What a car...
My Dad, Brother, and I went to buy this car on memorial day of 2009, when the car was just launched. It is the Limited Hybrid Model with the 3.3 Gas Hybrid System. We Traded our 2005 Toyota Sienna XLE Van. We got 15,000 off through trade in. We negotiated for 30 minutes and got the deal. 33,400 final total with everything. Regular MSRP for this model was 48,400. We ABSOLUTELY love our Highlander. We have had it for 8 years and 152,000 miles. With very little maintenance, just from regular oil changes and a few alignments. The most we had to do was a catalytic converter, and transmission line. None the less the car handles great, rides smooth, feels awesome, is comfy and is overall a great investment and great car.

What a piece of junk
We owned a 07 highlander hybrid and it was solid as a rock, Sold to friend with 160 k and he's still driving with no issues. Thought we would update to a 10 model. Researched well and found one with 80k, one owner, dealer serviced regularly. Have had it almost 2 years and it's nothing like older model. Seems cheaply made- engine is noisy to point that it's embarrassing to be near it when engine cycles on and off. Gas mileage is poor, best is about 24 mph. Had to replace suspension bushings at cost of over $1200. Mechanic said factory bushings were a joke- replacement aftermarket ones are 3 times the size of factory. Still has play and clunking noise in front end.Check engine light comes on and off- code points to a evap canaster/pump- part cost upwards of $1,000. Now rear hatch glass will not open with button- another expensive repair. Paint finish is poor- seems like it chips and scratches just by looking at it. Have always owned Toyotas but not after this one. Update, Traded in for a used 2017 Kia Sorrento SX. Been very happy with the quality and performance of the Kia.

Still early, an initial grade
Purchased w/ Nav, JBL system and rear seat DVD. For the price you would think you bought a Lexus, but overall very smooth, comfortable ride. Hybrid system is great, only 2 weeks old and getting 24mpg w/ mixed driving. Power tailgate is a nice feature along with the stow away middle seat. 3rd row isn't the best but certainly livable for adults for short durations. Fun to drive? Eh, it's a SUV/Crossover. How fun can it be? If I wanted spirited/fun driving, I would be in my '06 TL. Overall a very nice upgrade from our '01 Pathfinder LE.
Fuel Economy is same as regular highland
Very disappointed in the 'hybrid' aspect of this car. Have reached the 5000 mile mark where the dealer said it would take that long for the car to get used to my driving, whatever that means. Anyway, I am still averaging 18 MPG on city streets and only get above 20 when I go on the highway, which is only about 1/week. It's definitely NOT worth the difference in cost, go for the regular!
Great commuter with flexible utility
I've been eyeing and researching this vehicle for a while, and Toyota's recent financial incentives have finally made me buy it (was able to get 0% / 5 years). The experience (2 weeks now) has exceeded my expectations in almost every category. The only "downgrade" is less cargo space compared to an older van with removable seats I drove before. Daily drive: 80 miles (25 miles on town/arterial roads at 35/55 mph, and 55 miles on freeways at 60-70 mph). The average gas mileage on 3 tanks so far is at 25.5 mpg. Excellent commuter with utility flexibility; great for moving family of 4 with a large dog (German Shepard) with folded 3rd row. When grandparents come to visit, we all can still fit.
