Good value for the money

I bought my 2010 Versa SL Hatchback new in 2010. Options included the premium package and floor mats. The mileage rating on the window sticker indicated 28 city and 34 highway. In several 500 plus mile trips on interstate highways through the mountains of PA it did indeed get 34 mpg's, no more, no less. In city driving it has gotten close to 28 mpg's, sometime a little more, sometimes less. I have discovered that running the a/c or the defroster has a negative effect on gas mileage to the tune of 4 or 5 less miles per gallon in city driving. Very reliable, no issues.

My Second Versa

I just purchased a gently used 2010 Nissan Versa Hatchback. This is actually my second Versa and I'll keep buying them. The cost is incredible, the quality is fantastic, the value for your money is unmatched. I drive 30 minutes each way for work 5 days a week and do quite a bit of road trips to see family. The Versa is fun to drive, is great on gas and it's roomy and comfortable. I have an 8-month-old son and it's so much easier getting a car seat in and out of this car than any other I've had. The doors open wide and the seats are a bit higher, so it's easy! The first Versa I had took a ponding in a severe hail storm. It cleaned up great and went on ticking!

Tire pressure monitoring/front bumper

Steve, 10/29/2010

All of the good things you have read about the Nissan Versa are true. Unfortunately, the front bumper cover is too low to the ground and the clips that hold the cover on are too fragile. Half my clips broke within the first month of driving, the cover bottoms-out exiting driveways of all kinds. The impact causes the too fragile clips that hold it on to the car to break. The cover is now held on with epoxy and aquarium glue. The Nissan Versa also has a multi-year history of faulty tire pressure monitoring systems and this has not been fixed for 2010. Dealerships have no fix for this since the problem apparently is the result of poor engineering and manufacturing of the air valve stems.

Maybe it isn't the prettiest, or the most feature rich, but nissan has made a car that has everything I need, and nothing I don't. It's fun to drive, gets good gas milage, has an auxilery port that is conveniently located so I can have my electronics in the stash box, has tons of room (a bigger back seat than my dad's jaguar), and has been essentially maintaince free the last six months. All in all, for the price I paid, I can't complain (even with only 37 k miles)

This is a great basic, 1st car. It is a cute vehicle for a teen who needs transportation and will eventually want something more. It runs great, gets great mileage and has lots of visibility. It is a basic car - no power door locks, no power windows. It does have power steering, AC, a CD player and an Aux port, so your teen will be able to hook up their phone music. It is a great starter car, and I look forward to eventually buying a more luxury version.

I purchased a used 2010 Nissan Versa 1.8SL with 110K miles on it for my teen daughter & son, they drove it 662 miles over 30 days. On the 30th day the CVT transmission totally went out. Having to pay $3600 for a new transmission, $100 more than we paid for the car. Nissan extended the warranty on these transmissions because of the major issues they had, went from 5 yrs/ 60K miles to 10 yrs/ 120K miles. I contacted Nissan to see if they would honor this warranty because they knew it was a problem, they declined to do so because we missed the timeline (apparently ended in 2019) even though the mileage was still under 120K. I will never buy another Nissan again or vehicle with a CVT transmission. If you’re thinking about it, DON’T, they are garbage. Most expensive mistake I’ve ever made!

I bought this car for my mother and initially felt bad that I could not afford a nicer car for her. This completely changed once I got a chance to drive it! With the CVT, hatchback, upgraded interior this car is absolutely wonderful. I drove over 600 miles in one day and felt comfortable (I'm 6'4"!) and relaxed. The CVT is extraordinarily smooth and efficient and had no problem with power up mountains. This car is awesome, a great commuter, and I managed an average of 34-35 MPG during the trip!

My only complaint is the interior noise, the road noise and the comfort of the ride is poor. The dash is rattles and sqeeks. We can feel every little break in the roads. We are on our third set of tires and the ride is a little better and so is the road noise with the new tires. For what we paid, we feel we got good transportation at a ver reasonable price. If your buying a used one, be sure the air bags have been replaced, they are on the recall list. Now at 100,000 miles and the car is still running strong. I’m thinking of buying another one. Now at 115,000 miles and no problems, it just won’t die. 14 years old and still looks new. May be the last car we bought, we are in our late seventies and only use it to go buy groceries and the doctors.

I had a Sentra before this car and there is more room in the back seat on the Versa. The gas mileage is great and you can make a u turn on nearly every road with no problem. The only issues I have had are the exhaust. I had to have a piece welded a couple of years ago and now I think the baffles in the muffler are vibrating. Still great for a 10 year old car. I still love it.

Bought this car used from a dealership with 126,xxx on it, and I have driven at least 900km since. It is a lot of km's for a 4-year old car, but I heard Nissan's will last forever it taken care of. I have no real complaints about the car. The engine makes a strange ticking noise whenever it's accelerating, but I'm assuming it's the timing chain..Unless this is a problem. Good on fuel, get around 370km to a tank, I got 310 on my old VW Golf. The only complaints I really have is that there are rust spots on the hood of the car. The look like they are from bugs. I plan on removing the spots in the summer. Also, the check engine has come on and dealership keeps saying it's the gas cap.

My Nissan Versa has been sitting in the repair shop for over 6 weeks waiting for a gasket for the radiator!! I would have never bought this car if I had know how hard it is to get parts! We have also had it in the shop because it died and needed a fuse. They keep lots of these in stock--must happen often. What a mistake.

Good on gas, comfortable and no real problem until around 110,000. Then latch in the back stopped working. I spent over $200 trying to get an idea of the problem and 2 dealers disagreed on what was wrong (one was a Nissan dealer). Both agreed it would cost over $500 to fix — almost more than the car was worth. Next the transmission was slipping and the driver’s door wouldn’t open at times.

Great mpg, minor problems

We bought our car at 60k about 3 years ago. We've used it as a commuter, a road tripper, and a cross-country mover. Gets easily 28mpg in the city, and closer to 31-34 on the highway, which has saved us a bunch of money with a lengthy commute. It's smaller, but fits a car seat and one other person in the back with some room. Definitely cramped with 3 people in the back. It's not a fast car (4 cylinder), but you shouldn't expect it to be fast with it being so efficient on gas without being a hybrid. Trunk is fairly spacious, can hold quite a bit more than you would expect, which is great for a small family. We have had a few problems with it, but most of the repairs were $600 or less. The stock alternator went out at about 70k and had to replace the battery at the same time because it drained it so fast. The muffler rusted out at about 80k which was a little costly. Engine noise is a little on the loud side, but you get used to it. We got the model with power windows, AUX port, and power locks, which isn't much, but it's also a cheaper car. Finally, at about 70k, the hatch button stopped working, and would not open unless you opened it manually from the internal lock on the inside of the car. The fix itself was costly so we didn't, but we fixed it by taking apart the passenger door and adding in a manual switch to unlock and lock the trunk. There's some great DIY videos on Youtube to help, or you can take it to a dealer and expect an expensive fix. Ours works great now, and you always know it locks. All in all, it's a car that runs pretty well and efficient, just take care of it.

I wanted a safe, economical, practical car for my daughter to drive and the Versa is all that and more. The ride is quiet and smooth, the interior is comfortable and the controls are well thought out. We got 33 MPG on the highway driving to Texas...not too shabby. Plus, the car looks WAY better than the Fit or Yaris - especially if you get the red version and put on some window tint! 50 cu.ft. cargo capacity with the seats down, plus, the engine has a timing chain - not a belt! In my opinion, this car is hands down one of the best cars in it's class today.

I purchased this vehicle NEW 2 days ago. Within 10 miles I had brake pedal feedback/shudder. At 200 miles, the brakes shudder so hard that the steering wheel almost shakes your hand off of it. The A/C compressor was cycling in/out way too often. Check engine light on at 225 miles. Took it to the dealer today - Updates as of current: 1) Front rotors are warped 2) A/C compressor is shot, needs to be replaced 3) "We haven't had a chance to find out what the 'service engine soon' light issue is, nor have we found the source of the odd howling noise. This is the 2nd Nissan that has had ridiculous issues, but this one is only 36 HOURS OLD!

I am quite pleased with this car. fun to drive, peppy,,, has acceleration if you need it, Clutch is a little soft or sensitive, I'm used to Toyota Tercel 1997, with new clutch, so slightly different drive. the computer throttle cable has a 1 second lag in response to push of pedal or release so feels more like an automatic in that sense. first gear is really a short gear, almost too short, red lines in less than 1.5 seconds,,,, halfway through a turn from stop sign. Handles sporty compared to my old car. Lots of Interior room, especially adults in back. seats fold down flat really helps in cargo department. Stereo is actually acceptable and that's coming from a stereo freak!

I was looking to replace the wife's Scion xA. The car is a bit larger and MUCH more comfortable. Quieter, more legroom. Sound system is good. Visibility is very good. I tried the Yaris, xD, and Fit and got this one for the quieter more comfortable ride. The others were more like sports cars (to me). After 3000 miles, so far so good. Gas mileage is a bit lower (averaging 30 mpg mixed driving) than the Scion.Got the drop-in rear storage compartment for $120 and a $50 armrest/console from eBay. A nice little car. I'm 6'6" and fit quite well.

Was a little unsure about such a small car and some reviews! to sum it up! Great car! economical! practical! Fun to Drive. recommend the SL with the CVT. And it comes with center armrest! and Ipod hookup! also Sl has few great features that take away most complaints I have seen! If people were not so cheap they would get a much better value for some pocket change! really peppy car actually went from a Pontiac G6 gt to this and his would probably keep up with it! lol handles nice and very very comfy! also more lighting and mirrors in the SL! great buy for the price. Must drive it

I bought this car used. It has 40k miles on it but feels and looks new (kudos to previous owner). This car is a huge step up from my former SUV which as we all know was clumsy and a gas hog. This car is like a toy for me. It zips when I need it to and stops when I need it to. Corners like a champ and is full of features. Excellent car for the price.

So far the car is amazing! We looked all around car shopping and we could not find any other car that could compare. As they say the price was right. Make sure to get the S series not the base it makes a difference. The only problem we ran into is we never owned a brand new car so no one told us that the first 5000 miles you get less MPG than on the sticker "engine Brake in they call it" except no one at the dealership told us. Worth the test drive!

I bought the Versa after attending a car show and sitting in every small car made. The Versa is extraordinarily roomy and comfortable for its size, as roomy as most midsized. The headroom, both in front and in back are excellent. The seats are comfortable, especially for a subcompact. I've read some comments about the width of the Versa. It is indeed narrow, but the designers have constructed the Versa in such as way as to create a sense of greater width than it objectively has. I'm pretty wide, 5' 6" and 250, and I truthfully do not feel squished. I've owned my Versa for about 3 months. It handles beautifully. The ride is quiet. I highly recommend it.

The car is very comfortable. We looked at the Fit, the space with the rear seat folded down is great, but the seats are very hard.

My husband and I tried every other hatchback and station wagon under $20,000 (including some used) before deciding on the Versa. We tried both the S and SL hatchback and chose the SL because it has much smoother acceleration, iPod hookup, and VDC and stability control (great in the snow!). So far, the car has been a joy. Handling is responsive but not too stiff. Some of the other hatchbacks felt like "kid cars" to us, but the Versa is roomy, with the most backseat space for a carseat to fit if needed. If you get the hatchback, make sure to purchase the $130 cargo organizer for a level load floor with bins below.

I love this car inside and out! Except that I've only had it for less than 24 hours, (w/25 miles on it when I drove off the dealership) and the same thing happens to me as one of the reviewers...a weird knocking sound coming from the right front tire. It happens when I accelerate right after driving and/or backing out of a spot. The steering wheel also makes a squeaking sound when backing up into a spot. I'm not sure if I should be concerned because it's a brand new car or maybe it just needs to be driven more and the noises will go away through time. Other than that, I am super happy with the build quality and fine interior.

I used to own a Nissan 200 SX SE and I just bought a Nissan Versa SL yesterday after comparing and shopping around. I've considered Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, Honda Civic, and Mazada3. Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris felt cheap and uncomfortable compared to the Nissan Versa. Mazada3 and Civic EX-L seemed unnecessarily expensive. I also read reviews that said the Civic EX is loud on the road. The Versa is very smooth, roomy, comfortable, quiet on the road and beautiful. Not the prettiest appearance on the outside but definitely practical. So far I love everything about it and I can't stop smiling. Really love the CVT transmission, b/c it's so quiet that my boyfriend kept on falling asleep in it.

I bought this hatch because it had more room for passengers than any comparable cars. The Fit handled better, but seemed geared higher & had less room for passengers in back. The Yaris was tiny, had the annoying center gauges & felt like it would roll easily. Over 6500 miles, my Versa is getting 32 mpg (rural commute). The car is comfy, stable & handles well. It is too early to predict long term reliability. The only major knock I have is the drivetrain. The 6 speed manual needs a higher overdrive. The Clutch is a bit vague & needs to have more "feel". My total price was $15,000 out the door with California taxes and title for a 1.8S with power package, VDC and 5 yr. 0.9%. financing.

Ours has everything except the moonroof and navigation. I am really spoiled with all the extras. It is so quiet, and rides wonderfully. I have to watch my speed, because it feels like you are not moving that fast. There is so much room. We have 2 Aussies and lots of stuff and this can carry it all. The cvt is a must and the interior upgrades are a outstanding. the center console addition is perfect. You get what you pay for. I am satisfied with the car considering what I paid for it. There are some recurring themes of problems (let's face it we want to know the bad before we buy): 1. There is occasional weird noise when I make a hard right turn at > 30 mph from the rear right wheel. 2. Transmission down shifting is non- existing, it is another weirdness to it overall not very smooth. 3. Experience the fan on with only 10 secs interval when the air conditioning is on. That does not sound right. That's about it, the good news is that if your car is exhibiting one or all of these symptoms, well that's the point of 36,000 3 year warranty, get the bugs worked out while its covered.

I have been driving my Versa for a few months now. It's been a great car! Small, but incredibly roomy. It definitely feels like a much larger car that it actually is. Right now I'm getting around 29 mpg (mixed driving). I wish that was better...I'm hoping gas mileage improves as it gets more broken in. I wish it had a little more power as well - but it's not really meant to be powerful! Overall, comfortable and affordable car.

We compared this car with with the toyota - yaris - no comparison scion - xD - too expensive hyundai - accent - poor build quality and underpowered honda - fit - nice but way overpriced The Versa is a very comfortable car, enough power to get onto a highway, and quiet. I get 28 mpg around town. We purchased it with the power package which includes cruise control. This is a tight little car. I will let you know in a couple of years if it was a good value. But so far, we like it.

My wife had a 2002 Subaru Forester and it was time to get her a new car. She loved the Forester so I knew that it was going to be difficult finding her something she would like as well. After looking at the Honda Fit, Subaru Impreza, Toyota Matrix, and VW Golf, there was no question that the Versa was the right car for her. She absolutely loves the car, especially the unique Espresso Black color, which is actually a dark brown. The gas mileage is tremendous and it is really fun to drive. I would recommend spending a bit extra to get the SL package as it is much more comfortable and the standard options it comes with make the driving experience better.

Nice Little Commuter

Because my son had an accident with our '98 Honda Accord (233,000 miles), I had to give him my '07 Honda Fit manual shift (108,000 miles) so that he can get to school. I had to buy a commuter car and the Versa was my choice. It is an SL fully loaded. I will be putting in excess of 45,000 miles a year on this car just like I did with the Honda Fit. So far for commuting, the Versa is miles ahead of the Fit. The '07 Fit is a very fun car, but not a commuter car for the city. The ride is just too stiff on NY City streets. If I really need fun, thankfully I still have a supercharged BMW 540 on the side.

I have owned this car for a week with the premium package. I had a Saturn Vue prior and have not noticed a decrease in comfort or the quality of driving. I test drove a Honda Fit and this car and the Fit could not match the comfort of this car. My two year old daughter loves it. I still feel like I am setting in my SUV instead of a small car, but I can maneuver so much better. Great car!

Broken Window

Let me start by saying I do really like this car. It handles well and is very quiet. Ingress and egress is phenomenal. Gas mileage is really good for a 1.8 liter engine. My only real complaint is that the rear door window shattered without warning today. I can't say for sure that nothing hit it to make it happen but it was quite explosive (glass flew to the other side of the car). I'm fortunate that no one was sitting in the back seat at the time as they surely would have been hurt. First question, what stops the window from rolling up when it finishes closing? If it's the glass itself then there could be too much stress on it. Might be worth a look from the design engineers.

We purchased our 2010 Versa. In April 2010. Over all it is a great car. Great gas mileage. But the only problem we are having with ours is it doesn't even have 10,000 mile on it but the brakes squeak. We took it in to the dealers several times. For repair but they still squeak.

Upholstery a nightmare

Only complaint about this car is its interior upholstery. Everything sticks to it, therefore it is constantly covered with fibers from clothing and whatever else is flying in the air. Vacuuming helps, but have to work really hard to remove particles from upholstery. Even the upholstery itself seems to fluff up when it's vacuumed. The seats are very soft and comfortable but impossible to keep clean. Other than this complaint, this car is very nice.

Cheap Plastic

I had one of these as a rental in the summer and it seemed to be a solid, quiet, tightly built little car. Ok so I bought one. Now the weather is cold and the cheap plastic used for the console and dashboard rattles and squeaks like crazy until the interior warms up. Not impressed.

Horrible Navigation

I bought this car just for the navigation and it was a horrible idea. The navigation system gets me lost all the time. I spoke to Nissan corporate about the issue they said that they cut back on the navigation on this car. They use a completely different company for all their cars except on the Versa. Please do not buy this car with the navigation save your money and buy an external GPS navigation.
