Still Running Good!
I've had this car since 2008, already an old car.. I Love driving it, very good on gas. Had just a few minor problems. Needed a jump once or twice. Fuel pump went out at around 250,000k miles... same engine, same transmission,
THE ABSOLUTE BEST CAR I'VE EVER OWNED
This car is like my right arm, not a separate entity... my '93 Nissan Sentra XE is literally my true love. An antique this year, 5-speed manual, has 272,765 miles on it, has never been wreaked, and I've been driving it off & on for almost 20 years(bought it from my mom 3 years ago) I've never even gotten a ticket in it! I'd recommend this car to anyone & everyone! I LOVE U NISSAN!!!!!

Fun!
It is really fun to drive. Hands down the fastest and most fun car I have ever had or driven. I don't get very good city gas mileage but highway is great. If you see one in good condition buy it. Mine has 205,000 miles and still runs like new. The ride is very comfy. I get compliments all the time from people who ride or drive my car. They don't expect to be that fast. Buy it you won't regret it!
Couldn't be a better car!
I bought this car in college mainly because of the reviews in Car & Driver. This is the perfect sleeper. It could outrun almost anything on the road at the time including the Mustang GT, Probe, Miata, 240SX... all for $13,000! I have had the car for almost 10 years and still love it. I could not have made a better choice. If you can find one in good shape, it will not let you down.
The best car ever!!
I absolutely love my Sentra! I bought it with 90,000 miles and I am up to 198,000 with no problems. I have had people try to buy it from me but I refuse, I will keep it until it dies. It has been the most reliable, low maintenance car I have ever owned. I would buy another one in a heartbeat!
A terrific car
I got it for two years and it hadn't make me blue yet. It's very easy to go around 35 miles. It's not powerful enough to speed up very fast (1.6L), but once it reaches 50mph and up, it takes very very little effort to keep the speed. In two years, I changed oil every 3000 miles and I only changed the brakes once. I'd like to say it's terrific.
I like my Sentra
I have had the vehicle a while now. As of 11/2/02 I am almost at 150,000 miles and have not needed any major work on it. It's close to the most dependable car I have ever owned.
Its a sleeper!
This little car gets up and goes, not bad for a "economy" car. It'll beat most of those fast looking cars and it still gets 30 mpg when you want to be civil. A little bit of a tight fit, I'm 6'2 250, otherwise no complaints.
I love this car. It has been the best.
This is the best car I've ever owned. I purchased the car when it had only 12 mi on the odometer and now it has 163,000! It is still in top running form. I only recently had to replace the clutch after 150,000 miles. Buy a Sentra if you get the chance.
Gonna Drive it 'til it dies!
Bought my Sentra brand new in '93 for about $8,000! Aside from the poor paint job (started wearing away around 5 years into it), I love my car! We're fixin' to celebrate our 10 year anniversary next year, and although I really want one of them new Frontiers, I think I'll drive this one until she dies!!!
Good car except for electrical system
With over 100,000 miles on it, I have had relatively few problems with the car. Every problem that I do have, however, has been electrical. The electric odometer sensor went bad, then the blower switches, now the left headlight intermitantly works or doesn't (there's a short - I have to jiggle it to get it back on - a real pain). But for the mileage I certainly can't complain too much. Overall it is a good economical car, if not boring.
This car is still my baby.
I bought this car used with approximately 59,000 miles on it back in 1998. I have 103,000 miles on it now and I still love it. I needed to replace the battery and the distributor cap at 75,000 miles, (no big deal). At 98,000 miles I replaced the alternator and at 102,000 miles replaced the starter. These items are all due to wear and tear which are needed to be replaced at some point in the vehicles life cycle. All in all I have never had to worry about starting up my car and driving. I hope this vehicle can continue to be as reliable as it's been because even though I own two more vehicles, I plan on keeping this one for a few more years.
I am going to have her framed!
This car has been with me coast to coast on a number of occasions. It is by far the most reliable car I have ever driven. To date it has 190K and I plan on holding on for at least $200K if not longer. Not only is it reliable, but strong. I was in a pretty heafty accident w/ the car (head on into a guard rail during rain) and she is still keeping on. No repairs - besides an air bag (Side Note: do not thy this stunt at home). Thanks Nissan!
Cool little car
I both this car in 97, and it had 40 000 miles. Right now it has 139000, it realy paid it self off. I had change few stuff, like cv-boots, rear mufler, couple off times front brakes, heating blower, termostat, and I still drive with original clutch. This car never left me on the road,I have bein in Colorado, in Canada cold wether.Right now it has a quite problems, burning oil, overheating, so I'll have to go for another one. Still good little car.
Energizer Bunny
This is the most reliable car I've ever owned. It just keeps on going and going. My sister bought it new, I bought it from her in 2000 with 100k on it, now it has 215k. Front CV joints last about 100k, cost about $300 to replace, other than that the car has required nothing except routine maintenance. I abused this car terribly for the first 5 years I owned it, taking it up dirt roads to service remote mountaintop transmitter sites, but it never let me down. It runs perfectly, no oil leaks, burns no oil, gets 35 MPG around town, 40 MPG on the highway if I keep my foot out of it. Cruises at 75 MPH all day long without breaking a sweat.
A Great Car with Great Potential
This was my first car, and I am its third owner. The SR20DE engine surprised me with it's great acceleration. Its quite a big engine for such a small car. Also its gearbox is wonderful, its gearing is very sporty. There's a pretty considerable aftermarket for the sentra se-r, so I've had no problem finding ways to improve its performance. The original engine was ruined due to a part mixup at the local Nissan dealer in which they sold me the wrong oil filter (it popped off while driving and oil starvation ruined the main bearings) so I swapped in an SR20DET. Its basically the same engine, but with a turbo straight from the factory. It fit perfectly. Now I have a sentra with ~250 horsepower.
Great car for a grad student
I bought my sentra in grad school. It is an excellent choice for somebody on a budget. I plan to keep it until it can no longer run, then I'll donate it.
Conservo-mobile!!!
I, too, loved this little guy. Bought it used at @ 26K mi. Took many trips from NC/Va., back home to Pa., for holidays and family visits. Had more trouble with the fuel pump (twice repaired) than anything, but it cranked each and every time I needed it. My AM radio never worked, but the cassette sounded pretty good. I'm at 148K and STILL haven't changed the clutch! Burgundy color and simple styling made it plain, but when it was clean and swept, which wasn't often, it looked pretty good
More than 151,000 miles,original engine
This car responds to routine maintenance in hot weather, it has been fun to drive for more than 151,000 miles, the a/t has an on/off switch and is easy to measure and drain its oil, able to return more than 31 mpg all the time with a/c off, seems to be able to last for more than 200,000 miles without major problems. I hope so.....
good little car
i bought this car when it was already 9 years old.it was very affordable. it had only 38k miles on it and now has 47k miles on it. it has been a reliable car since then. its fun to drive and has better pick up than a new chevy cavalier. it still looks good for an old car and i plan on keeping it as long as possible.
This car simply rocks!!!
What can I say? There is and never was a better compact sold in the U.S. then the Sentra SE-R. Inexpensive, yet outdrives cars twice it price. That SR20DE motor is remarkable on its own, and has the capacity to be even better. The shifter finds its own way to the gears as if subject to divine intervention. Plain exterior doesn't attract the wrong type of attention either. Love this car!!
93 Nissan
Good gas mileage even with automatic. Handles very well and clings to the road. Used primarily in a 30 mile rnd trip commute to work. Sound and peppy little (1.6 l) engine. In 10 years replaced only plugs twice, struts once, ac cond. fan once, and starter once. Also had to replace the sun visors because of auto shoulder strap.
Excellent!
Well, I guess I've only has this car for a few months, but I put well over 5,000 miles on it (Originally had 149,000.) The car always started and not once let me down. Unfortunately the cars' life came to an end just the other day when I hit a van and totalled it. And just because of how well it held up considering the speed, I am looking for the same exact model to buy! Excellent!!
Decent, Reliable Car
Very solid, trusty, reliable car - first car I'd ever owend (at age 30!). I had a bare bones "E" model (little engine, manual windows, not even a passenger side mirror!) but it never gave us any real trouble. Bought with about 25k on it and drove it for over 90k miles. Excellent care for puttering about town, driving to the train station, running errands, even going a on a road trip - but only if you were a hard up college age kid :-) Good fuel economy, high 20s MPG, but that comes at a price -- engine is a little skimpy and merging onto the expressway full of SUVs can take a few minutes off your life. Only maintenance issues were routine.
ENERGIZER BUNNY
Bought this car with 143,000 miles on it four years ago after my vehicle was totaled in an accident. Needed an inexpensive but reliable car in a hurry. She keeps going, going, and going. The car has over 200,000 miles on it now. Recently replaced CV joints radiator, and oil gasket. Car has great gas mileage, pick up but does burn a lot of oil. Will keep her until she dies but looking for a roomier vehicle.
My best friend
My sister talked me into buying this car from her. not what I wanted at the time, but I soon fell completely in love with it. I put 50,000 miles on it (now has 175,000) & it has always gotten about 32/37 mpg city/highway. Replaced clutch (just over $500)CV joints(about $200) & headlight switch ($150), but that was all after 125000 miles & was well worth it. Love this car, rides so smooth despite the beating I have given it (a year of backroads, only changed oil 2x, never maintenanced it once!), just asks for more. Lots of power & kick for a 4- cylinder, handles great & eats up curves. Have to trade it for a 4dr since I had my son, but it makes me cry to let it go :( Bottom line: FUN!!!!!
It keeps going and going
This is the second Sentra that has given me over 175000 miles with very few problems. Early on, within the first 30000 miles, I had to replace 5th gear on the manual transmission and fix a problem with the idle. Since then, just routine maintenance. The gas mileage is still very good, but no where near the 45-55 mpg I used to be able to get out of it. Great in the snow too. It has no problem with New York and Vermont winters, even with 6 - 8 inches of snow on the road. Definitely bare bones, not even a radio when I got mine, but what do you want for under $8000 new.
A Car which Aged Decently
Bought this car with 134K miles and now it has 155K. Besides the normal maintenance (brakes, lights, etc) I had the clutch replaced (the cost was not absurd). The engine (original) makes regularly 32 m/g (city/highway) and can run at 70 mph with stability. It does not burn oil and I like the manual transmission. Overall, it is a car which aged decently.
Awesome Car...simply put...awesome
This car took me through it all, nice summer days and bitter NJ winters. Sadly with 108,000 miles or so, this little pup cracked its whole front. The blame can only be placed on poor drivers in NJ, the only thing I was unhappy about is that my car looked like it had hit something going 65mph and the other cars involved looked like the actually event had happened, a gradual 10mph fenderbender...It had been through 4 crashes before that and help up pretty well, the only thing ever to go wrong was body work, the engine has never given up. I LOVED MY SENTRA...(still do)
it is great
i owned my nissan for 2 years. when i received my nissan the car had 186,000 miles on it. when i sold it the car had 222,000 miles on it and was still running very well. i am a true believer in owning a nissan. i have a ford escort now and i realize now that it will never be as good to me as my nissan was. i hope in the future to own one again
Fantastic Car...
This car is 11 years old and has been great. It's comfortable, peppy, get's great gas mileage and has been very reliable. It has 150,000 miles on it and has driven across the country 3 times with no problems. I plan on keeping this car until it dies...
Couldn't Find a Better Beater
What a peppy car! Can't believe it's only a 4 cylinder! Got it as a commuter car at 172K miles. Spins the tires easily with the 5 speed. Can get frostbite from the AC, goes forever on a tank of gas. Just try and pry me out of this one! Handles great, a pleasure to drive. My almost new car just sits, as I'd rather drive this one. A surprisingly fun and dependable car.
Best Kept Secret
This has been the best car, bar none, that I have ever owned. I am not the best at maintaining a car. I have had one set of sparkplugs, one set of struts, several sets of tires (once getting 80000 miles), never replaced the exhaust or the generator or the starter or the wires or distributor. I just drive the thing and it has never failed me. I would buy another with 100,000 miles on it and expect to get another hundred thousand. Ten years of no car payments and it still gets 37 mpg on a trip. I'm loving it.....
Most Reliable Car I have Owned!
My family bought the car brand new. 16 Years later, car has 204,000 Miles and counting! Only replaced the clutch, radiator, maybe 2 alternators, and the injectors. This car is BULLETPROOF!! Still gets 35 MPG+ ! I love it, sure it needs a little paint, and the interior isn't great after 16 years of driving all over the state, but at 204,000 miles it runs great! Passes emissions every time with no problem. Timing Chain means no worries of BELT braking! A+++ To nissan!
I love this car!
When I turned 16, my father bought me my first sentra. It was bright red so I named him Clifford. I loved that car! It was great for a teen! I learned to drive stick on it. Only problem I had with that one was the clutch being 12 years old and needing replaced. Sadly, his life ended in the snow one year. To replace him though, I found the same exact car (with a few modifications) and I absolutely love her! I still will always have a special place for my first one, but they all seem to do me good. Emily (Clifford's best friend) will be around till she dies.
The most reliable car ever!
This is the best vehicle I have ever owned. I purchased it ten years ago for $7400 and have had only one problem with the starter in the third year of ownership, which was covered under the warranty. Since then it has been smooth sailing at 33 MPG. I bought it because my Toyota was stolen and this was the best car for the money. It turned out better than the Toyota which I had owned for 11 years, with many more repairs.
A great first car
I had my Sentra for 5 years and would still have it if it hadn't been stolen! I had very few maintenance problems, especially considering I had it until 2002 (though my car did only have 60000 miles on it). For an economy car, it was pretty peppy, but lagged when climbing hills. It's definitely vanilla with no frills, but it's an excellent car for the money. If you're looking for reliability and good gas mileage with a great price, I would reccommend a Sentra.
Post your miles on your 93 Sentra
I have a 1993 Nissan Sentra that just turned 400,000 miles on 12/15/12 and still has original engine, post your miles.
Best car of its class
My XE is the 5-speed manual version, which I bough new 9 years ago. Only minor repairs so far. I took it to windy mountain roads - the handling is very good for a non-sports car. The turning radius is phenomenal -- out-turns almost all cars. Responds to the gas pedal swiftly and energeticly. Reliable, fun to drive. Outclasses its competitors: Civic and Corolla. A hidden gem.
Best car ever!
In 1999, my now-wife and I bought this Sentra used with 80k miles on it. It is now coming up on summer 2008 and this thing still runs like new! This is the most awesome little car! It has 165k miles on it now, and the only thing we have ever done to it is change the oil every 3k miles. We had the CV joints replaced once (expected from a front wheel drive) and replaced one alternator. Nothing else has ever been done to it, and it still runs like new.
272,000 miles?
Funny, I read the next review and 272,000 miles. Mine has about 28,000 miles because it was my mother’s and I don’t drive it daily and, obviously, not very far. Little resale value, but the cassette deck still works well, as does the antenna. And now 🥈NY charges only $11 to inspect a 25 year old car. Trade for the new Vette? Hmmm, keep the Sentr.
Great car
I have had one 94 E that was made in Mexico and that was a pretty good car and then I bought a 93 xe japanese made, for $1700 in very good shape but running like crap due to horrible maintenance, so I put up to specks and that's a big difference, it purrs and am at 225000 miles and still running good.

Got this great car brand new for way under sticker
My dad and I had a ruby red 1993 Sentra XE 4 door sedan. It was his car but he let me drive it all the time. It had A/T and cruise control. This car was very reliable and solidly built as far as small cars go. The engine sounded refined with a sweet engine note. It had a nice growl to it and not too loud. Ride was very good. Medium to firm and supple except on the roughest road surfaces which NYC has a lot of. He bought the car at Koeppel Nissan for $9300!! We thought the ad was a gimmick but we took the ad and they honored it. Well below sticker price. This particular car was made in TN not Japan yet build quality was exemplary. When I got my first new car, he kept the Sentra until moving to Florida as he didn't want to drive it there as he had too much stuff to take. I think the car would've still been running today as it was well taken care of.

SR20DE'd
First off this car is fast enough to take on just about anything on the road, 0-60 in 7.5 seconds. I recently got a AEM ram air intake.and a few other things, it does 0-60 in under 7 seconds now! All for less than $200. Stock is really quiet which was bad for me because I need to hear the car to shift best. The car has good looks for an late 80s design. Great stance even with stock suspension. The SR20DE engine in my car, and the SE-R is bulletproof, they say it can handle 500 HP of boost off stock internals you just have the transmission deburred, cryogenically treated, and two-step shot peened, and it should be good for just about anything you throw at it. I have seen these cars with over one million miles on them, and that was the weaker GA16DE! I get 29 MPG (not average, MPG is the same for both city and interstate). The car is a blast to drive, quick, and the handling is as good if not better than most modern cars. I have owned the car for three and a half years and spent $1900 in fixes on it, I bought the car for $1400 with 140000 miles on it in May of 2012. The seats are excellent, really comfortable, and really hold you snug going around corners. The stock wheels are nice looking, and only one of them leaks a little air after 23 years. Though it is not big by any means and probably not that safe (no air bags or anti-lock brakes), this car is good for families on a budget. The front seats fold, and slide forward on the passenger side, and easily slide forward on the drivers side(if you do not mind adjusting your seat, I let everyone in on the passenger side), so it is easy for loading up babies, and kids. Also there might not be much foot space in the back seat, but the genius engineers at Nissan raised the front seats up high enough to at least fit a size 14 mens foot under comfortably. Though my car is rusty, I know it will last for very many more years, until the frame breaks from rust, then or maybe even before then I am going to get a donor car to swap my engine and transmission into. If you plan on owning one, remember to red-line it once a month (to keep everything clean). The only things i do not like about the car, besides bad paint and rust, is with the A/C on it is as slow as a Honda Civic, I have seen dynos, the car makes stock numbers of 120 WHP and 119 WFT-LBS, and with the A/C on it makes 102 WHP and 112 WFT-LBS. Good thing the A/C does not work anyway in my car, also cruise control is broken, and it has bad 5th gear pop out (costs around $500 to fix) or you can just go with my solution, which is holding it in 5th gear up any incline.

perfect car
this is the most amazing car ever. its a front wheel drive car that will go everywhere you want it to go and had tons of power (enough to burn rubber at any time)...... it had almost 826,XXX miles (most highway)and ran like a top only routine maintenence and an alternator since i got it with 342,XXX in 05. i put on mostly highway miles and i gave it heck the entire time i had it running almost 80 in 3rd on the interstate and she always kept going!!! around christmas this year i totaled it and i already bought another and am lovin it. the only thing that could be better is the fact that with many of these sentras, the body falls apart around them
High capacity driving
Well I am a Rather large man 330 lbs and 6,2" offensive tackle size. LOL., son is 220 and tall, daughter is 6,1" and 200 lbs. Need some rear shocks now- Wonder why? LOL so this vehicle can carry around some pretty heavy loads. Winter I use studded tires. Up and down the bc hills and when it snows at times people are required to use chains. This vehicle just scampers up and down these hills. I'm a great driver but I have to give some credit to this little yet big car. When I purchased it it puffed some smoke. So I kept fresh oil in her. Keep changing the oil. I have put some oil treatments in her too. Still puffs some smoke at lights. LOL. It still keeps ticking.
