I see a LOT of complaints about the 2023...

This is NOT the 2023 and earlier Model 3. I don't know why people are posting about that version in the 2024 review. I'd driven the 2022- and I hated it. The 2024 All-Wheel has been shipping ONLY since THIS MONTH- June. So no reviews on Tesla 3's from before June are remotely relevant. I am a longtime BMW driver- I've had 28 of them, from sedan to SUV to sports car- some 2 wheel, some 4 wheel, some M. This NEW 2024 Model 3, a totally different car to the 2023 Model 3, is absolutely fantastic. It is the best sports sedan I've ever driven. The upgraded stereo is much better than BMW's upgrade (you get a better stereo with the dual motor versions- so this is NOT a review of the single-motor "base" model", but rather the dual motor). I also drove the "Performance"- and there is no reason to get that model (unless you plan to go to the track). Car & Driver just tested the Extended Range Dual Motor, and got 0-60 in 4 seconds flat (Tesla says 4.2- they got 4.0). That is as fast as you need a sedan to be- and I'm a die hard car guy. As with any electric, the power is immediate and by the time you can breathe you are at 60mph, breaking the law... I purchased aftermarket shades for the roof glass- I live in Vegas- and they popped right in and fit perfectly- cost: $39 on Amazon. I also purchased a wheel kit- lug nut covers and center caps- and removed the aero covers. The rims look MUCH better at a small cost to efficiency- supposedly about 10 miles on a complete charge. I drive this car just for errands, around town- so, not much mileage- and just plug it into my garage 110 socket. It fully charges by the time I need to use it again. The price of this car (lease of you can- because, who knows what the depreciation will REALLY be!) with the tax rebate was... Toyota-like. Shocking how much car you get for the $. The biggest downside is, unlike other electric cars that still operate like cars, this is a computer. So you have to learn a whole new way of operating the car. There is a learning curve that will involve YouTube videos. The best ones are not Teslas- they have not updated the vids since the prior model- they are the ones by enthusiasts. Example- I could not figure out how to open the glovebox- in desperation I simply said "Open the glovebox"- and boom- it popped right open. Unlike Hal in 2001, the Telsa WILL open the pod bay door. Other things- when I went to pull the plug out of the car, of course it would not pull out. You have to go to the app and release it- it locks in place for many good reasons. I still have a beautiful BMW SUV- my wife's car, with only 6500 miles on it- but it seems primative by comparison. And did I mention the stereo in this Telsa model? Anyway, there is a solution to everyone's issue with the car- there are even a bunch of aftermarket screens you can add to the dash if you can't get used to glancing to the right (several for under $200). Adding the sunscreens to the glass roof is essential if you live someplace like Vegas. They remove in seconds, so I'll take them off in the winter. Look, they don't have their complete "game" on- they are hard to get ahold of, etc- but the showroom/purchase experience is very different. No scent of desperation- and regardless of my feeling about Musk (after all, I have NO idea of the politics of the guy who runs Kia, or Porsche, or BMW- we all know Musk because he has no filter), the people who work in my local dealership are happy. No commissions, no pressure- and it looks like the United Nations in there- very diverse. I'm supporting THEM, not Musk. So all in all, LOVE the car, absolutely fantastic- not for everyone, but perfect for my needs. And we still have my wife's car for road trips. I'm not interested in public charging.... UPDATE: So far, a few software updates have added new cool features! Still just charging in my garage, using a standard 110 outlet. Same minor "complaints"- (1) should have a heads up display, and (2) should have a sliding screen for the glass roof. But for the money- fantastic car. Period.

Just in! Wow, I read that Tesla is offering to add a turn stalk for $350 in China. Once they work out the bugs, I sure hope they give their US customers a similar or better offer. Conclusion. Best car I ever owned (including Porsche, Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes) Tesla fixed or added via wireless updates, most if not all my issues. For example, they added more music apps, allow buttons to change FSD from Chill/Standard/Hurry, gave me a lease buyout option, added rear traffic alert, plus a host of other new features, like digital high beam adjustments, auto shift into drive and reverse, charging stats, and routing options. I enjoy driving it, or, letting it drive me. The steering, acceleration, and seats are the most comfortable for short or long distance. Is it perfect? No, but give them time. No EV or Gas car is this advanced. The remaining annoying features are all on or not on the steering wheel. Namely, no turn signal stalk and the thumb wheel ridge is not elevated enough to toggle to the left or right. Most of the time it behaves like a button and turns other things on or off. So, I’m a very happy Tesla owner, despite what all the nay sayers say. And I was once one of them. =======/ Tesla fixed or added the majority of my initial issues. They added more music apps, The Good. It’s a great car to drive. Acceleration is the best (no one beats me at the light). We took it on a long distance trip and the superchargers worked as planned. The location is always great and never full. Recently added Sirius XM, which I prefer over Tidal and other newcomers that cannot be customized. New backup alert feature and car will automatically start in drive, reverse, or both as needed. Never need to touch the shift. Fun features like Santa mode changes cars to sled and reindeer, and listen to car music from external speakers while washing it. The Bad The latest FSD update allows you to activate from your garage. It's like an old lady backing out, stops 10 feet before a bush, then, turns left when the GPS show's right. It also stops in front of the house on the street when it returns, instead of in driveway. Beta with a capital B. There is also a blind spot in the rear that blocks vehicles immediately behind you due to its high end. The cupholders are way too tight for a simple can, and some of our Yeti cups won’t fit. I tried the new Summons feature a few times, and it was always awkward. Both were in a parking lot. What you can’t control is how other drivers will respond as it backs out. First time, another car also backed out and moved forward, while my Telsa was creeping along slowly. I got an error message when it could not backup or go forward. I had to walk to my car while the driver waited for me. AS* is right. Cool idea but not practical, even with the new distance adjustments. You also cannot switch between cruise control and full self driving without making a software selection from the screen. It should be a button selection but I suspect lawyers are behind the idea inconvenience. The Ugly The lack of a turning stalk is an over-engineered mistake. I've tried all the tricks and mind games, but, try turning right then an immediate left with lots of traffic. It's not easy clicking the blinker when the wheel is upside down. The cheapest component are the floor mats that don’t stick to the carpet because of cheap and small fasteners that aren’t velcro or snaps, or rubber backed for weight. I see Tesla added back the turn stalk to the new Model Y, but say the Model 3 buyer doesn’t need one. Is that a forward or back handed salute, Elon? Bottom Line Overall, I can't think of a better car or app for the money. It's quick, good looking, comfortable seats, great app, excellent charging, fun to drive, and clearly the best technology of any car. Sure, you can buy an EV, but they are just electrified gas counterparts. You drive it like a gas car FSD still can't be beat, despite articles rating Tesla the worst in fatalities. I’ve personally had it try to run stop lights going down a hill. I reported it a few times and it’s still not fixed. If Elon really wants to make his customers happy, fix the cheap floor mat "velco" corners that don't stick, and offer a turning stalk option in exchange for removing all other physical controls we were forced to learn and use. The software updates are amazing and deliver new apps and functionality over the air. It’s like a new car each time. Despite the excellent software and analytics, Tesla doesn’t display monthly miles. Why not? I read about a 10% FSD use discount for Tesla car insurance, so I got a quote. It was more than my insurance for 2 vehicles. No thanks. Meanwhile, I continue to get glares from all the negative press about DOGE-gone Elon. Who’s manning the shop? Resale value is in the toilet due to him. When my lease is up, it’s all his. He can take a chainsaw to it.

The Worst - MAYBE

2023 Tesla Model 3 4dr Sedan (electric DD)

I have owned dozens of luxury cars throughout my life. The standard 2023 model 3 is the worst auto purchase (actually lease) I have ever made. The online buying experience was a nightmare. Tesla is there for you all the way until they have your money, then they are gone with the wind. Everything is done online but you can wait a week for a simple response. The build quality of the car is horrible. Panel gaps, paint issues and more. It’s beyond frustrating. Since there is no dealership to take the car to, your frustration just mounts. I gave up a $50,000 loaded Q3 for the potential fun of an EV. Biggest mistake I ever made. Charging is another issues. I put a Tesla wall connector in my garage. It’s great but cost $1,000 with installation. Tesla does not care about their customers. They hype up the car and feed into the desirability aspects of the Tesla enthusiast. But for the average car buyer, you have to be out of your mind. Stay with ICE until you have to switch. And make sure there is a person to talk to and a dealership to go to. UPDATE after 5 weeks. Well everything I said about the customer service and pretty much everything else remains. However, after 5 weeks of ownership and a massive learning curve as it relates to all things technology and the dozens of settings and all the things you need to figure out, then learn, then implement, I gotta say I love this car. After all the bad stuff, this car is awesome. Most fun I’ve ever had driving a car and the small issues with paint and build quality I’ve sort of gotten over. The car drives like a dream. And the rear wheel model3 standard is the Best Buy for the money by far. I did get the $7500. discount which is what prompted me to begin with. The in the garage charging is awesome. No more gas stations. Love it. Actually starting to love the whole car!

The car's performance and feel are amazing. I love driving this car. Had it for 16 months and still look forward to getting into it. The ONLY criticism I have is the road noise is a little more than some luxury cars.

Material & Build Quality is extremely poor

I recently purchased Model 3 (15 April 2023). After a few days of driving (mostly to groceries and Kumon - no long journeys or high speed rides), On 23 April 2023, I saw a crack on wind shield starting vertically from the center bottom all the way to the center and running horizontally. I raised a Tesla service from mobile app, the Tesla Technician inspected and reported that the crack is due to some kind of impact. I am not convinced for following reasons, firstly, the point of impact (it is on the black portion of the windshield sitting behind the wipers), secondly, barely a chip is seen coming out (cannot feel by running a finger on the impact area), thirdly, I can see some uneven dashboard fittings (seen from inside the cabin) which seems to creating tension on the windshield and be the reason for crack. Tesla has denied covering windshield replacement under warranty. I am pretty sure that even if I get it replaced, the new windshield is going to crack again since it it seems to me a manufacturing defect.
