Great little Mazda masquerade
I recently bought an endangered species (economy compact sedan) Scion iA, known in the rest of the world as a Mazda2. With the Scion packaging, it came with all the amenities I would want standard. Speaking of standard, I sought mine out online to have a 6-speed manual. (Another option dwindling in the USA). Like most smaller Mazdas, the iA/2 is an engagingly fun drive. It handles much better than the BMW i3 I previously owned. It’s very well built, much moreso than you might expect for its modest price tag, comfortable on long trips, and gets close to 40 mpg on highway trips. I drove it from Colorado to the west coast, about 1100 miles right after i got it, and loved it. I truthfully would prefer a hatchback to the sedan, but the later hb versions of the car imported under the Yaris iA name only came with automatics, which to me would kill the main appeal of this car. While it isn’t fast, I find the driving characteristics a lot of fun, you definitely have to keep the engine revved if you’re in a hurry.
