Below expectations
Own a 2019 XLE. Been in the shop 3x for excessive wind noise. It sounds like a window is cracked. Very loud whistling. We were told that is normal and Toyota is aware of it. Front seats feel great initially, but after a few hours on a road trip, they become very uncomfortable. Needs more cushion on both back and bottom. Interior is disappointing. Any scratch on the black plastic leaves marks you cannot buff out. Cheap. No apple car play? Entune is an issue as well. Expensive vehicle for all of these issues. This is our first Toyota, not sure there will be another.
Major Letdown
Well. my spouse has wanted a highlander for a long time and we decided to take advantage of the end of model year discounts on the 2019. We previously owned Hondas and a recent CPO RX350. Purchased an AWD Limited in September. Two weeks ago noticed spots on garage floor. The vehicle just logged the 2,000 mile mark and it's dripping trans fluid like a leaky faucet. This is beyond belief. Goes in the shop 01/07. This is not going to be a pleasant experience.

I love my Highlander XLE!
I received a great price at only $34,000 out the door. If you are looking for a good deal, now is the time to buy!

Better than average but very little cargo space
We were looking to buy a new SUV and wanted one with as much cargo space as possible. Taking a tape measure to dealers' lots and measuring the distance from the back of the seat to the tailgate I found that the Highlander was smaller than the Subaru Outback. Handling is good and performance when needed to accelerate quickly to merge with freeway traffic is also very good (unlike the Honda Pilot). I also learned that the GVWR for the Highlander is exactly 6000 lbs. making it not eligible for a Section 179 accelerated depreciation which requires a weight greater than 6000 lbs for the vehicle to qualify. Even 6001 lbs would have changed the tax status of the vehicle. I bought the 2018 Chevy Traverse which has the most available cargo space of any SUV sold in the USA for that year and it has a very smooth ride, great handling, up to 27 mpg on the highway and 22 mpg around town, and it is compatible with current electronics from Apple and Android. After owning and driving the Traverse for the past year I am convinced it was the right SUV to buy. It performs perfectly and is the best designed and engineered vehicle I have owned over the past 50 years. I was able to buy an upright freezer and a 40 gallon water heater and to put them in their shipping boxes into the back of the Traverse with a lot of room to spare. The Traverse truely can take the place of a pickup truck in many situations.

Hesitate/stall
I bought the Toyota Highlander and I am sorry for that. Consumer Reports said it is a good vehicle, but no one mentions the stall factor. It is really scary when I step on the accelerator and the auto does not move. I complained to the Toyota Dealer. Their response was "that's Toyota, learn to live with it." Next time I will buy American.... I know they work right. Update: Had vehicle 11 months now ---- still stalls. Probably going to get me killed. Toyota finally recognized that they have a problem and sent a Recall notice. That was months ago. Problem still there. I checked with the Dealer's service department About the factory "fix". Seems that they had only gotten parts to fix 6 vehicles and all came back..... problem not solved! BUY AMERICAN !
