Used 2002 Saturn VUE Fwd 4dr SUV (2.2L 4cyl 5M) Consumer Reviews
a vue
I have owned the vue over one year, it is reliable and gets good gas mileage, the interior design(cup holders poor) I like the design and it is stable in curves. The rear seat is very roomy, but the cup holder gets in the way. The plastic inside looks cheap, and the back of my front seat is scratched from moving lumber etc. Seats lifted at beginning(foam showed),only bandaided problem at dealership.
Windsurfing trip in ;the VUE
I received my VUE Sport the end of May, the sport has almost all features avail (sunroof, cd player, power windows, doors, mirrows ect) for $16,995 total. The ride is very smooth, at 75 mph there is NO wind noise and the cruise control maintains beautifully up and dow hills (bridges here in Fla)I have loaded the VUE with lots of windsurfing equip, including a 9'9" long 34" wide board inside over the dash and an 8.5 board under it. I looked at all other small SUV's and none of them could come close to the Vue for capasity. The Saturn experience was great. I'm leaving on a 7000 mile trip to the NW with 5 boards, 10 sails, 6 masts, 4 booms and me inside.

Saturn wasn't on the radar screen
I wasn't even thinking about a Saturn when I took the wife's van in for service across the street from a dealer. I had time to kill and went over to look at the VUE since I was semi "in the market" to replace my 2000 Ford ZX2 with something larger. I get Fords at invoice through my employer but that couldn't beat the introductory price of the 4cyl/5-speed VUE with all of the "free" equipment. I've driven Escapes, Libertys, Rodeo Sports, 4 Runners, and I really liked the VUE. For the feel of quality it has at the price I paid, $17065 with the power package, am/fm/cd upgrade, alloy wheels, floor mats and the power sunroof, it is the best deal out there.
A Lousy Car and Company
I have had nothing but trouble with this car from the get-go. First and foremost, when I bought it, I was supposedly buying one exactly like the car they used to "puppy-dog me" into buying one. Never did they mention mine was a 5 speed. All I got was the speech about the "free" upgrades. Since then I have had the gromet break in the transmission and oil "disappear". I have been through 3--yes 3--ignition coils and believe it or not, although I was guaranteed a "free" inspection every year, I have yet to get by without paying at least $20 for the installation of a broken light bulb. This year I took it somewhere else for an inspection, paid for the inspection and passed! DUH!
Glad that's over...
I hate to bash this car, it got me around for 'bout 7 years and over 100k, but: This cars been my rival the entire time- Pros: This thing is pretty safe. I have been in 3 notable accidents (most recently fatally colliding with a deer) which have left me completely safe and confused that my vehicle had collided with something! Cons- This whole car (Including critical engine components) is made of cheap plastic, prone to dissentegrate and collapse in dire, drastic and expensive ways. It's all hunky dory 'til your engine almost seizes or your shifter breaks, leaving you in 1st gear and 30miles from the nearest soul. Thanks, Saturn.
