Satisfied customer
I looked at this car for three years before I bought one in 1991. I had owned a Colt. I have had the transmission rebuilt at about 170,000 miles, and the vehicle will turn 290,000 miles next week. My only other costs have been routine. The radio and tape player still work. The air conditioner is still great with regular maintenance. I may drive to the dealership when I hit 300,000 just to treat the salesman.
Fabulous, fun car
This has been a great car - always fun to drive. Enjoyed especially the turbo charged engine, manual transmission, a fine CD/audio system, the AWD. Low miles due to working lots out of town - do not even consider replacement as it would cost a huge amount to get a car of this quality in today's market. I don't expect to ever have another such super car; it's a shame they only marketed the VR-4 turbos in 1991 (2000 of them) and in 1992.
good for 278K
After 275K it's time to trade up to next gen. Galant. Has been reliable over long trips. Faithful oil changing has been about the only maintenance done. Tranny replaced only once!
Second Time Around
Bought my 1991 Mitsubishi Galant from a one-owner lady with 163,000 miles on it, in 2/2002. It came with a shoe-box full of every receipt ever written on maintenance came with the car. We've driven it another 48,000 miles in three years. It is a super car. We have been coast-to-coast several times. It handles Montana winters like it's still in Florida. It gives me 30/33 mpg, and cruises at 80 MPH. After 211,000 miles, it uses a quart of oil every 1,500 miles, Mobil 1. I may keep it forever.
Wish Mitsubish still made them this well
My 90 Galant was the best, most reliable vehicle I ever owned. Finally got a new Olds Intrigue because I got bored driving the same car for so long. Kept it for 125,000 miles. Just minor repairs near the end. Except the A/C did give out at 10 years. Lasted longer than other, newer cars in the family. The new Mitsubish Galant does not seem to be up to the same standard.
Fantastic, Fun Car!
We bought our Galant almost new from a dealing in TX. This was the greatest car I have ever owned! It was sporty, handled great, very comfortable. This car was reliable and took us on trips across the country a couple of times. Never had a problem with it. Had a friend who owned an $85,000 sports car ride in it and she kept saying How much did you pay for this? It's a great car, very luxurious. ....Unfortunately we traded it in for a minivan, wish we hadn't.
best car ever
this by far is the best car ever made! i've had my share of cars (5) in the span of about 3 years and my galant was perfect. well built, very comfortable, very reliable and can i say zoom! zoom! zoom! too bad the tranny went in the end and i had to junk it. perfect handling on s turns and absolutely no problems with the motor after my inability to keep the car under 110 mph on the highway.
good car
excellent car. very reliable. no major problems after 150,000. A/C pumps out more cold air than any other vehile I have ever owned.
sweeeeeet!!!!!
This car rules! I have had no major problems. Mine has 163k on it and it is still going strong. I regularly get 28 mpg. I recommend this beast to everyone. It has massive amounts of power delivered through a sweet 5 speed tranny. I have had no engine trouble, (even with my inability to keep it under 125!)
Great driver's car
I am parting company with my Galant (getting a new car) but should pay proper tribute here by saying it's one of the best cars I've ever owned. If Mitsubishi still made a snappy 5-speed that handles the way my '90 did I'd buy it.
1st and Probably Best Car I'll Ever Own
I bought this car as a senior in high school. It was already 9 yrs old. I thought at best it would last me a few yrs, not even through college. Boy was I wrong. It has lasted me 6 yrs, and is still kicking! It has given me no problems whatsoever, except for some expected wear and tear. It handles great. It is surprisingly roomy, especially the back seat. At high speeds it rides smoothly, and has low road noise. The power button gives me the extra boost when I need it. The AC works great, I have never had to fix it. The acceleration is not that great but once it goes it really goes! I'm reluctantly getting a new car now though. It's been a long time coming. I'll miss you.
Superlative!
Bought this car because I had fallen on hard times and had to sell my Forerunner and 300SD Benz. Turned out to be the best automobile purchase I have ever made!. Car drives like a dream and is exceptionally comfortable. In terms of reliability, it is without peer. All that is required is the usual oil change. A/C is still extremely cold. I'm planning on getting a bimmer soon but, out of sheer respect, I'll be keeping this little gem until it can no longer run.
Best Car I've ever owned !
I Bought this car in March of 02'. I just Sold it on Jan 6, 2003. The most reliable, Dependable, Car I've ever owned. I bought her with 170k miles and she purred till I sold her at 192k. Even at that kinda mileage I never replaced more than the Oil and a battery! I would recommend this vehicle to anyone with a couple thousand dollars.
Best car I ever owned
I've owned 14 cars over a period of 24 years and this is far and away the best. It is very intelligently designed and has given me no major problems. 160,000 miles and still running with only typical maintenance so far. It's smooth and quiet compared to most other cars of its class- feels like you're going slower than you actually are. Feels really good driving it- can't really explain. Comfortable to drive. Maybe I just got a particularly good one, but looking at the ratings, I'm guessing they're all this good. If you find a used one in good shape, don't pass it up! I honestly love this car.
Great Car
This car is built like a bullet, it has all the basics. I have driven it for over 135000 miles, and i have had only minor problems
Great used rally car at a low cost
Even though it's almost worthless, it is irreplacable at a much higher cost. It's a car with such a unique combination of style, performance, feature and practicality. It was a shame that it doesn't come to North America anymore.
1991 Galant
My Galant is still running with 160000 miles on it. In 13 years, besides regular maintenance, I have spent around $2000 in repair cost. Excellent vehicle. I said I would purchase another Galant once this one dies, but it's still running!
galant vr4
the car is a family sports car.
Good quality over the years
This car has 206,000 miles and is still going. It has had the transmission rebuilt and $600 worth of brake repairs, but other than that there have been no major problems over its life. The cruise control, turbo and overdrive on/off options no longer worked after 200,000 miles but the car still goes. It is still dependable as a commuter car or as a first car for a teenager.
Ultimate Sleeper
From one generation to the other we always have a Mitsubishi or two. I was trying to purchase a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX, but the deal didnt go through. Luckily I met this guy at the shop where they are building & turboing my 8th Generation Galant & bought a 1991 Galant from him. I have had it for two weeks and I can't wait to have the fastest 91-94 Galant here in Vegas.
Appalling Acceleration, bad fuel mileage
A solid, well built car which is comfortable. The LS with automatic transmission is has terrible acceleration. For reasons only known to Mitsubishi they have an overdrive switch and a power/economy switch. Possibly the overdrive is good on freeway driving but mileage is below 18 mpg in town whatever mode used. Do not buy an automatic! Otherwise car is good at handling, easy to drive, lot of room and comportable. Why they bother with fuel injection I do not know.
Serious problem with gear box !!!
Has serious problem with gear system. My car has only 120K and the gear box broke !!! and I dont know what comes next. Very expensive spare parts ..
Great fun car
Aside from a rebuilt transfer case (which Mitsubishi paid for even though the car, at the time, was 15 years old and had 140,000 miles on it) the car has been great. Probably the most fun car I have driven. Even now with 200,000 miles on it - and I think the past owner was rough on it - it is great to drive. The car was way ahead of its time. It handles well (with 4 wheel steering), great traction (with AWD), good gearbox.
