I did 2 test drives of the 2.5L Sport before going for one. 1st test i was not impressed, i guess was expecting too much for $29k. 5 or 6 wks later i tested one again (after testing all kinds of other x-overs). Decided it was good enough, almost fast enough and above all THE PRICE WAS RIGHT. Steering is lighter than i would like, the rear hatch is finicky when trying to close it....other than that it’s fine. And the colour is a fun departure from black/silver/grey/white. WARNING: the autonomous functions! OMG, straight onto the freeway after purchase and heading home. But what’s happening? Did they put the tires on backwards? Did i get a lemon? The car was veering all over the place, i thought i’d crash :( So after 7 or 8 miles i pulled over and called the salesman. ‘What the heck is going on?’ (I asked) ‘Did you maybe activate LANE KEEP ASSIST?’ Came the reply. WHEW! That fixed that. And on a subsequent outing i began to feel comfy using that function. You can get away with just a pinky resting on the lower part of the steering wheel w/o the car scolding you and cancelling LKA. Coupled with adaptive cruise, it reduces the fatigue factor A LOT. I live in the northeast and i’m trying something different with this car: i’m just leasing for 3yrs, so rather than purchase snow tires and have to put on/take off 5 or 6x over the course of the lease, i’m trying a set of VREDESTEIN QUATRAC 5. All weather tires (as opposed to all season). Snowflake-rated. We’ll see if the tread life holds up. Tires are very quiet, smooth. No squeaks, rattles or malfunctions so far after 400mi.

Transmission Issues

I had a 2019 Crosstrek and put about 21,000 miles on it with no issues at all. Loved the car except for the sluggish acceleration. I got a great deal on a 2021 Crosstrek Sport so I bought it about 2 months ago. I was driving back from Colorado, car has about 3000 miles on it at the time, and out of no where the dash lit up with errors. AT Transmission Oil light was blinking, check engine light came on and eyesight quit working. There was no warning or anything. We had already driven about 400 miles that day out of 600 with no issues. It was very scary. I pulled over for a while and then started the car again. All the warning lights were off and we continued on our trip. We did make it home, but when I took the car in to get it looked at they said it was a solinoid that triggered the error message PO977. I asked them what they were going to do about it and they said I would have to wait for it to happen again. WTF Subaru? So next time it happens I can be stranded in the middle of nowhere. I think I am going to have to take the car back and see if I can trade it in for a Honda or a Toyota. Huge Subaru fan, but this is an epic fail in my books.

Exceeds all expectations

I purchased a 2021 Crosstrek Sport with the 2.5 engine. Power is more than adequate, and Fuel economy is better than advertised. I'm 6'3" and I find the car downright roomy. The Technology is Sick, this car has me wondering why I never purchased a Subaru before. I couldn't be happier!

Can't quit Subaru

This is my third leased Subaru. Every time I shop for a new car, I test drive other well reviewed cars of that year. They're not bad but all come up a little short in one area or another such as acceleration (not bad in Subaru sport mode), handling, ride comfort, quality of materials, gas mileage, and safety. I'll admit my previous BMW was more fun to drive, but not worth the extra money to own, not just buy. People who own Subarus seem to love them.

We have had the 2021 CrossTrek Sport for a week. So far we are getting over 30 MPG in mixed driving and enjoying the extra power (2.5 Liter 182 HP).
