VERY Disappointed Cayenne Platinum Edition owner

The 2017 Cayenne Platinum Edition is overpriced and Porsche USA customer support is atrocious. There are many problems highlighted online that the paid test drivers won't tell you. Driver controls and gauges are very poorly placed and designed. Passenger side dash is an obnoxious protrusion and hazardous in even medium sunlight. Engine and drive line require software updates that customer service and most dealers don't want you to know about. They are covered under warranty but very expensive out of warranty. Transfer case issues are common. PCM issues are mysterious and PCNA refuses to address. Tire and brake wear are far worse than competition. STAY AWAY from the 17 and 18 Cayenne. Litigation is pending.

I have owned the car for about two years. Excellent quality build. Quality materials used inside, very luxurious. Sporty performance, no creeks, rattles or shakes. Quality in and out. Quality is not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Engine is powerful, 520 to 570 hp.

Not sure if I would get another one

Porsches are mostly about performance and less about luxury. I love the look of my car inside and out and how it accelerates and handles in traffic. But when it comes to all rhe extra stuff, like navigation, clock, mileage odometer, seat settings, etc., my car is already starting to show it's age with only 24k miles. The hands free bluetoorh has never worked, the seat settings sometimes decide to change to a different driver, the clock doesn't always reset itself, the trip odometer stopped resetting a few months ago. I'm just disappointed that Porsche couldn't do better. My Subaru never had any of these issues and I had it for 7 years. Also my tires are just wearing very unevenly and I already had to have them replaced once! Again, I only have 24,000 miles on this car.

Study warranty closely. Service charges can be high. Compare service prices of other Porsche dealers.

<cars I owned and driven> BMW X5, X5 hybrid Tesla 3 Benz E, GLS Lexus LS, RX Toyota Camry, Prius Honda Accord Porsche Cayenne <electric miles info> e-hybrid all electric mode miles 7miles (winter) - 10miles (summer), original spec says 12 miles overall mpg after about 80,000miles - 26mpg (every night full charging and commuting miles 7 miles per day, weekends driving highways about 60-100miles) <maintenance cost> oil change about $500, major maintenance each time $1000-$1500 every 2-3 years original Micheline 22inch tire last about 20k - 25k, changing all 4 tires cost about $2,000 wheel alignment issues causing very high pitch noise multiple times- cost about $500 each time faulty driving distance sensors - problem on and off, unable to find cause <pros> driving performance with sports and especially sports plus mode <cons> limit speed acceleration with e mode ---> I really do not like this limit they programmed high cost to maintain

I will NOT buy another new Porsche as they are all Turbos now. Only problem has been premature leather seat wear (quite common), sport exhaust corrosion and tail light delamination/quality concerns. Porsche addressed all free of charge to me replacing nearly $4,000 in parts under warranty. Otherwise no mechanical issues at all at 40,000 miles. Original tires near end of life. Otherwise incredibly reliable. Quality of parts just not there, especially when costs are considered. I will not keep it much longer as maintenance costs will simply be too high for what it is. Dealer wants $100 to mount one tire, $400 for an alignment, $350 for an oil change, $2,000 for a tune-up that consists of about $300 in parts. Brakes are multi-thousand dollar repairs per axle! Yet the quality of these parts are sub par to Japanese autos!!!! Is it fast and does it handle great? Yes. But, so do cars half the price that are much easier on the wallet to maintain.

A performance SUV with right trade-offs

sremani, 08/10/2021
2016 Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid 4dr SUV AWD (3.0L 6cyl S/C gas/electric hybrid 8A)

An excellent overall SUV that is performance vehicle if you choose to on highway, a comfy cruiser during long distance travel and easy stop and go vehicle on street especially on electric mode. Personally, I use the SUV as electric only on street or slow traffic, based on mood on highway runs in comfort cruise mode or sports plus mode. I have driven this vehicle at very high speeds, I mean real real high speeds, and it won't sweat it. The transitions in low gears when you are in Electric drive can be clunky. Breaking at times on streets speeds the downshift kind of kicks hard before braking. Of course, servicing is going to be expensive, it's a Porsche. Cayenne is built like a Tank. It is extra heavy due the battery pack in the trunk. Due to the battery taking up space, there is no spare tire. It is 8-speed automatic, with shift pads and you can do the quasi manual shifts but I prefer by shift pads. One of the cool features is you can choose e-drive on and off as well as you can re-charge the battery while driving where the engine allocates a bit of its power to charge the battery. Really useful, when you are expecting slower traffic or street traffic. The interior is premium leather and the way the steering and. the instrumentation is set up is a driver's paradise. Most of the charging is overnight charging on 110-volt outlet with the charger that was provided with the car. Depending on the season the all electric range is 7 - 17. During spring, summer and fall its around 12 miles with drastic reduction in cold weather. This was a tail-end 2nd generation of Cayenne, the infotainment reflects it. For me it reduces distraction and bluetooth does the job for me, but if Apple Car play is needed you need Get 3 Cayenne or there are some custom solutions that would need $600 dollars and some professional installation on the infotainment apparatus. I am happy with vehicle over all even though I needed a radio replacement and cost $2,000 for the replacement. I do not know how gracefully it will age but if I go by the 1st generation, these age really well because they are really well built vehicles, and if you maintain well hold up well for a long long time.

KILLING MACHINE!

It almost killed me. At one point the steering wheel got locked and brakes did not work- I could not make a turn AND the car drove to the opposite site and crashed at 18 miles per hour- I would HAVE KILLED me at the higher speed. Luckily, there was not any incoming car. AS soon as it is repaired I am selling this car.

I have owned it now for 2 years and still enjoy driving it every day. As long as you keep it maintained, it still runs like a thoroughbred. Clients, friends and family still admire it and its timeless style. As someone who has a new car every 2 years, I can say there isn't anything out there that would make me happier and is as fun to drive yet still practical. So, I am keeping this car!
