It's not perfect, but..
Ya it's not perfect. I have read reviews about how awfull the CVT is, and how the interiors of some have developed rattles. I have only had for a month, but I can see the happening. As far as the transmission, it's not perfect, but does the job well. The ride is a bit harsh (I have an SE), but has little lean when cornering. It's a trade off that's worth it to me. Although it drives and handles like a car, it tends to understeer, and plow like an SUV. It's not the high quality you would get from Mercedes or other high end dealers, but it's a lot of vehicle for the money. It sure is better than any minivan out there!
I love it
I read all the reviews here before I bought it. A great resource. I truly love the Murano. It is fun to drive. I love the style, I get more compliments and head turning as I go by. It handles great, could be a bit smoother but this is the SE and it still is a SUV. Great power and for the money I can't think of a better vehicle. It looks and feels like a luxury SUV for $5-$10K less than the usual suspects. Curious? I paid invoice and got them to waive the marketing adjustment. Sales Rep sold one the week before to a couple who "had done their homework" for $2k more. Edmunds TMV was also $2K more than I paid. Sticker $35,384 - paid $31,800. Any fedback?

Comments on Murano
i really like my Murano. i have had some bugs that had to be taken care of. Backing up I had a loud sqeal my odometer had to be replacedbefore 1000 miles . i also had a rattle underneath that turned out to be my emergency brake cable had to much play in it. otherwise i love my car. I've had alot of complements and looks from everyone while driving it.
Nissan Murano Review
I've driven nearly all of the vehicles in this class: Mercedes M Class, Acura MDX, Toyota Highlander, 4Runner, RX300. Pilot, Envoy, Trailblazer, Grand Cherokee, Rover, etc. and rate the Murano the best overall vehicle in this class regardless of cost. You owe it to yourself to drive this one if you are considering a civilized SUV that is beautiful, functional, gets great fuel mileage. It's a roomy as a Pilot, drives more like a car and sets a new standard for this class of vehicle.
A 350Z for non-Acrobats
Love this Murano. It has style, power, handling, and versatility. Being 6'4" tall, I can drive this vehicle for hours on end and not feel exhausted (like I did in the Sequoia I traded for it). Easy ingress/egress. Seats are very comfortable. Controls just happen to be where your hands fall. Tunes are superb. The CVT works very well. No downshifts at passing - just the power when you need it. And it comes very fast - no discernable lag. Fairly economical (19 in town, 24-25 on highway).
This is THE Urban SUV! CVT rocks!
I selected Nissan Murano SL AWD after seriously considering other luxury/urban SUVs. I test-drove Mercedes MLs, Lexus RX300, Infinity QX4, Honda Pilot.. Nothing came close to this vehicle. And I got it for only invoice + $500, which was a nice deal. Navigation system is a dream, great Bose sound, fine leather.. It looks great, drives great, and it's fun for both driver and passengers..
Like it better than my Jag
A blast to drive-I look foreward to getting into my Murano and driving it. I prefer it to my wifes Jag-anytime! Easy to get in and out and friends cannot believe the amount of leg room in the back. And ,in my opinion, it looks better than any of those "all look the same" boring SUV's on the market(SUV's in its class that is).
fun driven suv
styling is a eye catcher. performance is very good. and fun to drive
Great with Reservations
The auto locking mechanism has locked me out of the car 4 times with the engine running!!!!!! Sometimes when you leave the vehicle it locks immediately, sometimes in a little while and sometimes a long while or not at all with the keys out of the ignition. Taken to dealer and problem still exists. CVT is noticable in stop and go traffic, searches for proper location in slow moving traffic. Can the pre muffler below the front seats be repiped to fit in the tunnel for the rear shaft. This hangs to far down and is very visible and ugly when approaching the vehicle. The steering wheel mounted cruise controls SHOULD be illuminated for ease and safety.
Really bummed...
This is my 3rd Nissan-but my first brand new car. What a nightmare! Love the Murano itself, but I got a lemon! My car has less than 4,000 mi and has been in shop 5 times in last 6 weeks. Entire wiring harness was replaced last week. Trying to get issue resolved with Nissan, but a lot of red tape. Really hoping to get the new car I paid so much for soon because I have not enjoyed this car.
in love with my murano
I have only had my Murano for 10 days, but it is one of the best cars I have had. Comfort is important for me because I have had 4 back surgeries, and I find it very comfortable. I love the exterior styling, and the responsiveness of this vehicle. It is luxurious, attractive and functional, and has a bit of the old "muscle car" attitude. If it were a dance, it would be a Tango, smooth, sexy, powerful.
best car purchase ever!!!
This car is great! It is ultra quiet. The car has a very smooth ride. I was planning on buying a bmw x5. After I test drove this car. I went back to test drive it again. I decided to buy it. I have no regrets about it. The car has been great on gas mileage. The seats are very comfortable. This car has so many options available. My only problem is dealing with the dealer. I feel that the sales people were not throughly trained on every aspect of this vehicle. I would definitly recommend this vehicle 100 times over!
MURANO IS A TOP CHOICE AMONG SUVS
I HAVE OWNED MY MURANO FOR FIVE MONTHS NOW, AND I'M VERY PLEASED WITH THE OVER- ALL PERFORMANCE OF THIS VEHICLE. IT'S FUN TO DRIVE AND GREAT TO LOOK AT BOTH INSIDE AND OUT. I WISH THE ENGINE COULD BE MORE QUITE ON UPHILL WHEN ACCELERATING. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED OCCASSIONALLY A SLIGHT RATTLING NOISE FROM DRIVER-SIDE DOOR PANEL AND ABOVE THE GLOVE BOX AT HIGH SPEED IF THE ROAD A LITTLE BUMPY . WILL BRING BACK TO DEALER TO CHECK IT OUT. DESPITE THESE MINOR ISSUES, IT'S A SUV DESERVES HIGH MARKS.
I ADORE MY MURANO!
I've loved this vehicle since I saw its first commercial (using "Smoke on the Water" and the jukebox!) Its look had me right away, and I knew I had to see it. One month later, at the Chicago Auto Show, I saw it, sat in it, and knew it would be mine. 6 months later it is, and it is my favorite vehicle of any I've had....looks, performance, handling....you name it....all #1!
refreshingly fast
0-60 in like 7.5 sec for a SUV that also average like 20 mpg. What's not to like? Concerns: long term reliability with new CVT tranny and price.
I LOVE MY MURANO
THE VEHICLE SELLS ITSELF
Best ride ever
You have to drive this vehicle to really appreciate it. Very quiet and smooth, tremendous power from the V-6. Build quality is great.
Excellent!
I looked at virtually every SUV on the market and this one is the best combination of style and performance I found. It came down to a Honda Pilot (a wonderful SUV) and the Murano and while both offer substance, the Murano had style. It is comfortable, powerful, and in the SE trim eats up corners and handles nimbly around town. The price is also very reasonable considering all of the features and options.
a car you'll learn to love...
nice design exterior and interior.strong engine and the cvt is great.good choices of colors that could match your personality..
bad Luck
This car was purchased based on design, it is used in every day work, driving some times more than 100 miles daily, but maybe is that I have bad luck or something because right now the car is in the agency with a computer problem and they have to replace it and they don't have a real answer to that
Too big for you?
While I think the car is great looking, after driving it three months, I'm beginning to have my doubts. Driver comfort is the biggest complaint. I find the front seats to be too wide--so that I can't have an arm on the console and an arm on the door at the same time. Because the seat's so wide, and with leather, as I drive around curves or corners, I slide side to side in the seat, constantly readjusting my hands on the wheel. It's not a restful ride because of all the readjusting. And, for those of us not 6 ft tall, the armrest doesn't move forward far enough to rest an elbow while holding the wheel.
Decent outside, poor inside, high price
In person the Murano is a beauty. Inside is a different story. The seats are good but not great. The instrument thing on top of the steering wheel looks cheap and feels cheaper. The center dash looks like a glued on after thought. The plastics are OK but dull. There is huge "ledge" under the windshield. Think minivan inside. The V6 is powerful, the CVT strange but it really works. Power is very good from a stop or when passing. The suspension is decent, a little stiffer over bumps, but better than most SUVs. Steering is somewhat tight, but still feels strange. Brakes are good.
test drive
all in all a nice car...terrible in snow, even with awd. takes much to long to get up to speed, even at full trottle
The Best thing on four Wheels
The Murano is simply the best vehicle I have test driven and I have driven quite a few, From the Highlander, Pilot, Trailblazer, Axiom, Etc.. Great sound system (Bose), great handling and design inside and out. All the other car companies need to watch out because Nissan is no longer on life support with the new Z and the Murano. Nissan will put A strangle hold on the Mid price market. I have yet to see another Murano around my town, but i don't think that will last long. Best Midsize SUV Hands down.
Poor Fuel Economy
We absolutely love the look, the ride, and the comfort of this vehicle. It handles very well, but regardless of city or highway miles, the miles per gallon are not as stated on the dealer invoice. One other small design flaw is the headlight switch placement. This is the only thing we truly do not like about the vehicle. The switch can be manually used, or put in the automatic position.(Which we use.) However, the switch is placed on the blinker arm, and at times when you use the directional, you unknowingly move the position of the headlight setting. If they can improve MPG's and the headlight inconvenience, I would own Murano after Murano for life!
we love our murano
We just baught the maurano. Its everything that we wanted. Lots of head and leg room. And so very comfortable. The style is very unique and not of the ordinary blend of vehicles that you see on the road today. We love different! Its a 50,000 dollar car for only in the 30,000 range. Excellent value for the buck. Go for it you will like it.
I LOVE IT
It handles as well as my BMW did. I tried the X5 and the Pacifica. They were overrated(BMW and underpowered (Pacifica). My Blue Murano has 24 ct. plating on the the outside chrome (front and rear) I saw it in the showroom and it was love at 1st sight. Today(12/06/03), in a bad snow storm, I passed alot of struggling cars(BMW's, Jeeps and other lessor Urban SUV's) in a show of superiority. This car is awesome to drive and turns heads. Nissan should have put the Infinity label on the Murano, because the style is superior. People still ask me what it is. One of my employees was upset because her new Lexus SUV was " not as pretty".
EASY CHOICE
Murano was our first choice. It was a easy choice. We were looking for riding comfort and spacious interior. Maurano seats, when set at the highest level are the highest of my test rides in Montaineer, explorer, Pilot, and some mini vans. With the retractible pedals, the heated seats and the high seating my ride is so much better.Murano looks good, rides good, have great open feeling inside and also better gas mileage than other SUV type vehicles.
Best cari n 20 years!!
This car is comfortable and I love the transmission.
6.5 great years with my MO
This SUV was a 1st year model, so yes there were a couple of issues. The alternator recall, the rocking chair fixed under warranty and the flopping sun visor coming just this year. The CVT performed flawlessly and the only other items done were battery, tires, wiper blades & oil changes. All things considered, this was a blast to own & drive for 85k miles over 6.5 trouble free years. The styling was cutting edge in '03, it was very sporty for an SUV and it fit me, 6'3" 290lbs with ease. It could also hold my 3 boys in the back seat and 2 of them are 6+ foot. The cargo room was amazing, I have got many a admiring comment at Lowe's.
Starting to roll
We bought out Murano SL about three weeks ago and have been more than pleased with our "Pewter Panther." Ride, handling, comfort are all aces. We were looking for touring machine that can go down the long road with performance and comfort and to the grocery nimbly and pratically. We've found what we were long lookin for.
love this car
great car love the black color audio sounds great too. would like to see it with a v8.
Crossover wins overall
I absolutely love this car. It goes well in the snow, the engine is smooth and powerful accross the powerband. The stereo is great, but all factory systems could be improved upon and no matter where I go someone always asks me about this car.
Fun under the Sun
So far, We have driven it for 3 weeks and we love it. It handles like a real car; yet it is powerfull and fuel efficient. The stereo system is great, and the most stripped model comes with cd and sattellite ready stereo.
Disappointing
I traded in my '03 Murano for an '04 Maxima SL! What a difference. The design of the Murano was what sold me on the vehicle; the lousy gas mileage and horror stories re:front end problems made me trade for a Maxima after one cross-country trip. Two dealers confirmed that there were numerous complaints about the Murano's gas mileage; I think the "new" transmission was a key factor. The best mileage I ever got with the Murano was 17; with the Maxima, I never get less than 22 and up to 32mpg.
Loving the Murano
I love the Murano so far. It is fun to drive, stylish, and practical as well. I have had it for about three weeks now and thus far have no complaints. I am not wishing for snow, but am anxious to see how the AWD handles.
My 2003 Murano
This automobile is my all time favorite! I've had many autos ranging from cars, vans, and SUV of all makes and models. My two favorites are my '94 Nissan Maxima and now my 2003 Nissan Murano. Nissan seems to build the cars around me...for me...
Murano Too many frivolous frills
I don't own this car but would like to. I spent a lot of time at IRA Nissan and test drove this vehicle. It's a lot of fun to drive and versatile. I'm not sure what to make of the continously variable transmission, time will tell on that. Also, the 18" tires ought to be a bit of a surprise when they need to be replaced, I would bet that they are expensive. Too bad they don't offer a more bare bones AWD version of this car. It's too expensive for me, I'd be all over it if it was available in AWD for under $28 k
GR8 Dive
After a 12 months and 12K miles, this SUV contiues to delight my family. It's been absolutely reliable. The ride is firm and sporty, high seating postion offers good sight line for easy manuvering on the freeway. Ample ground clearance takes the worry out of exploring that dirt lane or that rough pavement, yet step in height is easy. The seating and interior space are very comfortable, and the leg room in back is surprising. The Murano is bigger on the inside than it looks. The kids don't get cramped on long car rides and there is even room for the dogs in the back. Speed, handling, looks, creature comforts and carrying capacity, this SUV is very versatile.
Great crossover!
Nissan blew it with the minimal advertising of this great vehicle! It rides wonderfully, is very luxurious and comfortable inside and has loads of safety and comfort features. It is perfect for those who no longer need the seating in a van, and who want the option of 4 wheel drive, a great transmission, plenty of power, and comfort!
Great Crossover SUV by Nissan, A+
I traded in my 2002 Nissan Pathfinder LE which was a great ride and my new 2003 Z Car for this new Murano. It offers me a single vehicle that has great looks and design coupled with fun to drive performance and comfort in an AWD vehicle. All this plus a vehicle that gets outstanding fuel economy and great room for passengers and the luggage. Nissan and Infiniti are doing a great job coming out with innovative performance products that are exciting to drive.
Nice but poor gas mileage
The car is excellent in many respects, but I have two concerns: First, the front seats (cloth) are not comfortable (the angle of the driver's seat is pitched too far forward), and the gas mileage (EPA says 20/24) has averaged about 13 city / 17 highway. Other cars I've owned have averaged about what EPA estimates, this one is a hayburner.
great
in town driving and hiway driving a real pleasure. the suv drives itself. the get up and go is great. storage space is better than the jeep grand cherokee i traded in.
handles great, little annoyances
Drives wonderfully but there are a few annoyances: a rattle in the backseat somewhere that the dealership is having a hard time pinpointing--have had to take it 4 times and it's still not fixed; headlights look like they stairstep up to the right, as if they were stalled unevenly, but the dealership says they are all like that?; also, brakes squeal when putting the car into reverse, and again, the dealership claimed to have fixed the problem by cleaning off "the glaze" but the problem has not gone away.
Nice SUV
I bought my Murano roughly 2 months ago. So far I've been very happy with my purchase. Performance for an SUV is outstanding. Ride quility is top notch. Over all design of the vehicle is great, they put a lot of thought into this SUV.
Love the car
Very stylish design, fun to drive and good fuel miledge.
Awesome
Not only does this machine perform,it is a looker. I can't drive 2 blocks w/out being stopped and talked to about my Murano. It is comfortable, smooth, fast, and responsive. Great gas mileage as well. Did I say roomy. Plenty of room front and back. The back seats recline giving more comfort and,as my girlfriend and I found out, plenty of room for plenty of positions. FUN!
Best SUV I've ever owned
I read reviews and eagerly awaited it's arrival. Needless to say, I fell in love with it when I first saw/drove it so I bought one of the first ones in town. Other than shopping around for the best price, I have had no other regrets. It's the most car-like mid-size SUV IMO.
WOW
Was looking at an Explorer or a Honda CRV. Found the space and fun to drive in the Murano. Great highway handling with plenty of power and breaks makes my 42-mile drive each way to work is pleasure. Programming my garage door into the rear view mirror is a great feature. Cool gadgets and room for the kids, all in one vehicle. Was expecting better gas mileage (now getting 22 hwy / sticker is 25hwy). Overall very impressed with my first new Nissan. Used Costco membership on line and saved a lot!
good
love the way is handles but would like to get better gas mileage. starting to get some rattles in it.
