HOOD. If that hood fell down on someone working under it, it would KILL them. Many other models do, like Kia for one. The infotainment screen is not as up to date as my older sienna van. In the Van, you can have the digital speedometer in the MID screen along with the showing the miles to go on you gas tank, gas mileage, etc. That is one of the many things I have discovered lagging on the Highlander. Maybe, my update it...at a future date. Still working on the Nav. etc and trying to get it to work correctly. I like the seats, but it could use more adjustments, like raising them up more as in height. The tray under the dash is great...but it needs to be a surface that things do not slide all over the place as you go down the road. Your phone is way across the other side of the SUV, out of your reach - when you need it. Everything slides on it. I like that the rear deck lid has a back window that you can open separately. That goes away in 2020, I am told. It still has a locking fuel door on the gas tank, unlike the 4runner. The doors open wide so you can put in child car seat for kids and handicapped individual can get into the second row. The ground clearance is good...I drive over dirt roads sometimes. Told that the 2020 is lower. The oil filter is easy to change - it has a cartridge filter - which I like better than canister filters. The v6 engine has enough pep for me... the gas mileage is still to be determined.. so far, my results are lower than currently advertised. I will take it on a trip and see what the results are. I find it hard to see you gas mileage on the infotainment system. Oh, It has a CD player...last of its kind, I think. It has roll up sun screens on the 2nd row side windows... which help those passengers. Gotta tint the windows and sun roof and deck window... to cut down on the heat. Also, keeps the window glass intact if you have an accident that breaks them. Glass does not go flying around inside the vehicle.

Typical Toyota Reliability. A Keeper.

I have 1K on a '19 XLE and Toyota apparently created a software update for the Nav system, as mine works fine. Two issues: Nav screen and apps are hard to see due to reflection on the screen many times, and softex driver's armrest puckers/indents where I rest my elbow. Steering is just a tad sensitive for my taste, but I've gotten used to it. And in ECO mode, acceleration from a stop is slow. Set it for POWER mode and leave it there. MPG is surprisingly good for an engine that is not yet broken in. Getting 24 to 26 in mix of local and highway driving. I expect to keep this HL a long time. I have previously had three, one FWD and two AWD, and all were rock solid reliable. No mechanical issues whatsoever.
