Used 1999 Toyota Camry Consumer Reviews
Toyota Camry
Excellent automobile, excellent value.
This is Toyota, What more we need?
Bought this used car at 111K for $4.15K as my second car for wife's schooling. The previous driver is a student, never did the services correctly, I did the 90K service and timing belt change, etc. Changed 4 tires. Now still needs to get all the suspension system (approx $15K) replacement. In any event, Toyota is pretty smooth, quiet and reliable. It will never die on you if you take any sort of reasonable care. I trust Toyota, I trust my car.

Best used car I've ever owned.
Great commuter car. I owned the car for four years and really took it through the paces and it never gave me any problems at all. It's not a Porsche but it's dependable and the mileage is decent.
What a Joke
Sure seemed like an excellent used car at the time I bought it for my mom, exactly one year ago. At only 63K miles it smokes when cold (valve stem seals), clunks on small bumps (strut mounts), all the painted plastic has faded (bumpers, mirrors, door handles), exterior door handle falling off (cheap plastic). I should have spent thousands less and bought American. Extremely disappointed in this smoking rattle-trap. There are TSBs on the problems we have, so these are not maintenance issues - I regret ever buying this car - can't sell it without doing a valve job at ONLY 63K MILES! NOT a solid car.
Lemon 1999 Camry
I have had numerous problems with this car. The check engine light keeps going on and off. Numerouse things have been identified and "fixed" at very high costs. It still does it. The brakes needed replacing at 41000 miles, At the same time a front tie rod needed replacing even though I live in the city and do not drive on rough roads. The CD player skips. I bought the car for its quality, but they seem to have left that part out.
