I bought a 1993 Mistubishi Eclipse GS with 138000 miles on it in September of 2000. Now at first, the mileage seemed high, but after doing some research i came to the conclusion that most of these cars had high miles because young, prolific drivers were owning them. In the three years i've owned the car, the only problems i've had (keep in mind this is an eleven year old car) were the slave cylinder of the clutch assembly began leaking, and the bearings in the auto tensioner pulley were bad. a grand total of $120 in mitsu parts over a three year period, on an eleven year old car. That's reliablility.

It has been 19 years since I bought my bright white GS and it has been one of the most reliable cars I've ever owned. That is saying a lot. I am not overly hard on my cars, maintain them as needed. The build quality of this car was evident from the day I bought it. Very easy to drive and maintain. Cruises at 70mph just below 2000RPM all day. Even at 215,000 miles, it is a great car to drive everyday. All original engine and transmission components still working fine. Home run car.

I got this car back in 2002 with 128,000 miles or so. When I got it the car had had so much abuse that I wondered if I had made a good choice. Nevertheless I had some work done on it (the timing belt at 140,000 miles was crucial as I was told it was never changed before) and the car is doing great. A few more things need some work (like the front axle needing replacement) but I still get 30 mpg on the highway and about 25 in town.

I got my Eclipse as my first car, and it has never died on me. I had a lot of work done to it when I first got it, but now she runs, and accelerates when I need it to. It seems to be impervious to tickets.
Great car even after abuse.

When I bought my car (it's my baby now) it had been horribly abused to the tune of 2 engines & 3 transmissions. When we got it the engine & transmission were rebuilt. It needed a new water pump, all new motor mounts, new belts, & a front cv axle (I think that's what the axel was called). We got it all fixed & now my transmission (it's Automatic) is jumping from drive into neutral until it gets hot so you have to hold it for a bit. Once we fix that & get a paint job b/c mine is all powdery it will be good as new. It's been through a lot but with a little TLC this car way rocks!! ~Princess~

This is a great car. I have one and my parents do too. If you are about to buy one make sure that the timing belt has been changed every 60,000 miles. If the belt breaks the engine dies. Another common problem is with the idle control on the AIS motor. Both my car and my parents have had this problem. Other than that, I haven't had any problems since I bought mine used in 1997. This vintage (92-94) is the best looking of the diamond star cars. I get 26 mpg. If you want a truly fast car go with a turbo but good luck finding a car this old that is a turbo that is in good shape. have fun

I've had my 93 GSX for over 4 years and I'm still in love with it. There is a huge aftermarket, and spending relatively little money in the right places can yield huge gains. On the street, nothing on four wheels, short of another AWD turbo car (or a musclecar on drag slicks) can hang with my GSX- especially from a stop. 93 and 94 are the best years of any DSM (ok, 93 was the last year of the DSM, but 90- 99 are generally considered DSMs). I've owned 8 V8 FBodies with plenty of mods each, this car is faster, and more practical (with AWD) than any of them.
Dependable and fun

I bought this car with 87k on it, now it has 187k. My only major repairs have been a new alternator and new brakes, as well as the normal timing belts etc. Showing its age now: incurable oil leak, A/C has leak, heater takes forever to pump out warmth, seats falling apart. Lots of fun to drive. I get around 35 mpg, mostly highway (where have car makers been the last 15 years if my ancient car gets better mileage than new ones?!). That said, I won't let my 20- year-old kid drive it: HORRIBLE blind spots, dim headlights and freezing in winter. Plus, at 6', he hardly fits in it. Also the engine is a little underpowered when the AC is on, especially on start-up on hills. The back seat is a joke.

I bought a Mitshubishi Eclpise 1993 in the year 2002, I could've gotten a Nissan 2002, but when my eyes set on the bright red paint of the eclipse I fell in love with it. Even though it has 9 Years on it and 120000 miles, it sounds and feels as if you were driving a 2002 aports car, it doesn't eat up alot of fuel, and you paolpe know it's the finest car out there. This eclipse is going to last me for a long time!

I got my car with 253000 miles. I got it with the cv axle broken and had to replace it and the engine mounts. But when I got these small problems fixed it's kinda reliable. One of my problems has been with the mass air flow sensor. Overall it gets me the sixty miles a day I have to go. I'm happy with my purchase and I may buy another with a bigger engine because I love the look of this car.

I used to have a 93 eclipse, 1.8 liter, 5 speed. I was in love with it, i LOVED driving it, it NEVER let me down. It just kept on going. The only reason i got rid of it, was to get a 2002 spyder eclipse!

My '93 Eclipse is the best car that I have ever had. There was just one thing that was wrong with it and that was the spare tire was too small. Other than that, the car is so cool. It's fast and I look good in it.

I have been driven this car for about a year. And now it got 120500 miles on it. The 4G63 engine is strong. Since the car is 11 years old, its parts began to break down... like engine mounts and drive axles... Anyway, I still like this car.

Don't get me wrong on this car, it is a sports car! However, this is one of the poorest made Japanese cars I have ever owned (it's a runner-up to it's bigger brother '93 3000GT which I also owned). When it ran, it ran fine then the bugs came out. The car had an usual oil leak that leaked into the engine (something to do with the seals) so no oil was present on the ground couldn't figure out what was going on with it. Idiot lights were continuously cutting on and it wasn't because of faulty fuses, there were many electrical and mechanical bugs in this car. It was asthetically pleasing to look at, but not just in the driveway. My '90 300ZX was far better than both the Eclipse and 3000GT.

I've got about 126,000 miles on my car and some how it hasn't broken down or left me stranded anywhere so I think I either got lucky or its just a decent car.

The 1993 Mitsubishi Eclipse is an OK vehicle if you have at least a 2.0 liter engine. The 1.8 liter, which puts out a whopping 92 horsepower, doesn't have enough power to make it up a hill, if you have an automatic transmission. The cooling system is good. The interior plastic trim panels are very cheap and don't hold their designated spot for very long.

Growing up I remember all the parts that wore out on my parents' cars. The only parts that wore out on my Eclipse have been front brakes and the battery. My parents replaced shocks, mufflers, thermostats, radiator hoses and belts, distributers, fuses, bulbs, brakes, etc., etc. The Eclipse has started everytime. My parents cars would often be difficult to start. We had a Ford wagon that was difficult to stop the motor. American car companies showed a lack of respect, even disdain, for the customer when they were making so much money and so many lemons at the same time. Japanese show respect by building solid vehicles from econo cars up.

Car is nearly 10 years old (87,000 miles). The engine is very strong and reliable. The electronics are an abomination. I've gone thru 4 computers - 2 in the last year! Shorts everywhere. The dash molding was falling apart after 1 year. The paint job is horrendous. It is now more like powder. I've never seen this on another Eclipse, but can't explain my situation. Car was garage-kept for the first 6 years, and waxed at least once per year (usually 2-3) and hand washed.

Very Fun to drive. Is a manual and goes very fast. The car is very compact and I'm a high school girl, so great for highschoolers. Can't fit a lot of people in the car. Great Handling.
