Toyota surprised me Completely!
Well I have to confess that after driving BMW and Audi for the last 16 years and I still love bimmers. I have taken a real shine to my Toyota Avalon Hybrid. I purchased mine in June 2013 and funny things is I went to the dealership to test drive a Toyota Highlander Hybrid. I had been researching Hybrid vehicles and SUV's for a couple months and was convinced that Toyota had the most robust and reliable Hybrid technology on the market. (True Statement). I have receivied several compliments on my my avalon and so far, its been quite, efficient, reliable, and pleasant to drive. Very Impressive Toyota! Buy one and you'll think twice on BMW, Audi, & Lexus. 42.9 so far ! Fantastic !
Luxury Toyota
Still love the experience of driving this car on today’s roads. It is just so engaging. From June to September made 39.4 mpg negatively effected by short runs to the store. I wish it could go say upto six miles on battery(even two would be great). These trips really bring the mileage down. Three weeks of no short trips resulted in mixed driving and over 43 mph. On flattish roads you can expect to beat 50mpg. The interior leather is showing undue wear. It’s quality poor. No major issues so far. Cannot believe how old this is getting. Mileage keeps improving with age. Very happy with the smaller motor backed up with battery juice. Seamless. Will now run upto 50mph on battery alone at times. A true luxury ride.

One high cost of ownership issue is shocking.
This is a nice well designed car. Dealer only maintenance at high cost has been designed into the car. The Toyota Entune Navigation system is very nice and sophisticated. Unfortunately it has been designed so that absolutely only a dealer can update the map set at a cost of $550 per year. This is nice car but it has an extraordinary high cost of ownership if you use the niceness designed into it in this system. In my usage this even exceeds the cost of the amount of gas I am theoretically saving by having a hybrid each year. This seems like a shockingly avaricious ongoing maintenance cost designed into the car by Toyota to pander to its dealers. It offends me enough that despite my affection for all other aspects of this car I would not buy it if I had know this, I will not buy another.

Toyota Avalon Unlimited 2013 Hybrid
I purchased a Toyota Avalon Unlimited 2013 Hybrid February 2013. We have driven 3,740 miles and we are happy with our purchase. We have been averaging 37 to 40 miles per gallon. In March 2013 we drove to Phoenix, Arizona. We traveled 1566 miles round trip on 41 gallons of gas. We got 37 to 40 miles per gallon of gas. Drove 75 mph and 80 mph when the speed limits allowed it. Had plenty of power to zip in and out of traffic. The ride was comfortable and smooth. Great performance! Fun to drive! Have 48,500 miles and still running great. Averaging 38 miles to the gallon and will get 40 miles to the gallon. Have $56,000 and still running great. Bought new tires at dealership. Still averaging between 37 to 38 miles to gallon.
