Awesomeness on 4 wheels

I normally would never have purchased a Mitsubishi anything but, while in Europe for work, I rented this model on 2 separate occasions. The first occasion was for a drive from Germany to Italy (11 hours from where I was). The car handled great, was very comfortable and roomy enough (I'm 6'7"), and the fuel economy really impressed me. The second occasion was to travel across Germany from the most western part to Berlin (7 hrs with traffic/road construction). There were 4 of us and we thoroughly enjoyed the comfort, size and the easy transition from highway to driving into the heart of the city. When it was time to buy a new vehicle I had absolutely no doubts as to what I wanted. I'm impressed with the V6 power and I like the ability to choose what type of driving performance at the touch of a button. With the AWD I don't worry about any sudden weather changes in winter or rainy season.

I wasn't in the market for a car. Was looking for something for a 3rd row for my sister. The Outlander GT caught my attention because I really liked its lines. This car is like a big station wagon with some ground clearance. I'll never use the 3rd row seat, but I have a great amount of space in the back with the third row folded down. There is also lots of space for passengers in the rear seat. Just had adult friends sitting in the back, and they had at least a few inches of space between their knees and the front seats. I just drove it from Philly to Cape Cod and back, and it was a very nice ride. Back wasn't sore, plenty of power to pass, and no complaints from adults in the back seat. Also had plenty of room for luggage in the back. Only thing I noticed was that if you have to floor it to get our of a hairy situation, the engine is really loud. That happened a couple times, but overall, cruising in the left lane and merging on to the highways was done easily and quietly. I'll never use the paddle shifters, so I can't write anything about them. Visibility is great. It really feels like a station wagon inside, which I like. It drives more like a truck, which I also like. It reminds me of Jeeps and pick-ups that I've owned in the past. It's probably less carlike than its competitors. The audio system is great. I have to take the time to read the manuals to figure some stuff out, which I'll probably never do. I hope there are some overrides so I can make some changes to music or nav system while driving. A passenger was trying to do some stuff that could not be done if I wasn't in park. An Iphone was also unable to configure with the audio system while I was driving. I love the power lift-gate that can be operated with the remote. Also like the push-button start, and being able to lock/unlock doors without taking key out of my packet. I've seen reviews that say the interior looks cheap, but it looks ok to me. The fake wood is minimal, and the vented leather on the seats looks great. I do hate putting premium fuel in it, but I drive less than most people, so that didn't bother me too much. I got the car used. It was a dealer demo, and I got a really good deal on it. I would never pay the MSRP for it, but for what I payed, I think it's a great car/truck...whatever it is. Hope to have it for a long time. Going to add a remote starter, and then I'm happy as a clam. The 2016 has the power fold in mirrors. I miss having that feature. April, 2017 update. I've put about 15k miles on car, and I still like it a lot. Don't love it though. Only complaints are that there is noticeable wind noise on the highway, and it takes big bumps pretty hard, especially the rear wheels. Other than that, no complaints from me. Car has plenty of space and it's very comfortable. With seats folded flat I can jam in 15 - 20 bags of mulch. I love the stereo, and that solves the wind noise problem for me. Back seat passengers have great space. I never use the 3rd row, so there is a ton of space in the cargo area. I have the white exterior with light tan leather, and I think it looks great. Maybe kind of soccer mommish, but I like how bright it is. I got a comment the other day that it still smells like a new car. I've had no mechanical issues, and twice I've left the interior light on overnight and it still started in the morning. That really surprised me. Had one big snow storm this winter, and it got through it like a champ. October, 2021 still like the car. it's still a little loud from wind noise and ride, but it's been very reliable. my biggest connoisseur is the thin paint. I've never had a car with so many chips on hood and front bumper just from stuff getting kicked up into from highway driving. some spots are actually rusting a little bit.

Given some circumstances unique to my situation, I ended up having to purchase a 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander in November. I did not set out to buy this kind of vehicle, and I did not know what I was going to be getting, but I have been very pleased with it after three months and several thousand miles. Based on my experience I would recommend this SUV to others in the market.

2015 GT Touring AWD Pros: Smooth ride/balanced handling, roomy first and second row, powerful V6, quality craftsmanship. Cons: Needs more sound insulation, no power front passenger seat, no second or third row HVAC vents, no auto-dimming rear-view mirror. (All these cons were mitigated on the 2019 model.) Purchased used in 2019 with 42K miles as a replacement for my 2004 Montero Limited (201K miles). It serves as my daily car, serviced per the normal maintenance schedule, regular gas can be used but I go with the recommended premium. Now the mileage is 91K and I haven’t had any problems. The car is easy to maneuver, and the controls are straight forward. There is quite a bit of people room too. I’m 6’2” and my son is 6’4”. Back when I had to chauffer him and his lanky friends around, four of us could fit without issue. The third row is small, and folds flat to make for more room in the cargo area. The cargo hold is spacious, has underfloor storage, and full carpeting. This car is a large compact. Sitting lower and longer than the CRV, RAV4, & CX5. I think the interior quality is on par with the competition. I'm no expert though. AWD offers four modes and even provides torque distribution for the front axle. I recommend this vehicle. Update 24July2023, mileage = 102,721 Had the major service done just before 100k because we had a roundtrip from NC to MN coming up. The service included new timing belt, water pump, air and cabin filters, spark plugs, oil change/tire rotation. Car performed well before, during and after the trip. One more con about this model year, door window switches are not illuminated. Still a great car though. Update 25January2024, mileage = 107,500 Front brakes & brake fluid replaced, engine & cabin filters changed, and oil changed since last update. Although not supple, the leather seats are holding up quite well. I wax the car and condition the leather three times per year (spring, summer, fall). Also, based on my experience, using top-tier gas helps cars run smoother and last longer. And it's very interesting how the price of top-tier is usually the same as the off-brand gasolines here in NC. Update 25July2024, mileage = 118,774 Oil change and tire rotation just performed. Discovered a few paint chips on the leading edge of the roof (where the windshield meets the roof). Covered them with touch up paint. Washed and waxed the car. One more quirk, the doors automatically unlock, but don't automatically lock. The vehicle is running great and holding up well. Update 15January2025, mileage = 123974 Wouldn't start, had car battery replaced, tires rotated, and rear brakes/rotors replaced. Update 29July2025, mileage = 132047 Had oil changed at 130k.AC stopped producing cold air around 131K miles, service shop replaced the hoses and charged the system; that fixed it. Time for new tires the next time we have it serviced.
