great car
I bought this car new and have only had reliability. I have only done routine maintenance. Never broken down or replaced parts other than brakes, tires, and muffler. I have over 155,000 miles. It still rides it did new. Great riding comfort and pickup. I get about 27 miles highway and 24 around town. If they were still made I would buy another!
Loved it... at first!!
When I first got my Diamante I was extremely excited. I thought the interior was amazing! It was semi luxury> leather seats, seat warmers, memory seating, it was nice. Then out of no where my heater stopped working along with my radio after my first 2 months. Now my car randomly dies took it to 4 different shops, no one can figure it out. I bought the car for 3800 and have already put $3000 worth of electrical work into it. The ride sounds loud and not that smooth. Its a nice car but beware it is known to have electrical problems and they are not cheap!
Nightmare
I have had nothing but problems with my 2000 Mitsubishi Diamante. The last one is the famous heater core leakage problem. Just google for "Diamante heatercore" and you will see It is a known problem and Mitsubishi knows about it but is not doing anything. This problem costs $700 - $900 to repair or you will be poisoned inhaling antifreeze. Also, the 60,000 mile service costs $1,500 for a car not worth even $9,000. I will never purchase a Mitsuibishi again.
Happy with my Diamante
I purchased my 2000 Mitsubishi Diamante in Dec. 2003. I did a lot of online research before purchasing and found that most of the people complain about its fast depreciation, but praise reliability of the car. I was looking for a good used car, so fast depreciation was a good news. Why pay $36,000 for a new, when you can get a great used car for $12,000? So, I found a Diamante with 55,000 miles online and drove it home. For two years that I owned this car I just did regular maitainance (oil, transmission fluid, brakes, put new set of tires). I had no problem with transmission, it shifts perfectly. I didn't have any problems with the heat-core either. I spent only $480 in maintainance to keep this car in excellent shape for two years.
I will drive this car into the ground
Car was bought used with 28000. Took out an extra warranty which took care of all the quirks in the beginning. Other than normal maintenance, this car is the best car we have ever owned. Love driving it. The pickup is great.
Why i love this car....
i love my diamante it has just about everything i could ask for in a car, great performance, 0-60 in 5.7 secs powerful engine 270 hp 240 ft lbs, awesome grip on corners for a rwd car, nice braking ok mileage even though it could've bin better, over all this car is good for commuting daily and to take out to the tracks for weekend thrills
An Excellent Car Worth Considering!
An excellent car with a beautiful exterior and an interior with first-rate materials and a warm, luxurious look. Ample interior storage. As of four years and 29,000 miles, reliability has been excellent. The ride is very smooth and quiet and the seats are very comfortable. Handling is very competent. The car is fun to drive energetically. Acceleration is very strong and immediate with power at any speed and shifts that are always where they should be. I get 20 MPG in town and 29 MPG on the highway. The stereo is first-rate, with very good imaging and sound quality. You should test drive a Diamante before buying any luxury car. You will be amazed at how good it is.
Sharp looking, great performance
I got my 2000 LS in 2003 to replace the 1993 Grand Am that my parents gave me as a first car. For the first two years that I owned it I drove the socks off the thing but it easily took the abuse of a 17 year old guy and his friends. Once I got into college I took more interest in the car since I knew I needed a car that would last me into the beginning of my career. With a nice wash and wax, this car gets me compliments everywhere I go. Take care of this car and it will take care of you. On the highway I find the acceleration to be amazing between 60-80 and I can hang with most Euro cars and blow the socks off the other JP cars. Only prob is at 60,000 mi it's going to be $1100+ service
Great Car for the money
Love the car but hate to see it losing value. OEM parts are ridiculously expensive and aftermarkets are hard to come by. Gas mileage is not all that great (20- 22 MPG) and heater core problem is starting to surface. I would recommend this car if you can find an exceptional deal .
Low-Cost Luxury!
I simply love this car! This car has a powerful take off. Horsepower is great! I have three kids, 16, 10, and 7-we all fit comfortably in this mid-size sedan. The look of the car is really sleek and regal and it beats the high price cost of gas that accompanies larger SUV's. Surprisingly, this car now has 160,000 miles-and still runs great. However, I do make it a habit to keep my oil changed.
The best sedan....
Most people when they're looking for sedans and cool cars people just look for Honda Civics, Subaru, etc. and undoubtedly those are cool cars, but my car, a 1999 Mitsubishi Diamante, beats all of them. Little Story (You can skip it, the review is at the bottom): When I was 10, my dad's car, Diamante, began fading in the background as he began driving a different car. I loved that car so much and when my dad said he was going to sell it I knew I couldn't let that happen. I would sit in that car and listen to music almost every day imagining the day I could start it and put the gear into drive. So eventually I became impatient and I took the keys just so I could see how it starts and sounds. It did not start. I was so set on making sure that car worked, I began building my knowledge of cars and eventually grabbed my dad's tools and started working on it. I took the entire transmission out, as well as other components which had no correlation with the real issue of why it wouldn't start. Which ended up being the fuel pump, and the battery was getting weak. I was so excited to have found the issue and the reason. I searched for the fuel pump and battery compatible with the car and found both of them at Oreilly. The only problem was that I had no ride because I was working on this car with no permission and I couldn't drive myself. Since I was so excited, I decided to walk 4.5 miles to my nearest Oreilly with the $175 I had saved up. Bought the stuff and walked home, a car battery and fuel pump in hand. Once I arrived at home I installed everything in about 15 minutes. As soon as I heard the stall I got so mad. I breathed in and out as I turned the key in the ignition with everything I had, mind and soul. It started...I screamed so loud in joy it scared my dogs. Now 10 years later this car has been running incredibly without having to take it to an auto shop. Not only was this the car that started my career, it is the best sedan. Review: This sedan is incredible. It is so fast and sporty and honestly pretty good on gas for a v6. I know speed isn't the main thing people look for in cars but believe me, this thing can win some races on stock. This car beat my dad's Mercedes R350, my mom's BMW X1, (which is a twin-turbo), and my sister's Volkswagen CC sport. I'm not entirely sure if it's just because i'm a better driver or the car is really that much stronger and faster, but I completely gapped my friend's Hemi Charger on the track. This car is the best first car for only $768-2800, and just an overall incredible car

Almost Perfection
An amazing car, all around. I actually bought this because i loved my '93 diamante so much. interior quality + performance is top notch. only problem is that it can be slightly non-responsive from a stop (not a big deal). Exterior is sleek;the first time i saw it i was reminded of a BMW. B+/A- in my book. wish they still made these.
Under appreciated
If you are looking for a great sedan that has all the quality and gadgets of a car selling for $10,000 more than you have selected the right one. This is my second Diamante, the first went for well over 100,000 miles with no problems at all.
Poor Man's BMW
How many times have you bought a car that was better than expected? Rides nicely with srong powertrain & performance. Few cars come close to BMW but the Diamante comes close when you consider the price.
Nice but not reliable
This car has been fun the first 15K miles, but it has been in the shop for 19 different problems, and after the warranty expired the costs of keeping it are very high. In the last few months I spent about $500/mo on repairs and some maintenance. As much as I like my Mitsu, I am ready to trade it in for a new car. It is a shame, because the car has only 50K miles and looks great. I maintained it well, did all the required services, but I can keep up with the costs of repairs. The biggest problems I have: ABS breaks, AC system, suspension. I had three Mitsubishis since 1989 and had my share of problems but this time I am sure that this is my last Mitsu.
Nice Car
Overall good experience. Dealers have been exceptional. Some problem with the leather seats but easily fixed. Nice ride. Comfortable and handles great. Would get another. Loses resale value quickly.
Excellent given the price
This car has been a joy to ride and own. Some small mechanical issues, but nothing substantial. Interior is well appointed and comfortable. Exterior is good looking, but pearl colored paint is very soft. Have several chips taken out of bumper paint from highway bugs. Could have a few extra horsepower (215 is low for this class). Car seems to eat tires.
Solid car
This has been an excellent, near luxury car. I was worried about Mitsubishi's quality control, but not about this car. No problems at first or later. It has been a solid, well built and reliable car. I wish there were some other near luxury touches on this car. Dual sun visors. Low fluid warnings. Would like to see date and time on the clock. This car has been mistaken for BMW 5- series and Lincoln LS. The 2003+ cars look horrendous. DLD
Great comfort and reliability
This car has been used everyday and we have never had a problem with it, other than having to replace a part of the air conditioning. The ride is great and the comfort of the seats are the best I have had. It has great acceleration and power. The sound is great. I was in one accident and the car held-up great.
Great Car
I have enjoyed my vehicle over the past 5 years. The resale and trade-in are really low though compared to other cars like it.
Diamante is quality
I love the comfort and style of the Diamante. I bought a 93 the first time and traded it for a 99. The 93 was better, but still, I have 34,000+ miles at this point and never a service call. The one thing I have doubts about is the comparison of Diamante to Galant. They look the same, just a slight size difference. It bugs me that mine cost twice as much. I might go for the Galant next time. But people very often ask me about this car, even at 3 1/2 years old, because it looks so good! Recently discovered the resale value is much lower than expected, though. Buy one and keep it!!
Used Deal of the Decade!!
Did i get a deal or what?? For $10,300 i got a car that i could have paid $15,000('99 with 62,000 miles) and still been happy! The exterior shape is one of the best out there, very muscular! The interior is almost as good. The diamante is beginning to sell fast, i tried to purchase 2 others but they were sold on their first few days; which means their prices will go up soon... hurry!!
2000 Mitsubishi
The transmission shifts hard in this car. The rear seats have no room for comfort.
Great Car
Great car for the money!!!
Not so bad, no value
Runs well, lots of power. Lots of road noise however. I went to trade this for another Mitsubishi. No deal with financing work that much loss of value $26,000 car new and was only offered $9,000 in trade. No resale value, dealer was rude. (Not the original dealer) Other than being noisy, the car is a running dude. My transmission works well, don't know what others have experienced but mine is not a problem.
Diamante from California
Wow ... we lost our shirts buying it new even with the huge rebate and great financing. Looking to trade with only 50,000 miles and it's worth nothing close to what we would have expected. Paid close to 30k and now it's worth 9k??? Not a winner in my book. I like the car but money is money. We won't buy another Mitsubishi for sure.
Hasn't Let Me Down Yet
My 2000 Mitsubishi Diamante has been extremely reliable and fun to drive. I've always liked the styling of the Diamantes, and you get a really nice car for a reasonable price. The only disadvantages I've observed are their poor resale value, and some components could be of higher quality. For example, I was told at 38,000 miles that my struts were going to need to be replaced soon. (However, I haven't replaced them, and it still rides fine.) The other quality issues were more cosmetic in nature, like a trim piece that peeled.
Great looking / performing car for the price
I purchased my 2000 Mitsubishi Diamante last August for two main reasons, its price and features. I couldn't find a similarly equipped toyota Camry or Honda Accord for my $9,500 budget. A few months later, the heater core O-ring failed and coolant started leaking into the vent system. The fix was costly, about $1,100 but the car has been running without a problem since. The Diamante has lots of power under the hood, the acceleration is good but the transmission gets confused sometimes i.e. downshift may not happen immediately when you need a quick boast. The interior is quiet and its ride quality is somewhere between good and excellent. The Diamante is clearly more biased towards comfort and doesn't handle as well as my previous Mazda Millenia
Fun, Luxury Car
I bought this car new in 2000 for my wife. I love to drive it, and do at every opportunity! The only problem has been excessive road noise. We've had the tires replaced (30,000 miles), but it didn't help. This is a champagne car on a beer budget. Given the choice, I would buy the Diamante LS again.
good bang for buck
only had it a couple of weeks but very satisfied with my purchase. only problem is a few paint chips. has power and comfort plus other high end options for a low end price. only paid 14000. looks like i paid 18-20k. at least.
Great Car for the Price
I've had this car for almost 3 years, and I've really enjoyed driving it. It has good power and looks really nice. However, some components aren't durable enough - at 42,000 miles the struts are already going bad. Occasionally, it doesn't shift as nicely as I'd like. Plus, the rear window trim is peeling off, which looks bad. The resale value goes down quickly after you buy it new, so buy this if you want to keep it for awhile. But once you drive it, I bet you'll want to keep it for awhile.
first time owner
the information from edmunds was very helpful in desiding to buy the car although i have no intentions of keeeping it when i get it fixed up. it does ride and handle really good and has a lot of get up and go power when you just the throttle down

BEAUTIFUL INSIDE AND OUT
I recently bought a 2000 Diamanté, silver, LS package with 130,000 miles. All I can say is WOW! Bough it for 2000 dollars and is the best vehicle, dollar for dollar that I have ever owned. Luxurious but not gaudy. Incredibly comfortable interior with well laid out cockpit. The engine runs like a top, just check fluids and filters, and never lets me down. The big six has power to spare, and yet I average 22 mpg which is great for a car this old that weighs this much. Biggest trunk that I have ever seen, and always gets compliments. I must clarify that it’s a 1 owner car before me, but Mitsubishi built these right. If you can find one that has been well maintained? Buy it! You will not be sorry.
