I really like my Scion xA's good gas mileage, Its leg room equals or is better than the Toyota Sienna's. I am tall, it is becoming my favorite.

The Scion xA needs another gear, other than that, I like it. I still get 32-34 MPG at 75 mph, but it could use a little overdrive. The AC compressor seized up and burned up the belt. That shouldn't happen in a year-old car.

This car handles great around corners. Good in snow with snow tires. With back seats down can store a lot. Gas mileage 36mpg.

I purchased a used 2006 Scion xA in February 2022 as a second vehicle as my daily driver to help counter the high gas prices that my SUV was racking up. It had 121,000 miles on it. I live in Pittsburgh, PA which is nothing but steep hills. I wanted the manual transmission option as I feared the automatic would strain on the hills. The body and undercarriage were in very good shape and after tax & title paid just a little over $4,100. What a great value for the money. Pros: Fun, responsive, lots of cabin room, fuel economy, cargo space (with the rear seats collapsed) I read a lot about fuel economy in the reviews but the manual transmission I am able to get around 28 MPG driving daily on very hilly streets. I get about 35 MPG when doing mostly interstate driving. Every 3,000 miles I spend $5 to add Lucas Oil (or Gumout) Complete fuel system cleaner which boosts my Horsepower and gives me about another 3 MPG. Cons: Even after four new all-weather tires the xA slides on wet roads...not just snow. I am a seasoned winter driver who has been driving through some significant noreasters. The xA should be treated with extra caution in wet road conditions. The front tires will spin significantly starting on a hill in wet roads. The only reason I removed a star One of the front two cup holders is located below the power port (aka cigarette lighter) so that if you have anything but a small-sized fast-food drink cup, it will bump up against the cell phone charger, causing it to lean over significantly or force you to remove the charger all together. The oil filter is a bit tricky to get to if you do your own oil changes but completely doable. I use full synthetic oil for older engines when i do mine. Of course if you are reading this in 2023 to buy a 2006 car... the overall quality and reliability will rely heavily on who owned it and how it was maintained. I've had a leak in the A/C repaired 06/22 at around $349. The air is ice cold and the cabin is very cold at medium fan speed and recirculating cabin air. This is the only money I've put into it aside from brakes and tires (which I knew were low at the time I bought it). My inspection was due in December. If you see one they are worth the money in my opinion IF they have been well maintained. Before buying anything though, do your research, get a Carfax and if possible have it examined by a mechanic as if it needed a state safety inspection. Though Scion is out of business and there are no Scion dealers, it is still a Toyota product and uses all the same Toyota parts so that's a plus when you do need repairs. I would by another used Scion based on my experience with this one. Good build quality and high reliability. But, I will do my due diligence. Cheers!

I've been attracted to the Scion xA from the first test drive. It's utilitarian, reliable, fuel efficient and fun to drive. And it's so darn cute! But I almost didn't buy it because Toyota does a terrible job of supplying dealers with cars that have both a 5-speed transmission and side head/torso airbags. Finally, I found one with the side balloons and bought it. I'm glad that I did. The first tank of gas delivered 35 mpg overall. I knew that Nissan, Honda and Toyota (with the Yaris) will debut similar little hatchbacks next year. The spy photos of those cars revealed they lack the elan and classy look of my xA. I'm sure that the xA's cache', and it's excellent fuel economy, will ensure it retains a high resale value.
