I just wanted to send a testimony to my 1994 Diamante Wagon. I have driven it for the last five years with only routine maintenance. The 'ol girl has 265,000 miles on it, and I just replaced the timing belt...hoping to get to 300,000 and beyond. A joy to drive!

I got this car as a replacement to my Sebring conv. and it has been nothing but a joy to drive. Always starts first try no matter how cold it is or how long it has been sitting in the driveway. I have gotten thousands of safe and reliable miles out of this car despite it's nine yrs. old. This is a wonderful car that I would recommend to anyone looking for a dependable four door sedan.

Bought this car with 110,000 miles on it. As soon as I drove it I loved it. Great low end torque, smooth ride, lots of options. Very minor mechanical problems. I can't count anymore how many compliments I have gotten while going into a supermarket, or at a gas station about how nice of a car I have.

I don't know what kind of lemons these other bloggers bought, but I bought my '95 Diamante LS with 42,700 miles on it in 2003. It is stock and is white with a moonroof, leather interior, stock Infinity sound system, the stock tape deck has an audio in port that will work with iPods and has a 6 disc changer in the trunk - stock. An old man must've owned it because it was in pristine condition inside, outside, and mechanically speaking. It currently has 115,000 miles on it and runs like the day it came off the assembly line. No problems. Had to replace the alternator once ($80). POWERFUL, RELIABLE car. AND it looks awesome even still today in 2009 and turns ALL the girls' heads. Can't go wrong

I have had this car since I bought it new and it has prevented me from buying a new car for 9 years. It is a great car that has had very minimal problems-- front breaks, AC work and 2 batteries. I have a small oil leak now, but after 151000 miles, it is expected. Paint is in excellent shape and is very fun to drive. My wife thinks I am crazy because I want to keep it forever. gas mileage is 17 city and 24 highway.

Bought this car at a year old with 22K. In 13 years of ownership, it's had ONE unscheduled service--needed a new starter motor 2 years ago. Overall, this is the best car I've owned. It's totally reliable and has never failed to crank on the first try except for the day it needed that starter motor. Best car ever on the highway--safe and comfortable. I have nothing bad to say about my Diamante. It's a wonderful car. Too bad Mitsu didn't keep it up.

I bought this car at a dealer auction in 1999 with only 25,000 miles on it. I believe it came off a lease. I now have 145,000 and the only problem I ever had was the transmission going out at 96,000. I figure the car has paid for itself 3 times over even with the transmission replacement. Because it rides so nice and gets decent gas mileage, I intend on driving it until it gives up the ghost. The paint still looks new and yes it has nitpick items like a crappy cup holder but hey, I can live with those.

Diamante ES 1994 Honest Review

At first, when I got the car I was very happy to have it. Drives quiet and I felt very comfortable driving it. The car showed itself to be very slow and big like a boat. I didn't know what kind of engine is there so I researched and I find that the there is 3.0 V6 which produces 175hp. Too little for a car of this size. The ES has 3.0 v6 SOCH 12valve (2 valve per cylinder) 175hp. The car handles well except sharp turns; It drifts.

6 cylinder, SOHC. Excellent reliability, performance. Important to have qualified mechanics do the major maintenance, such as timing belt replacement. Premium tires make a big difference in quality of ride and handling. The only complaint I have had is the turning radius.

THE CAR IS SO MUCH FUN TO DRIVE. I REFER TO IT AS A POOR MAN'S BMW. IT HAS AN AGGRESSIVE GRILL. THE HANDLING IS A LITTLE LOOSE, BUT THE STEERING IS RESPONSIVE. THE CAR RESPONDS WELL TO ALL INPUTS. TRASMISSION SHIFTS ARE EXCELLENT. I WISH IT CAME WITH A MANUAL. THE ALUMINUM WHEELS ARE TOO SMALL FOR THE VEHICLE. IT SHOULD HAVE KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK MITSU!

Overall it's been a great car that hasn't let us down. Some weak point on the car is its oil consumption with age and the life of the brakes before they "wobble". Both items are known in the Diamante community and there are ways to combat them, but they are out there as issues. Otherwise, pretty good car for the price.

Bought car with 14K dealer demo miles and owned it through 100K. Love this car! very BMW-ish styling with great reliability. Upgraded to 16" alloy wheels and good tires -good move for handling and less brake fade/wobble. Door locks got a little funny(mind of their own)probably due to worn D.door switch. Highly recommend this car!

Apparently there are about 85 of these in the Bay Area (out of 5M cars...). This was the most comfortable wagon, with the best ergonomics, space, and setup. Extremely comfortable for me (6'5") and the whole family. The problem with this car: the engines just suck. At about 85,000 miles this car started developing all sorts of problems (leaks in the block, for example) and mechanics reported that this is not uncommon. Traded this car, sadly, for a Subaru.

Best car I ever owned until the warranty ran out... then, new steering assembly ($1500). Electrical problems out the wazoo. The coup de gras, engine blew due to defective cam shaft, and I change the oil every 2000 miles, like an idiot, and this car made feel like one. I spent another $1800 to fix the engine, but they couldn't put Humpty togather again. I sold it to my neighbor for $600 and begged him not to buy it. Now the his grass is growing around it. He thought he could fix it, but 1 year later it still sits. Mitsubishi, fool me once, shame on you.

I now have about 328,000 miles on this car and have had it since it was new. Besides normal maintenance (brakes, tires, filters, etc), I've only replaced a ball joint, alternator, engine manifold exhaust pipe, and fuel injectors. The engine and tranny are original and in great condition. There is no sign of them wearing out yet. I've gotten more than my money's worth out of this car. It still looks great with only very small spots of rust just developing on the front fenders just behind the wheels. The cloth interior also still looks great with no signs of wear. I've never had a car like this before.

Who knew this would end up being my all-time favorite car, beating out two Mercedes and an Audi? Not even me. My Diamante ES has been totally reliable, only seeing the inside of the shop for 30,000 mile scheduled maintenance except for a new idle motor a year ago. I never get tired of driving it. The engine started the known valve seal problem after 80,000 miles but I just keep the oil level up, occasionally add a bottle of Lucas. Its handling is great for this class car, esp with latest tires, Kumho Solus KH18s. I bought an Accord two years ago thinking Molly would need to retire after ten years. She sat ignored until I sold the Honda, realizing I didn't like it as much and didn't need it!

I have never had so much mechanical trouble with a car like I have had with the Mitsubishi. This car has given me so much heartache and expense. I have taken good care of it but the motor, transmission, and compressor still went out!!! And yes, the warranty just ended at 75,000..But I kept driving it because it was paid for, but it has had it's time in the shops!! My brother got him Mits. and had the same trouble and turned it in within a year. I will NEVER buy a Mits. again. AND I have told very many people about the bad experiences that I have had. I do not want anyone to go thru what I went thru with the expense in repairs.

94 Diamante ES Sedan - Atlanta

The car was purchased as a program car 12 months old with 20k. The car chews up brakes and needs to be re-padded ever 30-35k. Other than that there have been no problems in nearly 140k miles. The engine runs at a high temp (normal) and as such you need to change the oil religiously to prevent a buildup. This is an exceptionally engineered car. we ar beginning to get a nominal hesitation in shifting out of first gear when cold (138.5k miles). Not significant. We got 65k miles out of our first two sets of tires. Both changes were done not because we were low on tred, but for an opportunistic sale at Pepboys. We could have gone another 10k+ both times.

I bought the car with 70,000 miles and had heard it would last into the 200,000's. But I'm at 126,000 and I have had smoke out the back for awhile now. I have to either put in a new engine ($3000+) or get a new car. I did love it while it was good. It was definitely a gem of its time!

I really miss my Monte, it was beautiful and I could sleep in it! But it kept messing up consistently. In the 2 years it was running I spent over $5,000. It was smoking out the back, oil was leaking (even after i had it 'fixed'), it ATE gas (filled it about 3 times a week), AC gave out (brand new compressor), the radio needed to have some code put in by a dealership to be turned on. I entered the wrong one twice and had to pay 300 to get some idiotic numbers. Finally while driving down I-95 at Okachobee it started to sputter and never accelerated again. Almost killed me and my friend. Basically it was lovely on the outside, but not built well and cost way too much money to fix anything.

I've had this car for almost 2 years now and it was my first car I got when I got my learners. This is a perfect starter car for any new driver, super easy to learn on. I got the car with about 123,000 miles on it and right now it has about 135,000. It the past 2 years the only serious problem I've had was I had to replace the water pump which turned out to be really expensive. The ac just recently stopped working and I'm not really sure why. I've read the other reviews and I'm hoping I'm not having the same problems as some. When I get to a certain speed the car shakes and I have to let off the gas. Overall this was a great car but its almost time for a change.

Not Recommended. Had problems with the Air conditioner after only 65,000 miles – cost $1,500 to replace; Had problems with the automatic climate control system at 70,000 miles – cost $800 to repair; Had problems with door/window fit – car had a whistling sound at various speeds; Various plastic components in the interior (such as cup holder) are of low quality and break easy and are expensive to replace;

The anti-lock brake light would come on when I drove on the highway. Dealer couldn't figure it out...eventually I took it in for a tune up and the dealer told me my whole ABS brake system was shot and it would cost over $4,000 to fix it! I was sick when I had to sell the car for junk...with only 130,000 miles on it...not good for a car these days.

This is the best car I've ever owned. I traded this car in for a top of the line SUV. The biggest mistake of my life! I have grieved this car everyday since. Mileage to fuel was great, twenty dollars rode all week. I am currently in the market for a duplicate to keep 4ever. Wish I had researched prior to trading, would still have my Mitsubishi D. The cars have gone downhill since 95.

This is my second Diamante. I leased one in 1992 and hated to turn it in. Then I bought this one new in 1995. I have about 140,000 miles on it and only have had minor repairs other than the norm. This car looks great. I will not sell it, but use it as a second car or give it to a college student. What a wonderful car it has been. My interior looks bad now but I will invest in reuphostery, the car is surely worth it!

For a used vehicle, the Mitsu Diamante Wagon is a wonderful touring car that just makes you want to take road trips. It's solid, comfortable, good gas mileage (28-30 mpg on the highway and that's driving at 75 mph) and roomy. Great stereo system, too. With the Goodrich Traction Control Tires, you won't find a better car to take on your next vacation.

I am debating whether to sell or not. The car looks great and runs like a quiet lexus, but my a/c went and i am told i need a new compressor and maybe a condenser by the dealer. Since it is a 95 i am tempted to sell it and buy a new car. The car runs like new and it is dealer maintained. They always do such a great job that i dont mind overpaying a little. The dealer tels me that if i fix the a/c that i will be goood for a long time, but how can i trust them? They say that the 95 was the best Diamante ever built. What would you do?

I bought my 1995 Mitsubishi Diamante at auction with 122,000 miles on it. I drove it untill 137,000 miles. It was an excellent car. I regret the day that I traded comfort for fuel eficiency. The Diamante was fun to drive, fast, and never had any problems. It did brake a lug nut when the Les Schwab guys replaced its front tires. I drove it with overdive on since it would not shift gears if overdrive was off. It would go 210 miles per tank. I drove it for a 1.5 years like that.

I LOVE THIS CAR! It has all the amenities of a luxury car. I am thinking about buying another one for my brother or just to have two (THEY ARE REALLY CHEAP IF OLDER THAN 1995!). Rumor has it the Diamante will be discontinued in a couple of years unfortunately. While I love the car and view it as VERY RELIABLE, I have had a few problems: REPLACED: Water Pump ($700) CV Shaft ($180) Alternator(rebuilt on ebay $175, putting it in myself). AC compressor squeals like hell, haven't fixed yet ($???). BROKE OFF FOUR OR FIVE LUG BOLTS CHANGING TIRES, (don't know why).
