Great & pricey mid size SUV

I've owned (leased) the ML for a few months now. I turned in a GL which is a full size SUV. What I like: The ML has a great ride and very easy steering. For those who like a tight steering wheel, buy a BMW. This ML is very easy to drive. I also upgraded to the Harmon Kardon stereo and it is worth the money - crisp and clear with a nice mid range. The ride of the ML is very comfortable. Again, if you like a sporty ride, look else where. I appreciate the comfortable ride, comfortable seats and quietness in the cabin. In addition, the quality of the materials in the cabin are what you would expect from Mercedes Benz. What's not to like: The exterior styling and price.

Extremely pleased I chose ML350 over BMW's X5

The safety features on this car are fantastic. It aces the NHIS safety tests and scored Top Pick in safety, which is one of the main reasons I even looked at the Mercedes brand (which I had otherwise always associated with an older generation). I'm glad I looked though! I was very close to buying a 2013 X5 (last in that generation/platform; 2014 model is noted on review sites as having lots of electrical issues), but heard from a MB-owning friend that he's come to like his ML above the more expensive BMW he also drives (which, he admits, is a more fun driving experience). So I looked at MBs.... first the GL (too big for us), then the ML350 (certified pre-owned from dealer, 2013 bluetec model) . Felt that the gas version lacked torque, felt a little sluggish. So I was *about* to go back to the BMW dealer when MB dealer suggested I test drive the diesel. Wow. WOW! The car grips and feels like you've strapped a booster rocket to your back as it accelerates. As they say, "you read about horsepower, but you feel torque." And, MPG is much better... Ok, back to safety: aside from pre-safe and some of the other standard safety features one would expect from a luxury SUV, I have the driver assistance package on mine which is excellent. Blindspot, for example, doesn't just light up a triangle on the mirror like the Volvo XC90 does, the car notices if you're planning on moving over and if there is someone still in your blindspot an audible alert beeps at you. It's like having a co-pilot drive with you. It also has lane-keeping assist, drowsiness detect, etc etc. Being new to the MB family I find new things every day that the dealer didn't even tell me about that I've come to love ... for example, I have keyless entry which also lets me close window and pano (and lock doors) by touching a special spot on the handle; no need to start the car back up to close forgotten windows! My only complaint is the COMAND system. It's ok, but certainly not great. The new X5 screen (or the new GLEs for that matter) is *much* better. Nav works fine but I still find I just use my iphone & google maps to get me to where I need to go (to be honest, I did that in the '16 model X5s I rented as well...). Overall I couldn't be more satisfied with this vehicle. Highly recommended as a safe, comfortable SUV that feels like it can take you up a snowy mountain on a winding dirt road, cruises great on highway, and looks good while doing it.

Great Car to own / drive. Scheduled Service Costly

ll and all very satisfied with exception of maintenance cost. When you go to a Mercedes Benz dealer be prepared to sacrifice a Kidney. The charges are out rages. You pay several hundreds of dollars for service like a oil / filter change. Compared to a regular car you get the feeling Mercedes is bending you over because you are driving a Mercedes. Other than the service rip off I feel this is a great vehicle and would buy the newer model when I trade in.

Making Friends with a Mercedes Benz

Know that the regular maintenance for this car requires more frequent check-ups than most other comparable SUV's and that it will be more expensive, too. A used Chevrolet Equinox (AWD 3.5L) was an early choice but I could not find a used one in Southern California in the color I like. Along came this MB at a local Toyota dealership (at the time, I was checking a Honda Pilot and a Toyota Highlander - both used), and, after an impressive test drive, I chose luxury and safety. So, to be honest, the purchase was as much serendipitous as it was carefully researched and goal-driven. Such is life. Having driven the same Toyota Land Cruiser for over 20 years, I was initially overwhelmed by the new technology of the MB, but am growing to appreciate, for example, the added safety of multiple sensors. Those and the simultaneous gas mileage read-out have already made me a better, smarter driver. Early days, but I'm pleased with my purchase.

2013 Blue Tec engine issues

Great driving, instruments ergonomics and logically fits to me 100%. Was so happy with 27.3 miles/gallon in city. Get over 630 miles on highway easy.Have 63990 miles on. Service expensive but they change everything every time I went, so I hoped it would run forever with always new parts placed in. Rear break burned out; due to excellent engineering I replaced it myself in 15 seconds, bulb costs $.99. But then diesel engine seems to be deal killer. Leaking oil, damaging intake, $2,500 for repair, need to take engine out. 3 months later engine light announced blue urea heater failure, $2,200. Just to read an error on dealer's computer, plug it in computer - like I just want to know whats wrong - $ 150. My friend has S model with same diesel engine and he needs repair and maintenance for $7,000. My impression is that ML bluetec is a great car with excellent ergonomics and logical instrumentation, shift on steering column I love. But seems too expensive to maintain. I paid over $61,000 for new one, cant even tow anything. Mercedes puts small cooling units and if you want to tow ,conversion cooling kit is $4,400. Diesel was made with torque to tow, right? I am disappointed in the "Best or nothing", as it doesn't last no matter how perfectly you maintain it. Maybe is just my diesel engine choice. This is my first and last Mercedes. Im not that rich to pay for luxury service and frequent repairs where cheapest one is 2Gs. I am sure Mercedes has received bad feedback about turbo-diesels overkilled with emission internal devices, but they definitively let us know and asked premium price for engine that is to fail and shot down anytime. 2/28/2019 Required repairs on emission control parts. Expensive. Plastics broke off glove box and sunroof. Scratched from parking in garage. Drives very solid and improved combined MPG to 29, it is a good SUV. 72000 miles. Im not committed to dealers appointments anymore. Changing oil every 5.000 miles. Thats it. Will drive as long as it will let me.

2013 ML350 Bluetec NO2 problems/AdBlue problems

This is my 2nd ML350. Few years ago, I did own a 2014 ML350 regular gas for little over a year. Even though, during the time of my ownership and under warranty, I've visited MB dealership a little too often for problems which should not have existed with less than 40k miles. After having enough of it back then, I got rid of it. I guess I must have forgotten about the painful experienced from few years ago. I bought a 2013 Bluetec about six months ago with about 72k miles on it hoping for the durability of diesel engine and efficiency. Pros: although lacking performance, the ML is built like a tank. The ride is nice and no gaps in the rear when you fold the seat down. This was the selling point primarily for me because I have my best friend (Cocker Spaniel) commuting to work with me daily. The ride is solid and comfortable. The bad: after six months of ownership, I've gone thru repairs with the DEF system. Cost of repair was about $1900. Last week, check engine light came on. After scanning the computer, it looks like i'll need to replace 2 NO2 sensors. The parts along is about $500-$600 each X 2. Excluding labor. In addition to that, the count down to AdBlue have not reset after putting about 3 gallons of the special fluid. Now there is a potential replacement of coil or tank that may need to be replaced and will have to leave the car for few days at the shop. I've already scheduled an appointment with the "stealer" for next week. However, the fear of stealer is driving me to go with other private specialist shops. After speaking with few shop owners and most would not touch the diesels due to complex hardware and software problems. Therefore, I am regretting of getting back into my second MB. I've read many "nice" reviews in the past thus I thought the diesel would have been better than the regular gas and bought this one. In hind sight, i wish i would have checked with the MB mechanics for their opinions first. My suggestion for you and myself in future is to exercise additional caution and check with the people that knows instead of "unknown source" of the reviews. MB makes very nice cars for sure for the mid to high end models. They are nice to look at but DO NOT take it home!

Should any vehicle with 46K mi's on the odometer require a $4,500 repair bill for engine failure? I think not. Just 4 mo's out of new car warranty the engine had an internal oil leak that took out the engine control module, wiring harness and multiple sensors. This kind of failure shouldn't happen with any car with only 46K mi's on the odometer. Mercedes Benz offer zero remediation and only showed me the way out the door and pointed me to the Lexus dealership. Where they will build me a car worthy of my money. For those who are still enticed by driving a Mercedes Benz, as I once was... here's a tip... as a Mercedes Salesperson once told me... "You NEVER BUY a Mercedes Benz, you LEASE them!" That way you are covered by the factory warranty while on your lease, that's if its a 3yr lease or less.

302hp is Enough!

Unless you're planning on running from John Law, 302hp is more than enough. In fact, I think it's a sweet spot. It has plenty of "get up and go" and yet it also has plenty of passing power. At first the seats feel a little hard, but, after 9 hours of traveling, they feel just fine. They are the best "all day" automobile seats that I have ever used. I love ML350's. We also have a 2012 ML350 BlueTEC. Great highway travel car.

Some of the best SUV handling, driving and ride I agree instruments ergonomics and logically fit me as well. ML Bluetec is a great SUV with excellent ergonomics. Still a head turner as well. I also average 27.5 – 28.8mpg in mixed city and interstate driving, with an average lead foot (+75mpg) I have experienced with average Hwy driving 32.5mpg. This vehicle has 147,850 miles on it. I have most of my in-depth service completed at a local shop and do the minor service myself. Easy do it yourselfer unit for Oil, fuel filter, air filter and cabin filter changes. The local service manager liked the ML so much he is in the market for the same unit. Tons of DYI videos on You Tube. I have experienced the Leaking of oil (Oil Cool gaskets) and if your tearing down the top part of the engine perform a Turbo intake cleaning (Welcome to turbo diesels ~Any manufacturer). This is my 4th MB but 1st ML. Looking forward to the +250K milestone. Quick Update: I currently have 210,000 miles on the odometer and still going strong. I'm very pleased with the performance and reliability of this vehicle. I just dread having to replace this vehicle in the next couple of years. No mechanical or electrical issues at all. Still drives like new.

Driven approx 10,000 miles - half highway /mountainous terrain. It started with buying my wife a 2012 MB E350 a year ago. Was very impressed so I tested the 2013 ML550. I sold my "big" truck suv and bought one ML550 full load. twin turbo, small V8 power/low fuel consumption ratio, comparatively speaking, has me sold. WOW ... does this thing move, smooth ride, quiet and has nearly 100 ft/lbs torque more that the larger 6.2L easy to pull my trailer with toys. Built in anti sway works. My ML fully loaded is equal in cost to a 2013 Escalade.

My Mercedes Benz ML-350 continues to be as trustworthy and fun to drive as it was when I wrote my original review. Since my last review, I decided to become an Uber driver in the metropolitan area just northwest of my hometown. It's an 81-mile commute one way, but Benz is so reliable and such a joy to drive that I hardly realize time and distance. Of course, most of my passengers are amazed by the quiet cabin, smooth ride, and handling of my pre-owned certified Mercedes-Benz. Many of the riders range from 20-somethings to middle-aged professionals. Most of these passengers leave my car with a smile and write positive comments about their experience on their Uber apps. Since September 2017, I have logged more 200 five-rated trips. Oh, the stories we could tell from our rides across Central Ohio plains. Needless to say, I would've have done it with my starship.

I purchased this vehicle used in 2015 and have put 60,000 miles on it since. The diesel engine is the best engine I've ever owned for an SUV. It has great acceleration, gets 27 mpg and will tow anything. The two objections are that it's expensive to maintain and the rear suspension is noisy.

An everyday vehicle for accomplishing everyday tasks. If you decide to head out long distance, this vehicle will not wear you out for a 400 or 500 mile-a-day drive. Reliability is better than average compared to the other 100+ vehicles I have owned. The 405 HP engine is enough to keep you out of trouble or pull an RV trailer of some sort behind if you so desire. Also very generous leg room for rear passengers. Living in snow country in Idaho during the winter, this vehicle virtually can go anywhere in snow. It is an “E” Class in an SUV.

Owned and driven a ML-550 for 4 years / 75000 Smooth ride on the highway. Sound level is acceptable. Expect to do repairs...truck hatch 2 times, titl steering, side window, drivers seat controls, night vision, cooling system hose, MB has quirky system deficiencies and erroneous caveats, including the remote garage door control, outside air intake to cab located on front engine hood will block easily from leaves or snow, bad odour will result must leave AC on all times, if your MB is damaged in an accident accelerated depreciation occurs like no other, This SUV is very heavy and reminds me of 1970 Oldsmobile where the weight does not match up to the braking and suspension system properly and the vehicle would sway and rock while maneuvering. Have asked MB to change the software controlling the transmission shifts to reduce the chunky down shifts that cause passengers to fall forwards in their seats. Acceleration is great. (405HP) Sport mode simply increase the idle and rpm for quicker responses to accelration. Turbo lags in normal drive and causes the vehicle to stall during quick turn arounds such as a u turn. Do not trust the vehicles sensory system to brake when in bumper to bumper traffic. Has no glass breaking sensor included with security so any thief can steal all your contents including spare key fob in glove box. Key fob comes from Munich so you pay $500 to replace..ya ya. Carry windshield glass insurance as these cost over 3k to replace. Frequency and Cost of repairs are often and very high so DO NOT OWN A MERCEDES WITHOUT WARRANTY or you will be nickeled and dimed - allow $5000/year to operate this vehicle over 6 years. MB only offers a factory 60000 kms warranty! Brake job at 30000 kms cost $3200. Tires are also 2500 at 50000kms... I beleive Mercedes is now a seriously over rated auto manufacturer. Going back to luxury GM products with 6 year 100000 warranty and $100 key fobs and $1000 brake jobs.. if your ego allows do the right thing and dont buy a Mercedes. $$$$$ in CAD.

I bought ML350 with Navigation system. My wife drives it. I spent some time to get familiar with its navigation system. It looks like the Navigation system is poorly designed, no touch screen and typing in address takes a long time, sucks ! (compared with 2005 Toyota Camry V6 XLE's navigation, Google's navigation, and my portable one, 2013 ML350 is the worst). Sure, it gots voice command control, but it is not as easy as inputing addresses, which is what I expected about vioce control.

I've been dealing with my friends ML350 Bluetec.(Single mom of 4 children) I feel obligated to inform anyone who's interested in buying one of these pieces of junk to spend the money on psychiatric visits to help you lose these perverted thoughts of owning one of these..I cant speak for any other MB model but this one, its the only one I've had the unfortunate experience to be involved with. These engines are junk, you'll get 80-90.000 of wonderful miles before the heartache starts, then unless you are a wallstreet banker you wont be able to afford this engine. The emissions controls will absolutely break you. Most of the time the MB dealer will suggest a new engine because they know its a losing battle to try to keep repairing these things to keep them on the road. DO NOT FALL FOR THEIR SUPERIOR ENGINEERING BS! I'll sum it up simply, look in the owners manual for their oil specifications on this engine. ITS NOT EVEN RECOMMENDED FOR DIESEL ENGINES! it was chosen solely for the purpose of increasing fuel mileage, which in theory it will do.The whole time you are using this oil it is clogging up the inside of the engine with CATASTROPHIC effects! Its the beginning of the end from the day that vehicle rolls out of the showroom. I could go on and on with technical information that would blow your mind. I thought I'd limit the mechanic speak to something everyone could understand..... oil changes. There's so much more wrong with the engineering on these diesel engines, we simply don't have the time nor space to list them all. BUY ONE OF THESE SUVs AT YOUR OWN PERIL, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED. If by chance you unwittingly bought one of these (as my friend did) and its not reached the mileage the trouble begins at 80-90,000 miles. Sell it trade it get rid off it even if you have to take a substantial loss on it.Don't think yours will be the exception, you're only kidding yourself. BTW this survey had the lowest limit of one star, this car deserves ZERO stars!!

My wife and I traded a 2008 E350 for a 2011 RX450h when our first child came along for the ease of getting a carseat and a stroller in and out. I had assumed that the Lexus was going to have the same solid feel as a Mercedes-Benz due to it's very high regard within the auto industry. While the Lexus is a fine auto, there is no substitute (in this price range) for the solid build quality and the road holding ability of a Mercedes. Before I got out of the dealer's lot, I could feel the difference with the ML. This vehicle just feels so much more substantial than the Lexus in every way. When paying $50k+, I want to feel the vehicle is built like a tank, with the ML that's what you get

The M350 is a solid car. It is a base 2wd model, but can pull my 17 ft center console boat with ease. The computer is nice, but it costs <$150 whenever you want to update the navigation maps. Nice trim and comfortable seats.

I am a car guy and have owned many vehicles over the years. So, I believe I am qualified to say that my 2013 ML350 Bluetec has the best engine/transmission I’ve ever experienced in an SUV. We travel to Colorado often. My Bluetec travels up and down mountains without a single downshift! Loads of torque! And, I have logged as high as 33 mpg in highway travel; it routinely produces 26 mpg in city driving. To top it off, the cabin is whisper quiet at highway speed. Great car!

I’ve owned MBZ all my life and people that can’t afford them or can’t part with a few $’s sure like to gripe. I bought a lease-return 2013 ML550 designo with 56000 miles for $21500. ($82k new). Four years later NOT ONE mechanical failure except a loose coolant clamp on the lower hose ($32.50). These are wonderful, beautifully built, smooth very fast SUV’s. If you don’t see the diff with a RAV4 then save us the griping, save yourself a few mizzerable $’s and check back in 10 years with how El Cheapo has held up. Yes, Virginia, there IS a difference.

Well-built, still looks new, safe & secure 4Matic

We bought our 2013 ML350 BTC new - it has been a wonderful car. Most harrowing drive of my life was driving through a Wyoming ice & snow storm. Equipped with 4Matic & Michelin snow-rated winter tires … we had 0 problems, while others were in trouble. The turbo diesel has more torque than an ML550, yet provides 22 city/31 hwy mileage. We bought an extended factory warranty, followed with an extended Principal after market warranty, once that had expired. When there has been any repairs needed, they came at no cost to us, making the ownership experience more positive than if paying out of pocket. That said, still may be $ ahead not buying it he warranty.

I purchased my 2013 ML350 from a dealership out in Texas as a one owner vehicle at 113k miles. I’ve driven the car up to 118k miles because of my near hour commute to work every day and my thoughts are as such. First the good things: more than adequate power for merging onto the highway and passing traffic, comfortable supportive seats, quieter cabin than rivals, fantastic tech for the year, command is snappy and easy to use, and more space than a majority of its rivals. Now for the cons and really there aren’t that many: Even though the car is super quiet in the interior, you do have a fairly rough ride if you don’t equip the car with the optional air suspension although the standard springs will save you money in repairs in the long run, and factory halogen headlights leave a lot to be desired but thankfully plenty of aftermarket kits to convert to led. Maintenance will be more expensive just a tad bit than a regular car but that’s par for the course with any German luxury vehicle. However there’s an advantage it has over its German counterparts and this thing will last significantly longer than its BMW and Audi rivals. (No shade for those cars because they are still each in a class of their own just like the Benz) Also consider that if you’re purchasing this for one of your teenage drivers at home, that this car was an IIHS Top Safety Pick for it’s year. Maybe just short of Volvo or evenly matched depending on who you ask. If you’ve got $10k-$20k to play with on your next car purchase, don’t go with a new cheap Nissan or Mitsubishi crossover just because it has a warranty. Buy this. It will last longer with care and will be a significantly more beautiful car and comfortable option.

Mercedes Benz is all about leaking. I have fixed Coolant leaking, Engine Oil leaking. even regular maintenance is so expensive. if you are not rich family, you should keep away from MB brand.
