Wow.
I bought my GSX brand spankin new off the lot in 1999, and wow- what a car. This baby packs a wallup- if you know what I mean. The AWD system allows you to hook up all those ponies when you step on it, and makes it much safer in the winter as well. I got more speeding tickets in this thing than any other car, ever. However, they never caught me top-speed testing her, and that's a good thing. 133 is way fast enough for me. Oh, and it's a very comfortable car at speed, or just crusing around in as well.
Love this car!
I bought this used car in 2001 with 20k mileages. I drove it for almost 8 years without major problem. The several minor problems: Remote Locker on the left door not work well, sometime would not unlock or lock. I had 1 accident due to rain wet road, crashed the left tire and front bumper after slipped into the shoulder of road. Fixed and runs good. Right now it is 74k and still runs good. I would want to keep it until 200k but due to my wife can't drive 5 speed manual so I have to give it up.

Great first car!
For the two years which I've had my car its been great, especially because it has hardly cost me much on repairs. With 18" rims the look is great and sporty, and a loud exhaust to top it off, love the way it turns heads, it's been a great first car and hope to keep it till it dies out!
Eclipse Turbo - Great Car
Fabulous Car. Has not caused a single problem. Only reason I plan to sell is that this car is not suited to a family of four. Even my wife, who does not like to drive with manual trasmission, loves to drive the Eclipse.
Fun
when i first got this car i was like yeah this is alsome. But as time went on i started havin to many breakdowns. it only cost a grand to get it back in perfect shape. now thats it's goin good its the best car i have ever had.
1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX
I bought this car used and I've had it for around 10 years now and counting. I've honestly have had no problems with my car, it's always been reliable since the day I bought it. For the past 4-5 years I've modified the car and race in the SCCA with it. It puts out 300hp on a dyno. This car beats SVT Mustangs and Corvettes around the circuit, and even beat a Dodge Challenger 6.1 HEMI in a drag race. It has the 4G63 engine, which is the same engine as the Mitsubishi EVO. With that in mind and the all wheel drive and turbo, these cars are unique and getting hard to find. I will never sell my car.
Best vehicle you will find for the money
If you like speed and you like having one of the best looking cars on the road then you have to get yourself this car. If your gonna buy an eclipse you have to get a turbo (I repeat) Make sure you get a turbo. puts some 17's on it and an exaust and get a blow off valve for the turbo you'll be the envy of every high school kid in town. all this = you being cool
The best car i have own !!!
All around good car but the engine is by far the best thing.
Extremely Unreliable
Like may youngsters, I chose Eclipse to be my first car out of the college in 12/06. With the lil money I could spend, I wanted a decent sports car but this one is highly unreliable. To name a few problems - engine oil leaks heavily, door handles broken, power window button set broken, poor battery and alternator system, cheap brakes, emission problems, bad oxygen sensors and poor efficiency 17mpg in the city and about 21mpg on hwy to name a few. It broke several times on the road and would not start and got it towed at least 5 times in the last 2 years. However, when it runs it is fun to drive and looks great from outside and inside.
Eclipse GS Trade
I've had a very positive experience with this car. It's dependable, fuel efficient and fun to drive.
GSX is a great machine
I love driving this car!!! Ever since the day I test drove it I fell in love with it. The ALL-WHEEL-DRIVE truly makes a difference. I'm impressed with this plant as well you can easily pump 300hp from this car with a few modifications.
Great sporty car
I really love this car because of several points: - it's got a really good sporty young look - people have been telling me that they prefered the 1999 model to the 2000, which I agree with! I bought it in Oct. 2000 so I had the choice and I just liked the look so much - the acceleration you get with the Turbo is good and you get such a feeling of speed - the car is easy to control, even with speed in turns - the low sitting of the car does give an extra sporty feel This car has been good to me over the past 5 years almost. No major things to replace or what.
Mitsubishi eclipse gs
I love driving it! The oz rims are really cool and the arched rear fin looks really good. only take it to a mitzubishi dealer for any work other than basic mainenance. recall on the lower front ball joints mitzubishi dealer took care of the replacement free. I had the timing belt/egr valve replaced at 80k as well as replacing the plug wires cost about $1500. squealing noises from engine pulleys in rain, dealer said it was nothing to worry about. suspension squeaked after driving on salted roads.
Lot of Fun miles
A very fun car to drive. I put a lot of mile on this car. Never had any major problems. Both the front drive shafts were replaced under a recall by the dealor free of charge. Only other problem I has ws the spark plugs and the wires. They went bad at 35K and 68K. No problem since.. still running greak after 161K miles.. Really good car
Awesome
It's amazing, I love it. I wish it was faster but that will come in time.
Fun to drive
I got the car over a year ago with around 40K on it. I decided to put a kit on it and some black HS rims. I hit a curb doing like 15 mph and the car was like totaled. The entire bumper, gone. It was too low to the ground. The impact cracked both of my custom fenders. About two weeks later the exterior door handle fell off. About a week later my battery died. Week later someone scraped my entire left fender on the left side. The brakes and wheels started squeaking about a month later. I was ready to total my expensive investment by doing 100 into a wall. However things began to look up with my brother being a car mechanic. I haven't had any mechanical issues. Fun to drive.
my review
i love my car its my best friend.i wouln'd take nothin for it.
My first car....its awesome!!
This is my first car. I bought it at 55K miles. Did standard servicing (timing belt , water pump etc) at 65K. Never died on me, never has given me any trouble. The door sealant leaks in summer-minor annoyance. I added a CAI and front and rear strut bars. Also changed to 16 inch wheels with 225P55R16 yokohama ES100 summer tires. Handles great now. Could definitely use more HP and torque. Not very fast off the starting block but it sure does look and sound fast!! Interior is very sporty. Could use a short throw stick. Trunk space is amazing, especially when the rear seats are folded down. What can I say about the exterior? Thankfully they are bringing back the sleek curvy look for the 05.
Not the best but . . .
Only a few problems. Door panels leaked tar (day to fix). Driver side door handle broke off. Input sensor failed (day to fix). Output sensor failed (day to fix).
No problems, 54,000 miles and going!
I haven't has a single problem with this car itself since purchase. The factory stereo/CD player, however, had to be replaced because the CD player stopped working. Overall, the car is tight, smooth, and fun to drive.
Not One Problem
I purchased my 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse new late in 1999. It currently has a little over 56,000 miles on it now - in November 2005. I have not had one single problem with it, ever. I have used synthetic oil every 5,000 miles from day one. I have only replaced the tires and battery, that's it.
change the bodystyle
i have never had any problems with my car the only thing i don't like is the engine alarm because i hate to rely on a litle plastic thing to use my car also there is only one car key to my car due to this alarm and when i missplace my keys which happens i can't go anywhere
Sick ride
The Mitsubishi Eclipse is very expensive to maintan, yet very fun to drive. It eats gas if you have a heavy foot and it takes only premium, which can be expensive. With around $1,000 in modifications, you'll easily be able to get 250+ hp.
It's been real
I'm soon turning in the Eclipse for something bigger because I'm 6' 4". Other than that, I've owned the car for two years, and I haven't really had any major problems. The only problems I've had is having to change a couple of belts, and the alternator went. In two years of ownership, only about $800 in repairs, which isn't bad for a vehicle with 75K miles.
peer fun
nothing but fun to drive
Good car
I bought this car 2 years ago and have put almost 30,000 pain free miles on. It's known for a few odd problems, a few of which I think were fixed before I bought it(head gasket), and a few I fixed(valve cover gasket, heater hoses and clamps). Other than that and routine up keep it's been a great little car.
Door Handles
I have had my Eclipse for four years now and I am so happy to be finally getting rid of it. Don't get me wrong, it is really fun to drive-when it isn't in the repair shop. On top of numerous little repairs, I have had to replace both sets of belts twice and am about to replace one of them again. I have also had both door handles fall off in the past year and a half. I only recomend this car to someone that is prepared to put at least $1000 per year into the repairs after the warrenty is up.
AWD Rocks
I bought this car used back in October 2001. I traded in a 2000 Eclipse GT for this car. And by far, the GSX has thrilled me everytime I drive it. Great performance for a car. Everyone who've I've taken for a spin in it has fallen in love and is impressed as much as I am when driving it.
Good Car
This was my 3rd eclipse to own and I had better luck with the non-turbo GS that I had traded in for the GST. The repairs are very costly and the dealer with charge you as much as they can to work on the turbo model. The timing belts are the downfall to this car, they have to be replaced at 60,000 and it is over $500.00 to do this the right way. I loved this car but it did not last as long as I thought a 23,000 car would as far as realiability.
Fun first car
This is my first car, and it is a lot of fun to drive. I haven't really driven any other cars as much as i have driven this one so i cant really compare it to much else. So far I have put about 5,000 miles on it and I have to say it's a great car. It accelerates pretty well for the 2.0 liter non turbo engine and it handles very well. It can corner at some pretty high speeds. :)
Fun to drive
Well, I got the GS sports package so it looks like a GST/GSX which is really nice. I bought the car with 99,750 miles, but the people had the car since it was brand new! The car was also in immaculate condition. The things that make me upset is the doors leak black tar, and the car has a small oil leak. But other then that, good car so far.
great fast car
1999 was the last year of the turbo eclipse. It is one of the greatest cars ever produced. The engine provides the platform for unlimited horsepower. Overall an excellent vehicle.
Awesome Car
This car is an awesome machine, 4 cylinder with v8 power. Very stylish and i just love it. wouldnt change a thing. 17's from the factory. Spend $600.00 on performance parts and your in the 13's for a 1/4 mile. This thing rules!
Gs-t's are Great
I love my car. It's fun to drive and gets a lot of stares when I'm going down the road. There is no better enjoyment the stoping at a red light, then hammering it when it turns green. If you want to have fun, with serious power for a low insurance price, then the gs-t is for you.
Awesome ass car
I always wanted to get into the driver side of the mitsubishi Eclipse and when I did I got a rush because i topped the car out and it was the best feeling in the world to have.
Great performance from an economy car.
I have had this car for four years now and have had no major problems. Actually, I've never had any minor problems either. I even changed the timing belt myself (this took a lot longer than I originally thought it would, the engine space is tiny and difficult to work in). I have treated this car pretty poorly (infrequent oil changes and generally late servicing) and it has responded with continued great performance.
quality car
Its an absolutly great car that is a thrill to drive. Ive only had mine for about a half of a year but it's been a great half of a year and will only get better
What an awesome machine
I bought my Eclipse used with 32000 miles. It is as good as new and is an incredible car. I love the performance and the feel as it hugs the road. I've added my own 215/45/17 alloy wheels and this baby can corner. I've put 12000 miles on in the last 8 months, and she is a screamer.
gabe's review
great-fun to drive= fast even with 4 cyl. strongly recommend..
Cool little sports car
This car is great, I put aftermarket parts on myine and it looks awesome. I get comments all the time on my car, people always ask ask me what it is.
Fun car
This has been a great little car. I get over 30 mpg hwy and 25 mpg city.
Sweet
It took a long time for me to finally find this car, but it was well worth it. This car is beautiful and a ton of fun to drive. I have only had this car for a about 3 months but I have experienced no problems or flaws in its performance. I highly recommend this car.
1999 Mitsubishi eclipse GST
Not the fastest not too much room but one of the best driving experience I find myself grabbing the eclipse keys more then my new mustang GT as of now the motor blew! But not giving up on that car its Worth fixing will be on the road again in no time making those sweet turbo sounds stuhh stuhhhu😁
The Perfect First Car!
This was my first car and it was wonderful! I bought it in 2002 and it ran well for about 7 years without any major issues. The timing belt went but it's likely on all eclipses. It rides well and is very sporty looking. I'd recommend this car to anyone.
1999 mitsubishi eclipse
ive had my eclipse for a year now and enjoy the smooth ride and the speed of my eclipse.
Be carefull
Just got back from the dealership (TEMPE Mitsubishi) with my daughters 99 RS. $1800 in routine maintenance. The car has 42000 miles on it. Fortunatly the head gasket was covered by warrenty or it would have been more. Basically the dealer said the waterpump, timing belt, pulleys, hoses, belts , and motor mounts were shot. In a moment of weakness I authorized work without getting a second opinion.I was on the edge of the warrenty. Dealer says these repairs are standard at 60000 mi.
Buy It New or Don't Buy It
This car was one of the worst investments I've ever made. It's cute and fun to drive, but it has consistently fallen apart on me. I've even had the door locks fixed three times - they keep falling into the door. My trunk hasn't ever opened and my horn only works sometimes. Little things that shouldn't break on a car seem to always break on my car. I can't wait to sell it.
Best Ryde I have ever had
I love this ryde! I have always dreamed about an Eclipse and I actually got it! IT IS THE BEST!! I love it! I customized it! I was going 130 mpg on it and even did not feel that! NICE! BEST ONE IN A MARKET! I was changing my cars couple times a year but this one I would keep FOREVER!
You Go Girl...With Your Bad Self!!
I bought this car brand new from the lot, no mileage. I 've had no problem with it. I love to take it on the road, I gone 100mph without even realizing the speed. It will get you there in no time! I wouldn't trade it for anything. This is a car I will forver keep and drive. Tge gas mileage is excellent. It is a five speed ....and drives good. No major problem. I change the oil, and rotate and balance the tires regularly.
nice
nice..go back to the earlier styling with your eclipses...the new ones blow.
