My 3rd and best frontier yet
After owning 2 other Frontiers (2007 SE CC 4x2 213,000 miles 11 1/2 years) and (2018 SV CC 4x2 61,000 miles and 3 1/2 years) I have to say that my 2022 SV CC 4x4 premium is the best of all 3. 15 years driving frontiers and Nissan gave me almost everything I had wanted in the new truck. The interior is definitely a breath of fresh air, clean design well laid out, and it is easy to keep clean. The seats are more comfortable than previous frontiers. Gauge cluster is clean and easy to read. All controls are in right place with in reach while driving. Driver assist and adaptive cruise control are long over due and much appreciated. The leather seats are much higher quality, fit feel and trim than in previous versions of the frontier. The Fender sound system is a giant step above the stock SV unit and IMO should be optional for all trims. Cup and bottle holders are a plenty as well as better "tray" areas on dash and front and back of console that keep items where you put them, Console storage is big plus seems like double or more of what i had before. Though the interior except the seats are some form of plastic it is a step up from previous, the textures are decent, quality and fit are good, and it is a truck I do not want hard to clean materials inside. The only thing i knock on interior is the additional length of the vehicle they should have added 3 inches in back cab and made more comfortable seating for adults and they removed the second glove box. I always used that extra space now it is gone. When comparing against the other trucks in class Toyota is dated and too simpleton, GM twins are fractured and too busy, very little storage and cramped seating, Ford is ok but behind Nissan in look and feel. I do though like more color combinations with Ford. That is something Nissan could use is a few more color palettes in the inside. There were some that complained about Nissan reusing interior items from other vehicles and not everythign was "brand new" (SERIOUSLY) wow, IMO if it ain't broke don't fix it. The interior is very nice well thought out and fresh. So what if they used a button or switch from a car from last year. Some people just cannot find something tangible to complain about go nitpicking. Overall I give 8/10 for interior. The exterior is awesome, it really has that "I mean business" truck look IMO the best of what's out there now and better than the previews of what is coming. No other mid-sized truck looks as good and yet simple. The GM twins look like SUVs, Toyota isn't bad except that hideous front end (of course Toyota and Lexus have ruined all of their vehicle front ends, what are they thinking everything looks the same) Ford is too rounded even the new one still looks like a baby wannabee truck. Of course Nissans bed is still the best in the business, factory spray in bedliner is toughest and cleanest looking, the utili-track system is bar none the best in the truck world. Finally painted grill and complete removal of the 1950's chrome about time! Overall the design is sleek yet rugged, chislled yet soft. They did a really good job on the looks department, this is what the ugly Titan should have looked like. Big minus for me was removal of the bed floor utili-track rails, I have always used them in past. Thank fully (sort of) my 2018 was totaled and knowing I was going to buy the 2022 I pulled the floor tracks out of my old truck and installed them in my new truck. Got the tailgate leeters they help in the looks department but Nissan does not have the grill letters (should have been a set). The Sport bar looks great but knocking Nissan as Austrailias Navarra (frontier) has sport bar and can have tunnaeu cover. The US Frontier cannot have both nor does Nissan provide tunneau cover as option like Austrailia. Also knocking that I got plain jane everyday frontier SV whhels even though I bought the premium package. The premium package is replacing the old LE/SL trims I should have had premium wheels. The Pro-4X Premium has premium wheels. Overall I give 8/10 for exterior. Driving impression, this is where a lot of improvement came. Others have complained about heavy steering, it is a truck not a Prius or Versa. I think the steering is spot on you have good feedback while driving which is what you want. The ride is way better than previous frontier by leeps and bounds. The suspension is not loose or spongey like other trucks and definitely not like my previous Frontiers. I really enjoy driving the new truck, it tracks well, shifts smooth, less road and wind noise than before. Generally it does not drive and ride like a truck which is nice finally. Much more refined and liveable. Overall I give 9/10 for driving. Power train is carry over from 2020, but is responsive and smooth. Plenty of power to get up and go. Fuel mileage is better then the 4.0l 6spd MT and the 4.0l 5spd AT from my previous frontiers. I have gotten up to 30 MPG on the highway driving no more than 65 MPH though. City average is about 20ish so not bad over all. But not where I personally think they should be. My 1984 VW Scirocco got 33 - 36 MPG with 259,000 miles on it. I think all manufactures are failing in this category. But comparing to what it replaced and its competition it is better than beofre and on par with contemporaries. They should bring back the 6spd manual though. Overall I give 8/10 for power train Dependability, Not able to rate yet, so far so good 5 months 5,000 miles no issues to report. If it holds up like my last 2 frontiers I expect long life with minimal issues. Previuos experience is the main reason I stuck with Nissan, They have built a great mid-sized truck. Overall I give 9/10 for dependability (based on 15 years of owning and driving frontiers) Warranty, it is same basic but Nissan really should give 10 year 150,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. They have built solid trucks that really have few problems. If they backed them with better warrenty it would bring more customers. Overall I give 5/10 for warranty

Nissan for work
This is my fourth Nissan ('81, '91, '12), and third bought for work as a contractor. I put 200k trouble free miles on the '12 and am hoping for the same with the '22. Inside, it's quiet and comfortable. Visibility over the taller hood is so-so. I actually like the heavy steering. Engine has good power, without the snarl of the 4.0. The 9 speed feels better on the freeway than the previous gen. The king cab doors provide decent acces to the back for gear, but nobody is going to be comfortable back there for more than a short trip, so get the CC for that. I actually took the jump seats out for more room for stuff. Outside, it sits a little higher than the previous gen, and the bed sides are higher, too. That's not really a good thing as far as working out of, but they did it for looks, and it does look good. The front doors need to be almost slammed to shut properly (king cab only issue). The truck is fairly heavily sprung so a bit of a harsh ride, you know, like a truck. The tranny does some hard downshifts when you let off the throttle in the 5-6-7 gear range occasionally, so hopefully that's not a bad omen. I do like the manual shift mode and use it in icy and snowy conditions. All in all I'm happy with it for a construction truck; I can tow a small trailer and haul my tools around. I added wet okele seat covers with lumbar support (recommended), floor mats from Costco, a trailer hitch, wiring, and brake controller from E-Trailer (recommended), and an ARE contractor canopy. Also an aftermarket back up camera because I removed the tailgate (the tailgate is great with the strut assist to raise/lower). I paid around $35k all in for a white S king cab 4x4 with the technology package.

Comfortable ride with issues 22 ProX
I've been driving my ProX for 6 months. I absolutely loved it until it completely died one day leaving me stranded in a parking lot all day with multiple error codes and a locked out transmission, engine not starting. 3 days at the dealer and all they did was clear codes and get it running again with no explanation of what happened. That was 3k miles ago and since then I've gotten ABS warning errors and glitchy performance from the infotainment system. Also the passenger door power lock doesn't correctly engage/disengage 100% of the time. Aside from these issues the truck handles well and is super comfortable on long drives. The engine has plenty of power for my needs and gas mileage is quite good for a truck (23 highway 19 around town). Adaptive cruise control works great on a flat freeway but slight grade changes cause the transmission to bump the rpms to ridiculous levels, like 5500rpm! Update 8/13/22: Upon purchase I loved my 2022 ProX. Powerful acceleration, solid handling, a thoughtfully designed and comfortable interior and handsome exterior styling made me feel like I had made the right decision. However, around 15k miles the issues began: glitchy infotainment system intelligent key errors phantom collision Braking a passenger door that properly locked only 50% of the time drivers seat changing position by itself with the car off complete breakdown with the inability to even shift to neutral for towing not once but twice leading to a transmission control module replacement at the dealer Randomly honking horn when going over potholes Engine gunning to 5-6k rpm during cruise control at the slightest incline My partner remarked she didnt feel safe in the car, fearing we would be stranded somewhere if we strayed too far from the city. Yesterday I traded for a Tacoma, even taking a financial loss, however I feel it was worth it to get out from under the Frontier. I am confident the bugs will be worked out by 2023 or 2024 but for the 2022 buyer beware.

2022 Pro 4X is AMAZING
Extremely comfortable, lots of power, diff lock is great, front could use a little more clearance, 1.5” would be perfect. Sits the same height as Tacoma stock.

Engine and Transmission review
This is a review of the drive train only for the updated Nissan Frontier Pro 4X. There have been many improvements in the 2022 Frontier. The engine and transmission are a carry over from the recent 2021 upgrade. The engine is a slight upgrade over the 4.0 L, 6 cylinder. You will find more horsepower readily available. You will also find a slight (possible hard to measure) gas milage improvement, and some added responsiveness. You will enjoy that. The transmission is another story. There seems to be vast pressure on all companies to increase their automatic transmissions to 8 or 9 speeds and to alter the computer shift mapping to move the car into as high a gear as possible. They clearly went too far and have developed issues. The car will go to the highest gear, whether it drives well at that gear or not. You will also find that it will not properly downshift to first gear when you come to a stop sign (or down shift when driving slowly). I have found myself driving with manual mode too often to compensate. Many people will like the transmission, but I am not a fan or 9 speeds. I believe 7 with better downshifting would be better.
