Blue Smoke
I bought the car used with 46k miles and it's been very reliable. Having the timing belt changed could be a bit expensive at $450 each recommended service change. Warning! Somewhere around the 96K, I started seeing blue smoke coming from the tailpipe. The dealership told me it was the valves and it would cost $3000 to repair. A friend told me it was common problem with most late model Mitsubishi vehicles. And to take notice on my way home, I took notice and it appeares that all the late models I saw did smoke.
Great car
It's a great car, comfortable and quite fast for a mid-category family car, excellent for weekend trips and everyday use too. The interior could be more pretty, especially the color, but the interior is very well designed and practical. Surprisingly good sound system as it comes from the factory.
Nice car!
Trouble free auto 144000 miles. All power accessories work fine. Double wishbone suspension at all corners make this car very agile. With H rated and traction A tires this baby loves to be tossed through the curves, and at it's limits sliding is predictable, smooth and controlled with minimum understeer. A drivers car! Four valves per cylinder, sequential electronic fuel injection and factory headers for intake and exhaust translate into tire spinning low power torque when the pedal is stomped. All original power train and exhaust (stainless steel) Real reliable car. All paid for and not interested in a new car.
Check timming belt
I bought a galant in 1999 the 5spd w/sunroof. I wanted a family car with a soorty look so I was attracted to the Galant. It ran well causing little problems alternator, battery, brake pads, rotors, and lights. It had 124k on it when I got it. I heard a squealing sound one day and had the belts changed so I thought but they did not change the timming belt and by it being a 5spd it jumped timming and it was the end. I had just paid it off too.
Decent, eloquently decent
I just bought the car a few days ago and it runs beautifully and handles like a true sports car should. I found it to be very stylish and affordable and it also seems very easily serviceable. The only thing is that there is no power anything except steering and brakes and The A/C doesn't work well.
