Used 1996 Mitsubishi Galant Consumer Reviews
Super car
I have had this car for 4 years and it is now 7 years old. Great car. Well made and well laid out. New ones are even better, except that they dont have the fold down seat of these older ones. My 2.4ltr 4-cyl engine has 160,000 miles and no problems made a couple of east to west coast round trips. Its also easy to work on yourself.
Car w/ Problems
I purchased this vehicle used & later found out that it had been in an accident. There are some problems w/ the transmission & my air conditioning is slipping away. I've received a couple recall notices regarding the bearings & I've had to invest way too much money on this car.
Great Car
I bought my '95 Galant with 19,000 miles on it and drove to about 150,000 (and that was after being rearended by a semi around 60,000 miles). The only complaint I had with the car was expensive timing belts and finally a fluke that caused me to sell it. My wife took the car one day, she called me and said it was running funny. So,we had it towed to a local shop. They said that the a/c belt had come off. When the a/c belt broke, it got sucked up under the timing belt cover. The shop replaced the timing belt and the pulleys, but it never ran right after that, so I sold it. Had it not been for that fluke I'd still be driving it today.
hidden problems
right after I bought the car I had transmission troubles, wheel bearings gone, cracked crank case - all of which was replaced under warranty. But now my AC is gone. The Transmission is again slipping/hesitating and the car 'feels' like it has other things planned for me. I just wish I had bought the Used Altima I was comparing it against.
Not a Toyota, Nissan or Honda, But
Good handling, but the automatic transmission and motor are not as reliable as a Toyota, Honda or Nissan. If I sell it I will definitely buy one of this other japanese cars.
